"This is the story of an action-research project. Such research is planned to help in the solving of an immediate and practical problem, as well as to advance basic scientific knowledge. This book is also a study in problems of communication. Working together effectively, as all kinds of groups of people must do, requires successful intercommunication of information, understandings, attitudes, and feelings. When any part of this necessary communication breaks down, difficulties multiply. It is really surprising how little people feel free to communicate with others. To a large extent, as Chapter 1 will indicate, we try to do what we think other people expect us to do. But if each individual or group has an incorrect perception of what the other individual or group expects of him, his action, no matter how well performed, will not be the right action. Poor communication is at the heart of many human relations problems. The age-old problem of school and community relationships and of teacher and student relationships is a part of the story of this study. The methods by which these relationships were examined through action-research, using a human relations survey, have many important implications, not only for education, but also for other areas where human relations problems appear. The action-research project reported here, stripped of its sometimes strange vocabulary and percentage tables, is a simple story in an area familiar to all of us. Teachers, parents, and children were having the usual trouble with each other, just as many other different groups which must work together. The problem might easily have been between teacher and supervisor, or supervisor and administrator. In this case the persons involved were professionally alert, and took up these problems in an in-service training program for teachers"--Foreword. Interpersonal Relationships In Education From Theory To Practice written by David Zandvliet and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-08-07 with Education categories.

This book brings together recent research on interpersonal relationships in education from a variety of perspectives including research from Europe, North America and Australia. The work clearly demonstrates that positive teacher-student relationships can contribute to student learning in classrooms of various types. Productive learning environments are characterized by supportive and warm interactions throughout the class: teacher-student and student-student. Similarly, at the school level, teacher learning thrives when there are positive and mentoring interrelationships among professional colleagues. Work on this book began with a series of formative presentations at the second International Conference on Interpersonal Relationships in Education (ICIRE 2012) held in Vancouver, Canada, an event that included among others, keynote addresses by David Berliner, Andrew Martin and Mieke Brekelmans. Further collaboration and peer review by the editorial team resulted in the collection of original research that this book comprises. The volume (while eclectic) demonstrates how constructive learning environment relationships can be developed and sustained in a variety of settings. Chapter contributions come from a range of fields including educational and social psychology, teacher and school effectiveness research, communication and language studies, and a variety of related fields. Together, they cover the important influence of the relationships of teachers with individual students, relationships among peers, and the relationships between teachers and their professional colleagues.

Associations Between Parents And Students Perceptions Of The Quality Of Teacher Student Interactions In A New Zealand Primary School written by Dorcas Tamara Kayes and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012 with categories.

This thesis describes effective teaching and the associations between parental and student perception of teacher-student interactions in a New Zealand primary school. The Questionnaire on Teacher Interaction (QTI) has been used to identify the student perception of the teacher and a Parent Perception questionnaire (PPQ) has been used to gain the perceptions of the parents toward the teacher. This study is significant for a number of reasons. It is a first where the Questionnaire on Teacher Interaction (QTI) has been used in a New Zealand primary school to identify the interpersonal interactions of the classroom teacher. It will identify the students\U+2019\ perception of the interpersonal behaviour of their teachers. This will assist teachers in becoming more effective in teaching and learning. It will enable teachers to identify possible professional development opportunities through interventions to assist them in becoming more effective teachers and students more effective learners. It will also allow teachers to see themselves through the eyes of their students and it will provide honest feedback for the teacher on which to reflect. Also, it will provide the current parents\U+2019\ perceptions on the effectiveness of teachers and debate the impact this has had on parental perception of the school environment.
