El impacto social que ha generado la intervencion en duelo en padres de ninos discapacitados con sindrome de down y la falta de sensibilizacion y la discriminacion social, hace que los profesionales de la salud entre ellos la Psicologa(o) o el(a) terapeuta, tengamos la responsabilidad de hacer aportes que beneficien la calidad de vida de esta poblacion. El presente estudio es de tipo cualitativo - descriptivo, donde el duelo de los padres comienza en el momento del diagnostico el cual se puede dar en distintos momentos y de acuerdo a la situacion en la que los padres se enfrenten a la discapacidad. La primera cuando antes de que su hijo o hija nazca, ya conocen el diagnostico de discapacidad. La segunda, cuando el nino va creciendo y detectan en el comportamientos "anormales" para su edad. A partir de estas reflexiones, debe existir una etapa donde se permita la elaboracion de un duelo frente a la perdida de un hijo sano, en el que los padres puedan revisar los sentimientos que les genera la discapacidad de un hijo, como puede ser el sentimiento de culpa.
