Focusing on anatomy and procedural strategy for atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia, this atlas uses pictures and schematic diagrams to show how to use intracardiac echo (ICE) to assess anatomy, guide ablation, and prevent complications during interventional procedures, pulmonary vein stenosis, and embolic events. The authors review the state of the art and background support in the use of ICE in interventional electrophysiology procedures and the anatomy of both the atrial and ventricular chambers. They discuss innovative indications in the EP laboratory, future technologies such as 3-D echocardiography, and the integration of ICE with other types of imaging technology.

A focus on intracardiac echocardiography (ICE), with an emphasis on practical use during electrophysiological procedures This illustrated text, complemented by over 50 instructional videos, presents description, rationale, and instruction in ICE utilization for the complete range of currently performed EP procedures, including mapping and ablation procedures, device implantation procedures, and all common variations on these procedures. ICE is the only continuous real-time imaging modality with widespread utilization by electrophysiologists: ~Reliably and accurately visualize intracardiac and extracardiac structures and placement of catheters within the heart chambers. ~Observe anatomic detail otherwise invisible. ~Potentially improve procedural safety and efficacy. This text is written and edited by experts with extensive experience and knowledge that they have imparted to the reader. The editors have previously collaborated on a related textbook from Cardiotext Publishing, Fluoroscopy Reduction Techniques for Catheter Ablation of Cardiac Arrhythmias.

Tremendous advances in intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) have coincided with the evolution of interventional electrophysiology. This book is designed to provide both the electrophysiologist and echocardiographer with an in-depth view of the role and value of ICE during electrophysiologic procedures. A guide to techniques used for optimal ICE imaging in cardiac electrophysiology is provided. In addition, new and less-recognized uses of ICE in electrophysiological procedures are described and their clinical applications are presented. Illustrated with over 500 images, many of which are in color, the book can also be used as a practical atlas. Readers need not be experts in the field of echocardiography to benefit from this practical approach to intracardiac imaging in electrophysiology.

Continued advancements in the understanding of the mechanism of atrial fibrillation, along with a persistent evolution of ablation approaches for treatment of this arrhythmia, has led to an ever growing need for left atrial access. The current practice at many centers is to still utilize fluoroscopy as the sole form of imaging employed for visualization during performance of transseptal puncture. It is clear that there are distinct inherent limitations regarding the accuracy of intracardiac catheter placement and manipulation when utilizing only fluoroscopic visualization. Use of intracardiac echocardiography imaging to facilitate transseptal puncture not only aids in a potentially more accurate placement of the transseptal sheath within the left atrium, but also provides incrementally greater imaging data regarding the interatrial septum/fossa ovalis, surrounding adjacent cardiac structures, and a more immediate ability to assess for complications. This study sought to assess the feasibility and influence of phased-array intracardiac echocardiography guidance on the outcome of transseptal puncture during ablation procedures in the electrophysiology laboratory.

Echocardiography In Cardiac Interventions written by I. Cikes and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Medical categories.

This monograph represents an attempt to collect the methods developed within the past decade in which echocardiography was being used to guide or to assess the results of some cardiovascular interventions or to overcome the imaging limitations of transthoracic approaches. I have entitled this book Echocardio graphy in Cardiac Interventions, although I am aware that this title is not entirely applicable to all the included methods. In these interventive procedures echocar diography preserves its noninvasive nature, and by combining it with invasive procedures, they become more accurate, safer and less invasive. The book is divided into 8 sections and 42 chapters written by many authorities in the field. When such comprehensive contributions from many authors are used, some overlapping cannot be avoided. I would like to express my appreciation to the individual contributors for their A. 1. Tajik dedication and cooperation in preparing this book. I am indebted to Dr. from the Mayo Clinic, who created a pleasant milieu for preparing the book during my sabbatical year at the Mayo Clinic. It is hoped that the reader will derive from this book a sense of where and how the ultrasound can be used in cardiovascular interventions today and what new approaches might be forthcoming.
