This book presents a concise and rigorous treatment of stochastic calculus. It also gives its main applications in finance, biology and engineering. In finance, the stochastic calculus is applied to pricing options by no arbitrage. In biology, it is applied to populations' models, and in engineering it is applied to filter signal from noise. Not everything is proved, but enough proofs are given to make it a mathematically rigorous exposition. This book aims to present the theory of stochastic calculus and its applications to an audience which possesses only a basic knowledge of calculus and probability. It may be used as a textbook by graduate and advanced undergraduate students in stochastic processes, financial mathematics and engineering. It is also suitable for researchers to gain working knowledge of the subject. It contains many solved examples and exercises making it suitable for self study. In the book many of the concepts are introduced through worked-out examples, eventually leading to a complete, rigorous statement of the general result, and either a complete proof, a partial proof or a reference. Using such structure, the text will provide a mathematically literate reader with rapid introduction to the subject and its advanced applications. The book covers models in mathematical finance, biology and engineering. For mathematicians, this book can be used as a first text on stochastic calculus or as a companion to more rigorous texts by a way of examples and exercises./a

Fundamentals of Mathematical Analysis explores real and functional analysis with a substantial component on topology. The three leading chapters furnish background information on the real and complex number fields, a concise introduction to set theory, and a rigorous treatment of vector spaces. Fundamentals of Mathematical Analysis is an extensive study of metric spaces, including the core topics of completeness, compactness and function spaces, with a good number of applications. The later chapters consist of an introduction to general topology, a classical treatment of Banach and Hilbert spaces, the elements of operator theory, and a deep account of measure and integration theories. Several courses can be based on the book. This book is suitable for a two-semester course on analysis, and material can be chosen to design one-semester courses on topology or real analysis. It is designed as an accessible classical introduction to the subject and aims to achieve excellent breadth and depth and contains an abundance of examples and exercises. The topics are carefully sequenced, the proofs are detailed, and the writing style is clear and concise. The only prerequisites assumed are a thorough understanding of undergraduate real analysis and linear algebra, and a degree of mathematical maturity.

Quantum Mechanics For Engineers And Material Scientists An Introduction written by M P Anantram (Anant) and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-01-16 with Science categories.
This introductory book is aimed at students of engineering and material science who want to learn the necessary toolboxes of practical quantum mechanics. The authors have made sure that all the calculations are complete, and they have avoided the usage of the familiar phrase, 'it can be easily shown' while being mathematically rigorous. Knowledge of the sophomore level introduction to ordinary differential equations is all that is needed. Well-designed and modern examples help the reader grasp and digest the concept before moving to the next one. The book offers a lucid exposition to the modern field of quantum computing and quantum gates, two-level systems, orbitals, spin, periodic solids, tunneling, and Fermi golden rule. The basics of electronic and optical properties of nanomaterials using the basics of quantum mechanics are presented without the reader getting lost in research articles with different notations and units. There are numerous examples in the book covering topics such as carbon nanotubes, graphene, superconducting qubits, principle of scanning tunneling microscopy, heterostructure based terahertz generation and negative differential resistance device, quantized LC circuit, Grover's search algorithm, phase kickback, quantum dots, well, nanowires, quantum of conductance, ballistic conductor, spin-orbit coupling, and spin transistor. Authors use analogies based on familiar engineering concepts wherever possible to broaden the view of the reader. The philosophy behind the book is teaching by showing how it is done and using 'pictures' which is worth 1000 words.

Introduction To Classical And Modern Analysis And Their Application To Group Representation Theory written by Debabrata Basu and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011 with Science categories.
This book is suitable for use in any graduate course on analytical methods and their application to representation theory. Each concept is developed with special emphasis on lucidity and clarity. The book also shows the direct link of Cauchy?Pochhammer theory with the Hadamard?Reisz?Schwartz?Gel'fand et al. regularization. The flaw in earlier works on the Plancheral formula for the universal covering group of SL(2, R) is pointed out and rectified. This topic appears here for the first time in the correct form.Existing treatises are essentially magnum opus of the experts, intended for other experts in the field. This book, on the other hand, is unique insofar as every chapter deals with topics in a way that differs remarkably from traditional treatment. For example, Chapter 3 presents the Cauchy?Pochhammer theory of gamma, beta and zeta function in a form which has not been presented so far in any treatise of classical analysis.

This volume offers an excellent undergraduate-level introduction to the main topics, methods, and applications of partial differential equations. Chapter 1 presents a full introduction to partial differential equations and Fourier series as related to applied mathematics. Chapter 2 begins with a more comprehensive look at the principal method for solving partial differential equations — the separation of variables — and then more fully develops that approach in the contexts of Hilbert space and numerical methods. Chapter 3 includes an expanded treatment of first-order systems, a short introduction to computational methods, and aspects of topical research on the partial differential equations of fluid dynamics. With over 600 problems and exercises, along with explanations, examples, and a comprehensive section of answers, hints, and solutions, this superb, easy-to-use text is ideal for a one-semester or full-year course. It will also provide the mathematically inclined layperson with a stimulating review of the subject's essentials.

Waves And Rays In Elastic Continua 3rd Edition written by Michael A Slawinski and has been published by World Scientific Publishing Company this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-12-15 with Science categories.
The present book — which is the third, significantly revised edition of the textbook originally published by Elsevier Science — emphasizes the interdependence of mathematical formulation and physical meaning in the description of seismic phenomena. Herein, we use aspects of continuum mechanics, wave theory and ray theory to explain phenomena resulting from the propagation of seismic waves. The book is divided into three main sections: Elastic Continua, Waves and Rays and Variational Formulation of Rays. There is also a fourth part, which consists of appendices. In Elastic Continua, we use continuum mechanics to describe the material through which seismic waves propagate, and to formulate a system of equations to study the behaviour of such a material. In Waves and Rays, we use these equations to identify the types of body waves propagating in elastic continua as well as to express their velocities and displacements in terms of the properties of these continua. To solve the equations of motion in anisotropic inhomogeneous continua, we invoke the concept of a ray. In Variational Formulation of Rays, we show that, in elastic continua, a ray is tantamount to a trajectory along which a seismic signal propagates in accordance with the variational principle of stationary traveltime. Consequently, many seismic problems in elastic continua can be conveniently formulated and solved using the calculus of variations. In the Appendices, we describe two mathematical concepts that are used in the book; namely, homogeneity of a function and Legendre's transformation. This section also contains a list of symbols.

Thermal Quantum Field Theory Algebraic Aspects And Applications written by Faqir C Khanna and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-02-06 with Science categories.
This monograph presents recent developments in quantum field theory at finite temperature. By using Lie groups, ideas from thermal theory are considered with concepts of symmetry, allowing for applications not only to quantum field theory but also to transport theory, quantum optics and statistical mechanics. This includes an analysis of geometrical and topological aspects of spatially confined systems with applications to the Casimir effect, superconductivity and phase transitions. Finally, some developments in open systems are also considered. The book provides a unified picture of the fundamental aspects in thermal quantum field theory and their applications, and is important to the field as a result, since it combines several diverse ideas that lead to a better understanding of different areas of physics.
