Iran is a country located in Western Asia, bordered by Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, and Turkey. The country has a population of approximately 83 million, and its capital city is Tehran. Iran is a predominantly Muslim country, with over 99% of the population practicing the Islamic religion, and the official language is Persian. Iran is known for its rich history, culture, and traditions, including its famous Persian carpets, poetry, and cuisine. Iran's economy is heavily reliant on its oil and gas industry, with petroleum products accounting for nearly 80% of the country's exports. However, after years of economic sanctions, the Iranian economy has been struggling to grow, and its currency has been steadily decreasing in value. The country has also faced political unrest, with tensions between the Iranian government and the United States and its allies contributing to the current political climate. Despite these challenges, Iran remains an important player in the Middle East, with a rich cultural heritage and a strategic location at the crossroads of major trade routes.

Evolving Iran written by Barbara Ann Rieffer-Flanagan and has been published by Georgetown University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-03-22 with Political Science categories.

Evolving Iran presents an overview of how the politics and policy decisions in the Islamic Republic of Iran have developed since the 1979 revolution and how they are likely to evolve in the near future. Despite the fact that the revolution ushered in a theocracy, its political system has largely tended to prioritize self-interest and pragmatism over theology and religious values, while continuing to reinvent itself in the face of internal and international threats. The author also examines the prospects for democratization in Iran. Since the early years of the twentieth century, Iranians have attempted to make their political system more democratic, yet various attempts to produce a system where citizens have a meaningful voice in political decisions have failed. This book argues that greater democratization is unlikely to occur in the short term, especially in light of increased threats from the international community. This accessible overview of Iran’s political system covers a broad array of subjects, including foreign policy, human rights, women’s struggle for equality, the development and evolution of elections, and the institutions of the political system including the Revolutionary Guards and Assembly of Experts. It will appeal to undergraduates and the general public who seek to understand a country and regime that has mystified Westerners for decades.

From 2005 to 2008, the British Institute of International and Comparative Law has been conducting a comprehensive project on human rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran. The project's focus is to promote human rights as a central part of the dialogue in which the European Union and Iran have been engaged since 2002. This publication is one of the outputs of that project, designed as a practical guide and reference book for foreign jurists and human rights defenders. It deals with Iran's legal system and its internal safeguards for human rights. This book covers the political structure of Iran, the history of the judiciary in Iran, the sources and nature of Iranian law, and the internal safeguards for fundamental freedoms and rights.
