The breadth of information about operations research and the overwhelming size of previous sources on the subject make it a difficult topic for non-specialists to grasp. Fortunately, Introduction to the Mathematics of Operations Research with Mathematica®, Second Edition delivers a concise analysis that benefits professionals in operations research and related fields in statistics, management, applied mathematics, and finance. The second edition retains the character of the earlier version, while incorporating developments in the sphere of operations research, technology, and mathematics pedagogy. Covering the topics crucial to applied mathematics, it examines graph theory, linear programming, stochastic processes, and dynamic programming. This self-contained text includes an accompanying electronic version and a package of useful commands. The electronic version is in the form of Mathematica notebooks, enabling you to devise, edit, and execute/reexecute commands, increasing your level of comprehension and problem-solving. Mathematica sharpens the impact of this book by allowing you to conveniently carry out graph algorithms, experiment with large powers of adjacency matrices in order to check the path counting theorem and Markov chains, construct feasible regions of linear programming problems, and use the "dictionary" method to solve these problems. You can also create simulators for Markov chains, Poisson processes, and Brownian motions in Mathematica, increasing your understanding of the defining conditions of these processes. Among many other benefits, Mathematica also promotes recursive solutions for problems related to first passage times and absorption probabilities.

A Concrete Introduction To Real Analysis written by Robert Carlson and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-05-30 with Mathematics categories.

Most volumes in analysis plunge students into a challenging new mathematical environment, replete with axioms, powerful abstractions, and an overriding emphasis on formal proofs. This can lead even students with a solid mathematical aptitude to often feel bewildered and discouraged by the theoretical treatment. Avoiding unnecessary abstractions to provide an accessible presentation of the material, A Concrete Introduction to Real Analysis supplies the crucial transition from a calculations-focused treatment of mathematics to a proof-centered approach. Drawing from the history of mathematics and practical applications, this volume uses problems emerging from calculus to introduce themes of estimation, approximation, and convergence. The book covers discrete calculus, selected area computations, Taylor's theorem, infinite sequences and series, limits, continuity and differentiability of functions, the Riemann integral, and much more. It contains a large collection of examples and exercises, ranging from simple problems that allow students to check their understanding of the concepts to challenging problems that develop new material. Providing a solid foundation in analysis, A Concrete Introduction to Real Analysis demonstrates that the mathematical treatments described in the text will be valuable both for students planning to study more analysis and for those who are less inclined to take another analysis class.

The second edition of this successful and widely recognized textbook again focuses on discrete topics. The author recognizes two distinct paths of study and careers of actuarial science and financial engineering. This text can be very useful as a common core for both. Therefore, there is substantial material in Introduction to Financial Mathematics, Second Edition on the theory of interest (the first half of the book), as well as the probabilistic background necessary for the study of portfolio optimization and derivative valuation (the second half). A course in multivariable calculus is not required. The material in the first two chapters should go a long way toward helping students prepare for the Financial Mathematics (FM) actuarial exam. Also, the discrete material will reveal how beneficial it is for the students to know more about loans in their personal financial lives. The notable changes and updates to this edition are itemized in the Preface, but overall, the presentation has been made more efficient. One example is the chapter on discrete probability, which is rather unique in its emphasis on giving the deterministic problems studied earlier a probabilistic context. The section on Markov chains, which is not essential to the development, has been scaled down. Sample spaces and probability measures, random variables and distributions, expectation, conditional probability, independence, and estimation all follow. Optimal portfolio selection coverage is reorganized and the section on the practicalities of stock transactions has been revised. Market portfolio and Capital Market Theory coverage is expanded. New sections on Swaps and Value-at-Risk have been added. This book, like the first edition, was written so that the print edition could stand alone. At times we simplify complicated algebraic expressions, or solve systems of linear equations, or numerically solve non-linear equations. Also, some attention is given to the use of computer simulation to approximate solutions to problems.

Because traditional ring theory places restrictive hypotheses on all submodules of a module, its results apply only to small classes of already well understood examples. Often, modules with infinite Goldie dimension have finite-type dimension, making them amenable to use with type dimension, but not Goldie dimension. By working with natural classes

This introductory textbook is designed for a one-semester course on queueing theory that does not require a course on stochastic processes as a prerequisite. By integrating the necessary background on stochastic processes with the analysis of models, the work provides a sound foundational introduction to the modeling and analysis of queueing systems for a broad interdisciplinary audience of students in mathematics, statistics, and applied disciplines such as computer science, operations research, and engineering. This edition includes additional topics in methodology and applications. Key features: • An introductory chapter including a historical account of the growth of queueing theory in more than 100 years. • A modeling-based approach with emphasis on identification of models • Rigorous treatment of the foundations of basic models commonly used in applications with appropriate references for advanced topics. • A chapter on matrix-analytic method as an alternative to the traditional methods of analysis of queueing systems. • A comprehensive treatment of statistical inference for queueing systems. • Modeling exercises and review exercises when appropriate. The second edition of An Introduction of Queueing Theory may be used as a textbook by first-year graduate students in fields such as computer science, operations research, industrial and systems engineering, as well as related fields such as manufacturing and communications engineering. Upper-level undergraduate students in mathematics, statistics, and engineering may also use the book in an introductory course on queueing theory. With its rigorous coverage of basic material and extensive bibliography of the queueing literature, the work may also be useful to applied scientists and practitioners as a self-study reference for applications and further research. "...This book has brought a freshness and novelty as it deals mainly with modeling and analysis in applications as well as with statistical inference for queueing problems. With his 40 years of valuable experience in teaching and high level research in this subject area, Professor Bhat has been able to achieve what he aimed: to make [the work] somewhat different in content and approach from other books." - Assam Statistical Review of the first edition

Computational Probability written by John H. Drew and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-12-15 with Business & Economics categories.

This new edition includes the latest advances and developments in computational probability involving A Probability Programming Language (APPL). The book examines and presents, in a systematic manner, computational probability methods that encompass data structures and algorithms. The developed techniques address problems that require exact probability calculations, many of which have been considered intractable in the past. The book addresses the plight of the probabilist by providing algorithms to perform calculations associated with random variables. Computational Probability: Algorithms and Applications in the Mathematical Sciences, 2nd Edition begins with an introductory chapter that contains short examples involving the elementary use of APPL. Chapter 2 reviews the Maple data structures and functions necessary to implement APPL. This is followed by a discussion of the development of the data structures and algorithms (Chapters 3–6 for continuous random variables and Chapters 7–9 for discrete random variables) used in APPL. The book concludes with Chapters 10–15 introducing a sampling of various applications in the mathematical sciences. This book should appeal to researchers in the mathematical sciences with an interest in applied probability and instructors using the book for a special topics course in computational probability taught in a mathematics, statistics, operations research, management science, or industrial engineering department.
