Die Kommunikation online geht aber nicht wie in der massenmedialen Gesundheitskommunikation primär von Instituti-onen, Krankenkassen oder Unternehmen aus, die ein Interesse an der Kommunikation von Gesundheitsprävention und -förderung haben. Auf Ebene einer Laienkommunikation wenden sich Internetnutzer auf der Suche nach Unterstützung und Hilfe, zum Beispiel in einem Onlineforum, an andere Betroffene. Mit zunehmenden partizipativen Möglichkeiten tauschen sie Informationen, Erfahrungen und Empfehlungen untereinander aus. Das nahezu unbegrenzte Angebot sowie der zeit- und ortsunabhängige Zugriff auf Gesundheitsthemen subjektiven Interesses wurden erst durch das Internet ermöglicht. Die Zahl der Personen, die regelmäßig im Internet nach Gesundheitsinformationen suchen und sich dort mit anderen austauschen, steigt (Lausen, 2008, o.S.). Damit nimmt auch die Bedeutung interaktiver Onlineumgebungen zu. Onlineforen bieten großes Potential für den Aufbau interpersonaler Beziehungen und damit auch für soziale Beeinflussung durch den interaktiven Austausch. Mit der zunehmenden Bedeutung des Internets für die Gesundheitskommunikation kommen auch viele Fragen auf. Im Rahmen der empirischen Untersuchung dieser Arbeit stehen folgende Forschungsfragen im Zentrum: Wie funktioniert die interpersonale Kommunikation in Gesundheitsforen und welche Auswirkungen hat die Forenkommunikation auf die persönliche Gesundheitskompetenz und auf gesundheitliche Entscheidungen? Welche sozialen Einflussgrößen führen zu Umdenkprozessen, so dass Forenteilnehmer ihr Denken oder ihre Einstellungen zu Gesundheitsthemen ändern oder sogar ihr Verhalten umstellen? Die sozialen Faktoren, welche die individuellen Umdenkprozesse von Forenteilnehmern beeinflussen könnten, sind noch wenig erforscht. Die vorliegende Arbeit untersucht die Kommunikation in Gesundheitsforen, um soziale Einflussgrößen zu identifizieren, die in der interpersonalen Onlinekommunikation beeinflussend auf Umdenkprozesse im Gesundheitsverhalten wirken. Ziel ist es, das Phänomen des sozialen Einflusses mit seinen Bedingungen und Konsequenzen zu erfassen.

Im Idealfall wird durch intelligente Technik eine bessere und gesündere Lebensweise unterstützt, anstatt den Hang zur Bequemlichkeit zu fördern. Dass unsere Gesundheit, Bewegung und Ernährung auch durch die technischen Fortschritte und der daraus entstehenden Begeisterung profitieren kann, ist kein allzu ferner Gedanke. In Bezug auf Computerspiele ist es Entwicklern bereits gelungen, diese so zu konzipieren, dass sie durch körperliche Bewegung zu steuern sind und damit den Spaß an körperlicher Bewegung fördern. Die Begeisterung am Internet und dessen neuen Möglichkeiten, den sozialen Netzwerken und der ständigen Zugänglichkeit von Informationen und zahlreichen Unterhaltungsangeboten können und sollen zur Gesundheitsförderung weiterhin genutzt werden.

This book explores commodification processes of personal data and provides a critical framing of the ongoing debate of privacy in the Internet age, using the example of social media and referring to interviews with users. It advocates and expands upon two main theses: First, people’s privacy is structurally invaded in contemporary informational capitalism. Second, the best response to this problem is not accomplished by invoking the privacy framework as it stands, because it is itself part of the problematic nexus that it struggles against. Informational capitalism poses weighty problems for making the Internet a truly social medium, and aspiring to sustainable privacy simultaneously means to struggle against alienation and exploitation. In the last instance, this means opposing the capitalist form of association – online and offline.
