Tubulointerstitial And Cystic Disease Of The Kidney written by Susan M. Dodd and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Medical categories.

Over recent years, much renal research has focused on the pathology of the glomerulus, where many primary renal insults occur. However, nearly thirty years have passed since Risdon's study made the apparently anomalous observation that the extent of damage to the tubulointerstitial compartment is the major determinant of renal outcome in a variety of human glomerular diseases. This volume covers various aspects of tubulointerstitial disease, and starts with an update on cystic disease of the kidney, by Drs. WILSON and FALKENSTEIN, which includes recent experimental data on the altered properties of cystic epithelium. My own chapter gives an overview of the mechanisms of tubulo interstitial damage in progressive renal disease and includes a dis cussion of the possible role of cytokines, vasoactive peptides and peptide growth factors found over the last few years to be secreted by renal tubular cells. These comments are expanded in the contribution by Dr. WOLF and Professor NEILSON, who provide a detailed account of the cellular biology of tubulointerstitial growth. The earliest studies from the 19608 attempted to correlate histo morphometry of the tubulointerstitium with renal outcome. Dr. KHAN and Professor SINNIAH provide us with an update on mor phometric methods as applied to the kidney using new techniques. Similar techniques are employed by Dr. IVANYI and Professor OLSEN who give a detailed stereomorphological account of tubulitis both in acute allograft rejection, where its- recognition is central to the diagnosis, and in other forms of tubulointerstitial disease.

Renal Function And Disease In The Elderly written by Juan F. Macias Nuñez and has been published by Butterworth-Heinemann this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-04-24 with Medical categories.

Renal Function and Disease in the Elderly explores the renal system of elders. The book details the various roles of renal system, as well as the illnesses that the elderly can have. The book is inspired by the insufficient attention this topic has received among medical personnel. The book begins by discussing the changes in a person's vessels and kidney as he or she ages. The discussion then shifts to the older person's glomerulus and renal blood flow. Other chapters offer information about how aging affects a person's body systems and processes including water balance, electrolytes, kidneys, proximal tubes, and ingestion of drugs. Diseases such as urinary tract infection, interstitial nephropathies, glomerulonephritis, renal vasculitis, renal cyst, acute renal failure, and obstructive uropathy are also explained. While the book is primarily a valuable reference for medical practitioners in the field, it also caters to students and casual readers. Elderly readers, regardless of whether they have a disease or not, can also benefit from this book.

Our understanding of the pathogenesis of renal diseases and the ability to accurately classify and diagnose them has improved considerably over the last two decades. Until now, however, this information has not been available in a single, up-to-date and succinct yet comprehensive source. The publication at hand aims at filling this gap, condensing a vast amount of information into easily accessible chapters. After a discussion of basic concepts and principles of renal tissue reactions to injurious agents using a specific cell/compartment approach, a multitude of disorders are looked at, including renal interstitial fibrosis, glomerulosclerosis, various forms of glomerulonephritis and nephropathy, amyloidosis and renal Fanconi syndrome. Some of the chapters address controversial subjects, reporting the current situation and showing areas of future potential research interest. At the end of many of the contributions, a summary is provided, often in the form of a chart to facilitate the understanding of the information and to make it most useful for didactic purposes. This book is intended for students of various disciplines, as well as clinicians and investigators and all those trying to correlate basic research information with clinical issues.
