The book is about multidisciplinary science education. The challenges of our time, such as improving the length and quality of lives on Earth and short- and long-distance communication and transportation. In this book, we provide readers with the multidisciplinary education necessary to meet the scientific and technological challenges of our time while optimizing the college experience for students. The fundamental notions addressed in this book include gravitational forces and energy; dark matter and dark energy; heat transfer in solid Earth, stars’ interiors, and human bodies; electromagnetic radiation and spectroscopy; quantum entanglement and computing; accretion disks; matter in plasma state; and exoplanets. We illustrate the importance of these notions with applications across disciplines, including monitoring the deformation of the solid Earth’s surface using satellite measurements, unusual gravity anomalies in Antarctica, a view and characterization of the far side of our Moon, Earth’s climate, Titan’s anti-greenhouse effect, long-distance communication between Earth and the planets and exoplanets, etc. Finally, the book contains analytical and computational problems, including MATLAB software developed especially for the classes associated with this book. Key Features: • Contains multiple analytic and computational (MATLAB) exercises • Explores applications related to space programs' discoveries • Provides an accessible introduction and response to growing Multidisciplinary Science programs Dr. Luc Thomas Ikelle is a scientist with Imode Energy. He is also currently an adjunct professor in the Department of Geology and Geophysics at Texas A&M University. Previously, he worked at Cray Research Inc. in Minneapolis, developing 3D seismic inversion algorithms for CRAY Y-PM. From 1988 to 1997, he worked as a scientist for Schlumberger Geco-Prakla, Schlumberger Doll Research, and Schlumberger Cambridge Research. From 1997 to 2014, Dr. Ikelle was Robert R. Berg Professor in the Department of Geology and Geophysics at Texas A&M University. He earned a Ph.D. in geophysics and geochemistry from Paris 7 University in France. He received Le Prix de Thesis du CNRS in 1986 for his Ph.D. thesis, an SEG award in 2010 for his contribution to the creation of Geoscientists Without Borders, and a Texas AM University award as an outstanding scientist in 2012. He is a cofounder of Geoscientists Without Borders and of Imode Energy Research, and a member of SEG, AGU, and APS. Dr. Ikelle has worked as a DOE (US Department of Energy) special employer from 2005 to 2012 and was a member of Ultra-Deepwater Advisory Committee (an advisory committee to the Secretary of Energy) from 2005 to 2012.

This book covers the materials of multiple current programs in a short space because these programs include huge duplications that we have avoided here. They also unnecessarily over-elaborate on some materials, which are actually just examples, exercises, or applications of a given topic, another issue avoided in this text.

Extreme Environmental Events written by Robert A. Meyers and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011 with Climatic changes categories.

Extreme Environmental Events is an authoritative single source for understanding and applying the basic tenets of complexity and systems theory, as well as the tools and measures for analyzing complex systems, to the prediction, monitoring, and evaluation of major natural phenomena affecting life on earth. These phenomena are often highly destructive, and include earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanoes, climate change, and weather. Early warning, damage, and the immediate response of human populations to these phenomena are also covered from the point of view of complexity and nonlinear systems. In 61 authoritative, state-of-the art articles, world experts in each field apply such tools and concepts as fractals, cellular automata, solitons game theory, network theory, and statistical physics to an understanding of these complex geophysical phenomena.

Seismic Inverse Q Filtering written by Yanghua Wang and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-01-26 with Science categories.

Seismic inverse Q filtering is a data processing technology for enhancing the resolution of seismic images. It employs a wave propagation reversal procedure that compensates for energy absorption and corrects wavelet distortion due to velocity dispersion. By compensating for amplitude attenuation, seismic data can provide true relative-amplitude information for amplitude inversion and subsequent reservoir characterization. By correcting the phase distortion, seismic data with enhanced vertical resolution can yield correct timings for lithological identification. This monograph presents the theory of inverse Q filtering and a series of algorithms, collected with the following selection criteria in mind: robustness, effectiveness and practicality. The book is written for processing geophysicists who are attempting to improve the quality of seismic data in terms of resolution and signal-to-noise ratio, as well as for reservoir geophysicists who are concerned about seismic fidelity in terms of true amplitudes, true timings and true frequencies. It will also be particularly valuable as a guide for seasoned geophysicists who are attempting to develop seismic software for various research settings. Finally, it can be used as a reference work or textbook for postgraduate students in seismic and reservoir geophysics.

Imagine Design Create written by Tom Wujec and has been published by Melcher Media Incorporated this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-05 with Design categories.

Imagine, Design, Create offers a wide-ranging look at how the creative process and the tools of design are dramatically changing--and where design is headed in the coming years. Bringing together stories of good design happening around the world, the book shows how people are using fresh design approaches and new capabilities to solve problems, create opportunities, and improve the way we live and work. From the impact of SOM's Cathedral of Christ the Light in Oakland to the spark that inspired Thomas Heatherwick's U.K. Pavilion in Shanghai; from the new processes fueling Zaha Hadid's extraordinary architecture to the digital tools Ford is using to transform car design, each of these stories explores questions that swirl around the idea of design. How does design change our lives for the better? How is our capacity to produce good design evolving? How will the next generation of designers work? What will they make? What new areas of human experience is design opening for us? Now that designers can do almost anything--what should they do? The Publisher has two cover versions for this title. The books will ship with either a black or white cover. The interior contents are the same.
