Introduction To Computation And Programming Using Python Revised And Expanded Edition written by John V. Guttag and has been published by MIT Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-08-09 with Computers categories.

An introductory text that teaches students the art of computational problem solving, covering topics that range from simple algorithms to information visualization. This book introduces students with little or no prior programming experience to the art of computational problem solving using Python and various Python libraries, including PyLab. It provides students with skills that will enable them to make productive use of computational techniques, including some of the tools and techniques of “data science” for using computation to model and interpret data. The book is based on an MIT course (which became the most popular course offered through MIT's OpenCourseWare) and was developed for use not only in a conventional classroom but in a massive open online course (or MOOC) offered by the pioneering MIT-Harvard collaboration edX. Students are introduced to Python and the basics of programming in the context of such computational concepts and techniques as exhaustive enumeration, bisection search, and efficient approximation algorithms. The book does not require knowledge of mathematics beyond high school algebra, but does assume that readers are comfortable with rigorous thinking and not intimidated by mathematical concepts. Although it covers such traditional topics as computational complexity and simple algorithms, the book focuses on a wide range of topics not found in most introductory texts, including information visualization, simulations to model randomness, computational techniques to understand data, and statistical techniques that inform (and misinform) as well as two related but relatively advanced topics: optimization problems and dynamic programming. Introduction to Computation and Programming Using Python can serve as a stepping-stone to more advanced computer science courses, or as a basic grounding in computational problem solving for students in other disciplines.

Introduction to Computing and Programming in Python, 3e, uses multimedia applications to motivate introductory computer science majors or non-majors. The book's hands-on approach shows how programs can be used to build multimedia computer science applications that include sound, graphics, music, pictures, and movies. The students learn a key set of computer science tools and topics, as well as programming skills; such as how to design and use algorithms, and practical software engineering methods. The book also includes optional coverage of HCI, as well as rudimentary data structures and databases using the user-friendly Python language for implementation. Authors Guzdial and Ericson also demonstrate how to communicate compatibly through networks and do concurrent programming. 0133591522 / 9780133591521 Introduction to Computing and Programming in Python & MyProgrammingLab with eText Package Package consists of 0132923513 / 9780132923514 Introduction to Computing and Programming in Python 0133590747 / 9780133590746 MyProgrammingLab with eText -- Access Code Card -- for Introduction to Computing and Programming in Python

Traditionally, scientific fields have defined boundaries, and scientists work on research problems within those boundaries. However, from time to time those boundaries get shifted or blurred to evolve new fields. For instance, the original goal of computer vision was to understand a single image of a scene, by identifying objects, their structure, and spatial arrangements. This has been referred to as image understanding. Recently, computer vision has gradually been making the transition away from understanding single images to analyz ing image sequences, or video understanding. Video understanding deals with understanding of video sequences, e. g. , recognition of gestures, activities, fa cial expressions, etc. The main shift in the classic paradigm has been from the recognition of static objects in the scene to motion-based recognition of actions and events. Video understanding has overlapping research problems with other fields, therefore blurring the fixed boundaries. Computer graphics, image processing, and video databases have obvious overlap with computer vision. The main goal of computer graphics is to gener ate and animate realistic looking images, and videos. Researchers in computer graphics are increasingly employing techniques from computer vision to gen erate the synthetic imagery. A good example of this is image-based rendering and modeling techniques, in which geometry, appearance, and lighting is de rived from real images using computer vision techniques. Here the shift is from synthesis to analysis followed by synthesis.

Envisioning The Future Of Computational Media written by Noah Wardrip-Fruin and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-10-14 with categories.

Computational media have transformed how we develop and communicate our ideas, knowledge, and values - and the transformation continues. From the World Wide Web to computer animation, from video games to social media, computation now defines much of our experience and creation of media. As a society, we are exploring the possibilities of new media forms, in a wide variety of contexts, such as smartphone apps and public interactive displays. We are reinventing long-standing media forms, in many parts of our lives, such as family albums and scholarly monographs. We are inventing new tools, and new ways of working, that are transforming practices such as film production and book publishing. This comes as a result of research and experimentation across universities and industry. Envisioning the Future of Computational Media begins by describing the rapidly-growing interdisciplinary research field that is at the forefront of this: computational media. This field brings together people knowledgeable about the arts, the humanities, and the sciences - particularly computer science, but also the social sciences - to pursue questions that could only arise, and only be answered, through interdisciplinary research. Envisioning the Future of Computational Media then goes on to describe some of the remarkable opportunities and persistent challenges that face the field. The opportunities include ongoing growth of economic and cultural impact, powerful approaches for addressing national priorities, and the potential for establishing new centers for education and research. The challenges include the need for basic and applied interdisciplinary research, the need for more interdisciplinary practitioners and greater diversity, the need for deeper, more accessible collections of computational media artifacts, and others. In order to seize the opportunities, and address the accompanying challenges, Envisioning the Future of Computational Media describes 12 field-shaping recommendations, with concrete examples of potential interventions. These recommendations - along with the field description, opportunities, and challenges - are synthesized from a national convening of diverse field experts, along with more than a year of follow-up conversation and research (made possible by the National Science Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the National Endowment for the Arts, Microsoft Studios, and Microsoft Research).

Media Space: 20+ Years of Mediated Life is loosely divided into three different, but interconnected, approaches to media space research. Each part opens with an introduction that lays out how readers can best approach the book, and provides a basic guide to the theory and research literature, technological developments and other notable events to help contextualize the book. The ‘social ‘ approach uses the rhetoric and methods familiar to a CSCW audience, but moves into actual situations that involve close working bonds, broken trust, shared joy, community building, interpersonal tension, anxiety etc. The section on ‘spatial’ approaches guides the reader through an intellectual landscape of spatiality, the ‘communications’ part is a field guide to sense-making in the as-lived mediated condition, demonstrating that media space sense-making combines an understanding of in-the-moment alongside sense made of existence in the world and reflecting upon it.
