Antibiotic Producing Stetomyces written by Stephen W. Queener and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1986-03-28 with Science categories.

The Bacteria: Volume IX: Antibiotic-Producing Streptomyces explores how Streptomyces, including actinomycetes, produce a variety of antibiotics such as aminocyclitols, ansamycins, macrolides, and tetracyclines. Topics covered range from physiology and fermentation to genetic recombination and chromosome mapping in Streptomyces, biomodification of antibiotics by Streptomyces, and biosynthesis of tylosin and erythromycin. The genome structure and evolution of Streptomyces are also discussed. This volume is comprised of 10 chapters and begins with a discussion on the taxonomy of Streptomyces based on morphology, physiological characteristics, the composition of cell constituents such as cell walls, and the presence of characteristic lipids, sugars, and quinones. The discussion then turns to the intraspecific and interspecific recombination in Streptomyces; pathways of DNA repair and mutagenesis in Streptomyces fradiae; strategies for isolation of improved Streptomyces mutants for antibiotic production; and derivation of DNA cloning vectors from Streptomyces phages. The biology and use of Streptomyces plasmids as cloning vectors are also described. The final chapter is devoted to major structural classes of antibiotics produced by Streptomyces, including anthracyclines and other quinones, ß-lactams, macrolides, nucleosides, peptides, polyenes, polyether antibiotics, and tetracyclines. This book will be of value to microbiologists, bacteriologists, biochemists, and biologists.

Actinomycetes In Biotechnology written by Bozzano G Luisa and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-02 with Science categories.

The actinomycetes are a group of bacteria well known as producers of antibiotics. With the advent of molecular biology they have become important to biotechnologists in the search for new antibiotics, vitamins, enzyme inhibitors, etc. They also play an important role in the biodegradation of wastes, and their wide (natural) distribution in soil, composts, water and elsewhere in the environment makes them important to the agricultural and waste industries. This research book presents a broad view of the current interest in actinomycetes, ranging from isolation/screening of actinomycetes, discovery of new antibiotics, a substantial contribution on genetic manipulation to actinomycetes in agriculture, forestry, and the threat of actinomycetes as pollutants in the environment. The chapters, which have been written by experts, are intended to provide a balanced view of the opportunities and problems in an expanding field of interest.

Genetic Engineering Of Microorganisms For Chemicals written by Alexander Hollaender and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-04-09 with Technology & Engineering categories.

The normal course of most biologically catalyzed processes is tightly regulated at the genetic and physiological levels. The regulatory mechanisms are diverse, sometimes redundant, and it is becoming increasingly apparent that, at the genetic level, the range of mechanisms may be limited only by the permutations and combina tions available. For each microbial cell, evolution appears to have resulted in maximized advantage to that cell, achieving regulatory balance. Genetic engineering encompasses our attempts to perturb the genetic regulation of a cell so that we may obtain desired other than normal outcomes, such as increased product formation, or new product formation. Following the groundwork established by a preceding symposium (Trends in the Biology of Fermentations for Fuels and Chemicals, Brookhaven National Laboratory, December 1980), the initial planning for this conference envisioned the juxtaposition of molecular genetic expertise and microbial biochemical expertise. The resultant interaction should encourage new and extended ideas for the improve ment of strains and for the generation of new regulatory combina tions to enhance microbial chemical production from cheap and abundant (including waste) substrates. The interaction should also demonstrate that new discoveries at the basic level remain essential to progress in genetic engineering. New genetic regulatory combina tions require new studies of physiology and biochemistry to assure understanding and control of the system. New biochemical reactions necessitate new studies of genetic and regulatory interaction.

In a real tour de force of pharmacological literature, this edited volume’s chapters highlight the biodiversity-driven approaches which are now of eminent importance in natural products research. It addresses the question why natural products display such complex chemical information, what makes them unique, as they often are, and what their characteristics are. Practical questions such as supply of natural substances and production optimization strategies are also covered.
