Holistic Health and Recovery is about an authentic relationship to self, integrating all our functionality. We tap into the mind and its emotions, along with its spirit, and the body, relating to social and economic topics. The author shares her foundations of growing up with a dysfunctional home life and how that wreaks havoc on her brain, body, and spirit. Her struggles were many and she did not understand how much they hindered her life. Like most in her situation, her attention and focus were nearly impossible through the trauma responses left in her body and mind, which would later dictate her life choices. She could not read a book that needed any attention, so her early years in school were insurmountable, and because of that, teachers viewed her as someone who just did not apply herself. Kathleen became a young bride and mother at 22. She always longed for a connection that seemed impossible to shake. Lost with a constant flow of negativity, confusion, and sadness, she lived in the shadow of life with feeling something was always wrong but had no idea what or how to change anything. Kathleen 's transformation has been a remarkable one in her determination to find a healing connection and self-worth. She has, with over 36 years in the process to date, and her lifeline is based on spiritual values she has learned and loved. Turning many corners, often with blind faith, it woke up sleeping parts of her heart and soul, all of which enabled her to focus on self-care. Her passion has been integrating the mind and spirit callings that were missed with old thinking habits of self-destruction and poor choices. Her passion has come through much healing and reflection and many collective generations of Wisdom who raised her in a spirit calling to turn on the lights will all the help and unconditional love they offered. Supremely insightful and hopeful reading that offers guidance and resources for all walks of life and healing possibilities.

Caring is at the core of what nurses and other health professionals do. But caring encompasses more than simply looking after people’s physical health needs. People requiring any health service will have psychological needs that affect their feelings, thoughts, and behaviour. Good psychological care can even help improve physical health outcomes. An Introduction to Psychological Care in Nursing and the Health Professions explains and promotes the importance of psychological care for people when they become physically ill, giving a sound theoretical basis to ensure care is evidence-based. It encourages the reader to think about the effects of illness and disability on patients, and to understand what can be done to identify and minimise any difficulties they might be experiencing in these areas. The chapters cover: the meaning and elements of care and holistic care; a model of psychological care in practice; the personal qualities and skills of carers that best underpin psychological care delivery, and how these might be enhanced; the knowledge needed for effective psychological caregiving; psychological care as it might be practised in a range of health care settings. This text contains key learning points, practical activities, reflective exercises and case illustrations. It is ideal for student and practising nurses, and health professionals who would like to improve their care for patients in this essential area.
