South Sudan is a country located in East-Central Africa. It is the newest country in the world, gaining its independence from Sudan in 2011. The country has a population of about 11 million people, with over 60 tribes, the largest of which are the Dinka, Nuer, and Shilluk. The official languages are English and Arabic, but there are over 60 indigenous languages spoken throughout the country. South Sudan faces significant challenges, including civil war, poverty, and underdevelopment. The country has experienced conflict and instability since gaining independence, with ongoing ethnic tensions and disputes over resources. The majority of the population lives in poverty, with limited access to basic services such as healthcare and education. Despite these challenges, South Sudan has a rich cultural heritage and is home to diverse ethnic groups, languages, and traditional customs. Efforts are being made to develop the country's infrastructure and economy, but progress has been slow due to ongoing conflict and political instability.

For thirty years Sudan has been a country in crisis, wracked by near-constant warfare between the north and the south. But on July 9, 2011, South Sudan became an independent nation. As Sudan once again finds itself the focus of international attention, former special envoy to Sudan and director of USAID Andrew Natsios provides a timely introduction to the country at this pivotal moment in its history. Focusing on the events of the last 25 years, Sudan, South Sudan, and Darfur: What Everyone Needs to Know® sheds light on the origins of the conflict between northern and southern Sudan and the complicated politics of this volatile nation. Natsios gives readers a first-hand view of Sudan's past as well as an honest appraisal of its future. In the wake of South Sudan's independence, Natsios explores the tensions that remain on both sides. Issues of citizenship, security, oil management, and wealth-sharing all remain unresolved. Human rights issues, particularly surrounding the ongoing violence in Darfur, likewise still clamor for solutions. Informative and accessible, this book introduces readers to the most central issues facing Sudan as it stands on the brink of historic change. South Sudan written by Douglas H. Johnson and has been published by Ohio University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-11-15 with History categories.

Africa’s newest nation has a long history. Often considered remote and isolated from the rest of Africa, and usually associated with the violence of slavery and civil war, South Sudan has been an arena for a complex mixing of peoples, languages, and beliefs. The nation’s diversity is both its strength and a challenge as its people attempt to overcome the legacy of decades of war to build a new economic, political, and national future. Most recent studies of South Sudan’s history have a foreshortened sense of the past, focusing on current political issues, the recently ended civil war, or the ongoing conflicts within the country and along its border with Sudan. This brief but substantial overview of South Sudan’s longue durée, by one of the world’s foremost experts on the region, answers the need for a current, accessible book on this important country. Drawing on recent advances in the archaeology of the Nile Valley, new fieldwork as well as classic ethnography, and local and foreign archives, Johnson recovers South Sudan’s place in African history and challenges the stereotypes imposed on its peoples.

This textbook in history is primarily intended for secondary schools in South Sudan. The focus is on the history of South Sudan, and is in this sense a pioneer work since it is the country's first secondary school book dealing primarily with the history of the South. Even though the focus is on South Sudan its history cannot be interpreted in a vacuum, and particularly North-South relations are discussed extensively in the book. Secondary school students in Sudan have either studied the history of Kenya and Uganda, or the history of North Sudan since no history book for South Sudan has existed. The book may also be of interest to academics, politicians, historians and college and university students as well civil society groups such as churches, youth and women's groups.

This book is a comprehensive investigation, discussion, and analysis of the origins and development of the first civil war in the Sudan, which occurred between 1955 and1972. It was the culmination of ethnic, racial, cultural, religious, political, and economic problems that had faced the Sudan since the Turco-Egyptian conquest of the country in 1821. The hostilities between the Northern and Southern regions of the Sudan also involved foreign powers that had their own geopolitical interests in the country. The first Sudanese civil war is a classic example of intra-regional and inter-regional conflicts in Africa in the 20th century.

Sudan is a country located in northeastern Africa, bordered by Egypt to the north, Libya to the northwest, Chad to the west, Central African Republic to the southwest, South Sudan to the south, Ethiopia to the southeast, and the Red Sea to the northeast. The country is home to over 40 million people and is one of the largest in Africa in terms of land area. It is also one of the most diverse countries in terms of languages, cultures, and religions, with Arabic and Islam being predominant in the northern regions, while different African languages and religions are more prevalent in the south. Since its independence from colonial rule, Sudan has experienced widespread violence and instability, including two civil wars that lasted for several decades and resulted in the secession of South Sudan in 2011. Even after the split, Sudan still faces numerous challenges, including economic crisis, political turmoil, ongoing conflicts in Darfur and other regions, and a large number of refugees and internally displaced people. However, the country also has significant resources and potential, including oil reserves, mineral deposits, and a strategic location at the crossroads of Africa and the Middle East.

The Politics Of Two Sudans written by Deng D. Akol Ruay and has been published by Nordic Africa Institute this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1994 with History categories.

This book gives a vivid account of the political history of Sudan from 1821 to 1969. It shows why Sudan is in reality two Sudans, which differ in every substantive aspect: geographical, ethnic, cultural, and religious. North and South Sudan became one sovereign state by colonial fiat. Since 1821 the Turko-Egyptian rules in Sudan sealed the fate of the Southern people. From that time onwards Southern Sudan has been laid bare to foreign intervention and influence. The Southern Sudanese have experienced all kinds of exploitation, including the slave trade, subjection to alien cultures and religions, colonialism, and finally outright annexation to the Arab North. This foreign interference was, and still is, fiercely resisted by the Southerners. This book traces, analyzes, and evaluates their protracted struggle. The analysis leads to the logical conclusion that the two Sudans will inevitably in the near future become separate, sovereign states.
