Experiencing racial marginalization in society and pressures for success in family, Asian American Christian young adults must negotiate being socially underpowered, culturally dissonant, and politically marginal. To avoid misunderstandings and conflicts within and without their communities, more often than not they hide their true thoughts and emotions and hesitate to engage in authentic conversations outside their very close-knit circle of friends. In addition, these young adults might not find their church or Christian fellowship to be a safe and hospitable place to openly struggle with all of these sorts of questions, all the while lacking adequate vocabulary or resources to organize their thoughts. This book responds to these spiritual-moral struggles of Asian American young people by theologically addressing the issues that most intimately and immediately affect Asian American youths' sense of identity--God, race, family, sex, gender, friendship, money, vocation, the model minority myth, and community-- uniquely and consistently from the contexts of Asian American young adult life. Its goal is to help young Asian Americans develop a healthy, balanced, organic sense of identity grounded in a fresh and deeper understanding of the Christian faith.

This book investigates the high prevalence of intimate partner violence (IPV) among African immigrants across the world, addressing unique cultural contexts, acculturative stress, and identity which shapes their experiences. The author examines how migration-related stress, cultural norms, and systemic challenges intersect to influence intimate partner violence dynamics uniquely within the African diaspora. The book utilizes three theoretical frameworks to investigate this question: Urie Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems theory; John Berry’s acculturation stress theory; and Kimberlé Crenshaw’s intersectionality theory. This book situates the experiences of this unique immigrant population in the literature on IPV. It also provides global context by situating African diaspora experiences within broader discussions of intimate partner violence across immigrant populations. The author highlights the resilience and coping mechanisms of African IPV survivors and offers culturally sensitive strategies for prevention and intervention pathways to empowerment and healing.

This volume examines the educational leadership of Black women in the U.S. as informed by their raced and gendered positionalities, experiences, perspectives, and most importantly, the intersection of these doubly marginalized identities in school and community contexts. While there are bodies of research literature on women in educational leadership, as well as the leadership development, philosophies, and approaches of Black or African American educational leaders, this issue interrogates the ways in which the Black woman’s socially constructed intersectional identity informs her leadership values, approach, and impact. As an act of self-invention, the volume simultaneously showcases the research and voices of Black women scholars – perspectives traditionally silenced in the leadership discourse generally, and educational leadership discourse specifically.
