Introduction To Linear Algebra written by Gordon Mills and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-07-12 with Mathematics categories.

This is the first book on linear algebra written specifically for social scientists. It deals only with those aspects of the subject applicable in the social sciences and provides a thorough understanding of linear algebra for those who wish to use it as a tool in the design, execution, and interpretation of research. Linear mathematical models play an important role in all of the social sciences. This book provides a step-by-step introduction to those parts of linear algebra which are useful in such model building. It illustrates some of the applications of linear analysis and helps the reader learn how to convert his formulation of a social science problem into algebraic terms. The author covers matrix algebra, computational methods, linear models involving discrete variables, and clear, complete explanations of necessary mathematical concepts. Prior knowledge of calculus is not required since no use is made of calculus or of complex numbers. A novel feature of the mathematical content of the book is the treatment of models expressed in terms of variables which must be whole numbers (integers). The book is distinguished by a step-by-step exposition that allows the reader to grasp quickly and fully the principles of linear algebra. All of the examples used to illustrate the text are drawn from the social sciences, enabling the reader to relate the subject to concrete problems in his field. Exercises are included as a necessary part of the text to develop points not covered in the text and to provide practice in the algebraic formulation of applied problems. An appendix gives solutions (or hints) for selected exercises.

Matrix Algebra is a vital tool for mathematics in the social sciences, and yet many social scientists have only a rudimentary grasp of it. This volume serves as a complete introduction to matrix algebra, requiring no background knowledge beyond basic school algebra. Namboodiri's presentation is smooth and readable: it begins with the basic definitions and goes on to explain elementary manipulations and the concept of linear dependence, eigenvalues, and eigenvectors -- supplying illustrations through fully-worked examples.

Matrices And Society written by Ian Bradley and has been published by Princeton University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-07-14 with Social Science categories.

Matrices offer some of the most powerful techniques in modem mathematics. In the social sciences they provide fresh insights into an astonishing variety of topics. Dominance matrices can show how power struggles in offices or committees develop; Markov chains predict how fast news or gossip will spread in a village; permutation matrices illuminate kinship structures in tribal societies. All these invaluable techniques and many more are explained clearly and simply in this wide-ranging book. Originally published in 1986. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. The goal of the Princeton Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton University Press since its founding in 1905.

Maths For Social Sciences written by Lorenzo Peccati and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-12-28 with Mathematics categories.

This book is aimed at students in social sciences programs that include some course in quantitative methods. Stats for social sciences is frequently the subject of textbooks, while maths for social sciences is often neglected: monographs on specific themes (like, for instance, social choice systems or game theory applications) are available, but they do not adequately cover the topic in general. This textbook stems from the Bocconi University’s new "Bachelor in Government", which was launched in 2015, and is intended for undergraduate students who do not exclude maths from their toolbox. It discusses various concrete applications in political economics, political science, sociology, and demography and explores topics like Grexit, Macron’s success, immigration effects and the Arab Spring.

Basic Math For Social Scientists written by Timothy Hagle and has been published by SAGE this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1995-06-29 with Mathematics categories.

Taking an informal approach, Hagle presents a review of the basic mathematical concepts that underlie most quantitative analysis in the social sciences. After an algebra review featuring sets and combinations, Hagle discusses limits and continuity. Calculus is presented next, with an introduction to differential calculus. Multivariate functions, partial derivatives and integral calculus are discussed; the author concludes with a discussion of matrix algebra. Aimed at readers who have taken one or two courses in algebra, this volume is packed with helpful definitions, equations, and examples as well as alternative notations. A useful appendix of common math symbol and Greek letters is also included.

Conducted under the umbrella of Project Gunrunner, intended to stem the flow of firearms to Mexico, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) ran a series of gun walking sting operations, including Operations Wide Receiver and Operation Fast & Furious. The government allowed licensed gun dealers to sell weapons to illegal straw buyers so that they could continue to track the firearms as they were transferred to higher-level traffickers and key figures in Mexican cartels.Motivated by a sense of patriotic duty, Tucson gun dealer and author Mike Detty alerted the local ATF office when he was first approached by suspected cartel associates. Detty made the commitment and assumed the risks involved to help the feds make their case, often selling guns to these thugs from his home in the dead of night. Originally informed that the investigation would last just weeks, Detty s undercover involvement in Operation Wide Receiver, the precursor to Operation Fast & Furious, which was by far the largest gun walking probe, stretched on for an astonishing and dangerous three years.Though the case took several twists and turns, perhaps the cruelest turn was his betrayal by the very agency he risked everything to help.
