Free speech is a myth. Technically we're allowed to say what we want and won't get arrested for it, but we constantly have to self-censor our speech, including our political opinions, for many reasons. You're allowed to express some opinions, so long as they're the right opinions. But if you lose your ability to pay your bills as a result of your honest and open speech, then you're not really free. A handful of social justice warriors in Silicon Valley are able to decide what we can and cannot talk about, and when we can't openly express controversial opinions in the public square, then we have lost our democracy. I was a high school history teacher for 11 years and during that time I learned the hard way that my opinions were the wrong opinions. After getting an unpaid suspension for starting a blog called AidanFromWorcester.com, which expressed opinions on issues that the school did not approve of, I decided to create an anonymous blog that would act as the voice of the people - Turtleboy Sports. Turtleboy started as a hobby but has grown to a website with millions of monthly followers and is now my business. I hire bloggers who pen under nom de plumes because anonymity gives people the freedom to express opinions that many others agree with, but are afraid to say out loud out for fear of consequences. Turtleboy is popular and has grown so quickly because we say what many other people are thinking. I left teaching in November of 2014 after a blogger from Buffalo wrote a libelous blog about me, alleging that I sexually assaulted a woman in front of 60,000 people at a Patriots-Bills game. The blogger was successfully sued for libel, but so many of my students read it that it became impossible to teach anymore. After the school received hundreds of calls and death threats they offered me a full year's salary to walk away quietly. I took the money and used is to turn Turtleboy from a hobby into a business. Turtleboy has broken major stories that the mainstream media couldn't because we have better sources. We've exposed corruption involving the Massacchusetts State Police and politicians that led to the resignation of the 4 highest-ranking members of the MSP. The blog has helped expose contractors and con-artists, drug dealing state troopers, brought criminals to justice, shut down a death factory of a puppy mill, reformed school districts, and exposed insurance fraud, non-profit fraud, sexual abuse, food stamp fraud, fake hate crimes, and many other stories that the mainstream media would never touch. When I left teaching I felt liberated and free for the first time, but because our bloggers are unapologetic, brutally honest, we get a lot of pushback. We entertain by not only reporting news, but by using language that some might find unsavory. As a result outside forces have used various methods to try to silence the blog. Turtleboy has been the subject of countless boycotts. I've been unsuccessfully sued for libel many times; including by a former advertiser who was upset the blog didn't endorse him for Mayor. I've gotten too many death threats to count, had "fuck you" keyed into the hood of my car, and been angrily confronted in restaurants. I've had a Facebook page with 112,000 followers removed for wishing people a Merry Christmas, and had 32 business pages taken down since. The blog has been blacklisted by Google AdSense, and my house and phone are permanently banned from creating Twitter accounts. All of these things have combined to cost my business hundreds of thousands of dollars in just a couple years. But they will never stop Turtleboy because I refuse to censor and give up the rights that our Founding Fathers sacrificed their lives for because people who disagree with us use fear, intimidation, and economic warfare to silence us. When we self-censor we don't contribute to public discourse in the public square, and in doing so we lose our democracy. This is the story of Turtleboy.

The Myth Of Political Correctness written by John K. Wilson and has been published by Duke University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1995 with Education categories.

The classics of Western culture are out, not being taught, replaced by second-rate and Third World texts. White males are a victimized minority on campuses across the country, thanks to affirmative action. Speech codes have silenced anyone who won't toe the liberal line. Feminists, wielding their brand of sexual correctness, have taken over. These are among the prevalent myths about higher education that John K. Wilson explodes. The phrase "political correctness" is on everyone's lips, on radio and television, and in newspapers and magazines. The phenomenon itself, however, has been deceptively described. Wilson steps into the nation's favorite cultural fray to reveal that many of the most widely publicized anecdotes about PC are in fact more myth than reality. Based on his own experience as a student and in-depth research, he shows what's really going on beneath the hysteria and alarmism about political correctness and finds that the most disturbing examples of thought policing on campus have come from the right. The image of the college campus as a gulag of left-wing totalitarianism is false, argues Wilson, created largely through the exaggeration of deceptive stories by conservatives who hypocritically seek to silence their political opponents. Many of today's most controversial topics are here: multiculturalism, reverse discrimination, speech codes, date rape, and sexual harassment. So are the well-recognized protagonists in the debate: Dinesh D'Souza, William Bennett, and Lynne Cheney, among others. In lively fashion and in meticulous detail, Wilson compares fact to fiction and lays one myth after another to rest, revealing the double standard that allows "conservative correctness" on college campuses to go unchallenged.

The values of the left today are concerned with protecting the environment, winning more rights for Gay people, and advancing the welfare of women by protecting their rights in the workplace. The essays in this book have no quarrel with these new goals and values. What they are critical of are the extreme methods that have come to be used in the struggle for their achievement the various forms of political correctness denial of reality, pseudo-stupidity, the use of threats and intimidation, and the substitution of ideology for common sense. The point of view of this collection is that of someone who has lived through the important events and crises of the last seventy-five years, and of someone who has studied human nature in the consulting room for half a century.

From the president of Wesleyan University, a compassionate and provocative manifesto on the crises confronting higher education In this bracing book, Michael S. Roth stakes out a pragmatist path through the thicket of issues facing colleges today to carry out the mission of higher education. With great empathy, candor, subtlety, and insight, Roth offers a sane approach to the noisy debates surrounding affirmative action, political correctness, and free speech, urging us to envision college as a space in which students are empowered to engage with criticism and with a variety of ideas. Countering the increasing cynical dismissal—from both liberals and conservatives—of the traditional core values of higher education, this book champions the merits of different diversities, including intellectual diversity, with a timely call for universities to embrace boldness, rigor, and practical idealism.

Individual rights cannot always take precedence over collective, social responsibility. Without self-moderation, our streets, schoolyards, public transport, waiting rooms and restaurants would turn into bear pits. Most citizens understand that. Some, however, seem determined to cause disorder in the name of free speech. Powerful, machiavellian and wealthy individuals are leading this disruption and breaking the old consensus. Thus, anti-political correctness has taken over the UK and US, spearheaded by some of the most influential voices in media and politics. Invective, lies, hate speech, bullying, intemperance and prejudice have become the new norms. Intolerance is justified through invocations of liberty. Restraint is oppression. A new order has been established in which racism, sexism, homophobia and xenophobia are proudly expressed. In this powerful new book, Yasmin Alibhai-Brown puts forth a spirited defence of political correctness, forcefully arguing that, in spite of many failures, this movement has led to a more civilised, equal and tolerant world. By tracing the history and definition of the term, Alibhai-Brown looks to clarify the very nature of PC, which is ultimately grounded in human decency, understanding and compassion – all of which are essential for a safer and kinder world.

Are you one of the millions who know there is something terribly wrong with the politically correct era we are in now? In this restrictive and too often cruel unjust world with its ideologically-driven censorship and merciless 'cancel culture', its increasing dystopian dysfunctionality, its threats to our democratic freedoms and its hostility towards so much of what made Western civilisation so dynamic, innovative, prosperous, tolerant, inclusive and successful, here is an account of a key dimension of this calamity, what went wrong in our high schools. Importantly, the sections of this book clearly explaining political correctness and postmodernism go beyond understanding education to help you to understand these terms and make sense of the world we live in. In regards to education, what is really going on in curricula and classrooms is revealed and explained. Every student, parent and grandparent needs to know this. As a private tutor since 1990, Dr Mark Lopez has been able to observe and reveal what the education bureaucrats don't want you to know but you need to know. The flawed but dominant progressive educational methodologies are explained and their negative impact is powerfully illustrated with the experiences of real students. Written in the spirit of the Enlightenment, in a clear, insightful and engaging style, at times you may find yourself laughing or crying as you discover that all your suspicions are confirmed. This devastating critique of the education system reveals it as characterised by irrationality, timewasting, and a stifling political correctness. The costs and ramifications of this are extensive. This led to Dr Lopez's inevitable conclusion regarding the state of education in the politically correct era: 'School sucks'.

The Absolute End Of Racism written by Lou York and has been published by Page Publishing Inc this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-03-01 with Social Science categories.

Racism is generally defined as a person of one race exhibiting superiority over a person of another race. The fallout of such behavior can range from disrespect to intimidation to outright violence. Why does this happen, and what would it take to prevent and stop racial incidents? In this observational analysis, York explores the array of issues that contribute to the problem, including failure to acknowledge the realities of racial employment and violence, failures in individual responsibilities, a lack of focus on our shared Americanism, and direct pot stirring for the purpose of political gain. The good news is that we can absolutely reverse elements of racism out of existence, particularly in view that politicism breeds far more hatred in twenty-first-century America than racism. So turn the book over, start reading, and take note of how you can individually make a difference.
