This book brings together the three branches of magnetic resonance spectroscopy namely, electron spin resonance (ESR), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) and presents a coherent and progressive coverage of the subject in a simple and lucid style. Each part covers the physical basis of a related spectroscopic method and its chemical applications. The emphasis is on obtaining and interpreting some types of spectra often met in the laboratory that can be applied in solving problems related to structure and behaviour of organic and inorganic molecules. Each part concludes with references to advanced literature and exercises that test the readers' understanding. This text may be used for self study. The text will benefit post graduate students at M.Sc., M. Phil. And research in Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Pharmacology.Key Features:" Use of Huckel and crystal field theory as tools in the interpretation of spectra." Extended coverage of 2D NMR spectra." NMR of nuclei such as 13C, 19F and 31P." Non-mathematical description of the experiments." Develops the foundation in a clear step-by-step manner." End of chapter exercises.

An Introduction to Spectroscopic Methods for the Identification of Organic Compounds, Volume 2 covers the theoretical aspects and some applications of certain spectroscopic methods for organic compound identification. This book is composed of 10 chapters, and begins with an introduction to the structure determination from mass spectra. The subsequent chapter presents some mass spectrometry seminar problems and answers. This presentation is followed by discussions on the problems concerning the application of UV spectroscopy and electron spin resonance spectroscopy. Other chapters deal with some advances and development in NMR spectroscopy and the elucidation of structural formula of organic compounds by a combination of spectral methods. The final chapter surveys seminar problems and answers in the identification of organic compounds using NMR, IR, UV and mass spectroscopy. This book will prove useful to organic and analytical chemists.

The Plenum Press series, Monographs in Inorganic Chemistry, is intended to fill an obvious need for high-level surveys of recent research in that area, particularly in matters which go beyond the traditional or classical bound aries of the subject. The study of n-bonding of hydrocarbon groups (and their derivatives) to metals is exactly that kind of subject, for it provides a new way of understanding the behavior of metals (which constitute four-fifths of all the chemical elements). In addition, n-bonding has expanded the intriguing area of organometallic chemistry threefold, bringing in all the transition metals, the lanthanides, and the actinides. So much has been discovered and developed in the area of n-bonded "complexes" of the metals that important new industrial processes based on such substances have been developed. A truly comprehensive review of all n-bonded compounds of the metals would now result in an impossibly large and expensive volume, and would require monthly revision. Instead, the present authors have wisely decided to write a survey which outlines the general aspects of preparation, properties, structure, reactions, and uses of such compounds-a survey which can serve as a textbook, but which can also lead the more experienced practitioner to the most advanced literature on the subject. They have clarified and condensed the subject by means of good organization and a liberal use of diagrams-features which will please the general reader.

This volume is intended for students and professionals in diverse areas of the biological and biochemical sciences. It is oriented to those who are unfamiliar with the use of physical methods in studies of the biological elements. We hope the reader will find the material a helpful reference for other volumes of this series as well as the general literature, and some may see ways to adopt these techniques in their own pursuits. Every effort has been made to avoid an abstruse presentation. It should be clear that one individual cannot be expert in all the disciplines considered here (and the authors recognize that fact with sin cere humility). As may be expected of an introductory reference, most of our attention was focused on the commonly used methods. To balance this, we have included a few examples of approaches which are promising but relatively undeveloped at this time. Also, an emphasis has been placed on element selectivity. It is impossible to envision the course of future events, and a volume which deals with instrumentation is especially prone to become outdated. Nevertheless, any valid approach to a scientific question should be applicable indefinitely.
