Chapter 1: Introduction to Physical Geography of the eBook Understanding Physical Geography. This eBook was written for students taking introductory Physical Geography taught at a college or university. For the chapters currently available on Google Play presentation slides (Powerpoint and Keynote format) and multiple choice test banks are available for Professors using my eBook in the classroom. Please contact me via email at [email protected] if you would like to have access to these resources. The various chapters of the Google Play version of Understanding Physical Geography are FREE for individual use in a non-classroom environment. This has been done to support life long learning. However, the content of Understanding Physical Geography is NOT FREE for use in college and university courses in countries that have a per capita GDP over $25,000 (US dollars) per year where more than three chapters are being used in the teaching of a course. More specifically, for university and college instructors using this work in such wealthier countries, in a credit-based course where a tuition fee is accessed, students should be instructed to purchase the paid version of this content on Google Play which is organized as one of six Parts (organized chapters). One exception to this request is a situation where a student is experiencing financial hardship. In this case, the student should use the individual chapters which are available from Google Play for free. The cost of these Parts works out to only $0.99 per chapter in USA dollars, a very small fee for my work. When the entire textbook (30 chapters) is finished its cost will be only $29.70 in USA dollars. This is far less expensive than similar textbooks from major academic publishing companies whose eBook are around $50.00 to $90.00. Further, revenue generated from the sale of this academic textbook will provide “the carrot” to entice me to continue working hard creating new and updated content. Thanks in advance to instructors and students who abide by these conditions. IMPORTANT - This Google Play version is best viewed with a computer using Google Chrome, Firefox or Apple Safari browsers.

: Human Gegraphy is a wide-ranging subfield that is intertwined with virtually every other academic field. The spatial perspective is this connection, which basically means that if a phenomenon can be mapped, it has some connection to Geography. Geographical knowledge is essential to a competent comprehension of our global environment, and the study of the entire world is an intriguing field. In this section, a reader will realize what topography is as well as a portion of the crucial ideas that support the discipline. As you progress through the subsequent chapters, a solid understanding of these fundamental terms and ideas is essential because they will be interwoven throughout the text. This textbook is an introduction to the study of Human Geography. It gives new geographers a simple way to get started in the field while also encouraging readers to dig deeper and learn more.

"Covers a broad range of subjects that undergraduates in the discipline should be familiar and comfortable with upon graduation. From chapters on the scientific method and fundamental research concepts, to experimental design, sampling and statistical analysis, the text offers an excellent introduction to the key concepts of geographical research. The content is applicable for students at the beginning of their studies right through to planning and conducting dissertations. The book has also been of particular support in designing my level 1 and 2 tutorials which cover similar ground to several of the chapters." - Joseph Mallalieu, School of Geography, Leeds University "Montello and Sutton is one of the best texts I′ve used in seminars on research methodology. The text offers a clear balance of quantitative vs. qualitative and physical vs. human which I′ve found particularly valuable. The chapters on research ethics, scientific communication, information technologies and data visualization are excellent." - Kenneth E. Foote, Department of Geography, University of Colorado at Boulder This is a broad and integrative introduction to the conduct and interpretation of scientific research, covering both geography and environmental studies. Written for undergraduate and postgraduate students, it: Explains both the conceptual and the technical aspects of research, as well as all phases of the research process Combines approaches in physical geography and environmental science, human geography and human-environment relations, and geographic and environmental information techniques (such as GIS, cartography, and remote sensing) Combines natural and social scientific approaches common to subjects in geography and environmental studies Includes case studies of actual research projects to demonstrate the breadth of approaches taken It will be core reading for students studying scientific research methods in geography, environmental studies and related disciplines such as planning and earth science.

Introduction To Geography Where In The World Do Muslims Live written by Susan Douglass and has been published by International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT) & Kendall/Hunt Publishing Company this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1995-01-01 with Education categories.

This supplementary unit is an introduction to the geography of regions where Muslims live as majorities and a description of the circumstances in which Muslims live as minorities. The focus is more regional than national, so as to overstep the arbitrary modern borders that divide Muslim populations among numerous countries. The unit is designed to complement typical geography surveys offered in elementary social studies curricula. It is designed for grade four, but may be used for grades five and six if the curriculum so requires. Study of this unit may be undertaken after the students have received an introduction to basic geography and map skills. It is probably best undertaken during the second half of the fourth grade year, but since important geography concepts and skills are both introduced and reviewed here, the teacher may be confident to proceed earlier. The structure of the unit is unique in that the student text is in the form of a play script, whose characters, a teacher and her students, model a cooperative learning experience as they study regions of the world where Muslims live. The main objectives of this unit are to provide students with an overview of the places where Muslims live as majority and minority communities, and to investigate selected aspects of geographic and cultural diversity within the context of Islamic unity. The unit consists of an eight-lesson student text with teaching suggestions and enrichment activities. Comprehension questions, map skills and worksheets accompany the text for concept reinforcement and skill building. While the unit is designed for flexibility, it is recommended that the students be exposed to the entire student text. If time does not allow extensive study of the unit materials, the teacher may select only basic material from the teaching suggestions rather than covering these with depth and enrichment.

An Introduction To The Geography Of Health written by Helen Hazen and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-05-23 with Health & Fitness categories.

Health issues such as the emergence of infectious diseases, the potential influence of global warming on human health, and the escalating strain of increasing longevity and chronic conditions on healthcare systems are of growing importance in an increasingly peopled and interconnected world. A geographic approach to the study of health offers a critical perspective to these issues, considering how changing relationships between people and their environments influence human health. An Introduction to the Geography of Health provides an accessible introduction to this rapidly growing field, covering theoretical and methodological background. The text is divided into three sections which consider distinct approaches and techniques related to health geographies. Section one introduces ecological approaches, with a focus on how natural and built environments affect human health. For instance, how have irrigation projects influenced the spread of water-borne diseases? How can modern healthcare settings, such as hospitals, affect the spread and evolution of pathogens? Section two discusses social aspects of health and healthcare, considering health as not merely a biological interaction between a pathogen and human host, but as a process that is situated among social factors which ultimately drive who suffers from what, and where disease occurs. Section three then considers spatial techniques and approaches to exploring health, giving special focus to the growing role of cartography and geographic information systems (GIS) in the study of health. This clearly written text contains a range of pedagogical features including a wealth of global case studies, discussion questions and suggestions for further reading at the end of each chapter, a colour plate section and over eighty diagrams and figures. The accompanying website also provides presentations, exercises, further resources, and tables and figures. This book is an essential introductory text for undergraduate students studying Geography, Health and Social Studies.
