Introduction To Earth Sciences A Physics Approach Second Edition written by Luc Thomas Ikelle and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-04-04 with Science categories.

For more than seven decades, geophysicists have made significant contributions to the description of solid Earth and deep space, based on the physical properties; on the exploration and production of the resources deep in the ground; and on an understanding and mitigation of the hazards associated with the Earth's dynamics, such as volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, tsunamis, landslides, hurricanes, droughts, etc. These types of events are so important that they directly affect where we live on the Earth's surface as well as the sources of food, energy resources, and minerals — and such events can affect our very survival. Yet, most universities still do not have a course focusing on an introduction to geophysics — the so-called 100-level geophysics course. All of the twelve chapters from the first edition have been improved and/or expanded. In addition to these improvements, six new chapters have been added in this second edition. The new chapters encompass: gravity, microgravity, earthquake cycle, heat variations in the subsurface, Earth's magnetic field, electricity storage, energy prices, and a more detailed description of our current understanding of Solar system and the applications of this understanding to life on Earth. This new edition can also be used in 100-level physics classes. The basic physics of matter is covered in detail along with some highly important problems and questions posed and addressed by modern physics and in Geophysics, which is actually a branch of physics.

Looking Into The Earth written by Alan E. Mussett and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000-10-23 with Science categories.

Looking Into the Earth comprehensively describes the principles and applications of both 'global' and 'exploration' geophysics on all scales. It forms an introduction to geophysics suitable for those who do not necessarily intend to become professional geophysicists, including geologists, civil engineers, environmental scientists, and field archaeologists. The book is organised into two parts: Part 1 describes the geophysical methods, while Part 2 illustrates their use in a number of extended case histories. Mathematical and physical principles are introduced at an elementary level, and then developed as necessary. Student questions and exercises are included at the end of each chapter. The book is aimed primarily at introductory and intermediate university students taking courses in geology, earth science, environmental science, and engineering. It will also form an excellent introductory textbook in geophysics departments, and will help practising geologists, archaeologists and engineers understand what geophysics can offer their work.

Introduction To Planetary Science written by Gunter Faure and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-05-04 with Science categories.

This textbook details basic principles of planetary science that help to unify the study of the solar system. It is organized in a hierarchical manner so that every chapter builds upon preceding ones. Starting with historical perspectives on space exploration and the development of the scientific method, the book leads the reader through the solar system. Coverage explains that the origin and subsequent evolution of planets and their satellites can be explained by applications of certain basic principles of physics, chemistry, and celestial mechanics and that surface features of the solid bodies can be interpreted by principles of geology.

Physical Processes In Earth And Environmental Sciences written by Mike R. Leeder and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-04-01 with Science categories.

This book provides a sound introduction to the basic physicalprocesses that dominate the workings of the Earth, its atmosphereand hydrosphere. It systematically introduces the physicalprocesses involved in the Earth’s systems without assuming anadvanced physics or mathematical background. Offers an integrated approach to the study of earth, marine andatmospheric environmental sciences, reflecting current trends inundergraduate courses. Natural examples of physical processes, rather than abstractphysics and maths, are used throughout to illustrate the scientificprinciples involved. Mechanics In The Earth And Environmental Sciences written by Gerard V. Middleton and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1994-08-26 with Science categories.

The study of the Earth and the environment requires an understanding of the physical processes within and at the surface of the Earth. This book will allow the student to develop a broad working knowledge of mechanics and its application to the earth and environmental sciences. The mathematics are introduced at a level that assumes only an understanding of first-year calculus. The concepts are then developed to allow an understanding of the basic physics for a wide range of natural processes. These are illustrated by examples from many real situations, such as the application of the theory of flow through porous media to the study of groundwater, the viscosity of fluids to the flow of lava, and the theory of stress to the study of faults. The breadth of topics will allow students and professionals to gain an insight into the workings of many aspects of the Earth's systems.
