Chapter 1 The algebraic prerequisites for the book are covered here and in the appendix. This chapter should be used as reference material and should be consulted as needed. A systematic treatment of algebras, coalgebras, bialgebras, Hopf algebras, and represen tations of these objects to the extent needed for the book is given. The material here not specifically cited can be found for the most part in [Sweedler, 1969] in one form or another, with a few exceptions. A great deal of emphasis is placed on the coalgebra which is the dual of n x n matrices over a field. This is the most basic example of a coalgebra for our purposes and is at the heart of most algebraic constructions described in this book. We have found pointed bialgebras useful in connection with solving the quantum Yang-Baxter equation. For this reason we develop their theory in some detail. The class of examples described in Chapter 6 in connection with the quantum double consists of pointed Hopf algebras. We note the quantized enveloping algebras described Hopf algebras. Thus for many reasons pointed bialgebras are elsewhere are pointed of fundamental interest in the study of the quantum Yang-Baxter equation and objects quantum groups.

The main part of the book is based on a one semester graduate course for students in mathematics. I have attempted to develop the theory of hyperbolic systems of differen tial equations in a systematic way, making as much use as possible ofgradient systems and their algebraic representation. However, despite the strong sim ilarities between the development of ideas here and that found in a Lie alge bras course this is not a book on Lie algebras. The order of presentation has been determined mainly by taking into account that algebraic representation and homomorphism correspondence with a full rank Lie algebra are the basic tools which require a detailed presentation. I am aware that the inclusion of the material on algebraic and homomorphism correspondence with a full rank Lie algebra is not standard in courses on the application of Lie algebras to hyperbolic equations. I think it should be. Moreover, the Lie algebraic structure plays an important role in integral representation for solutions of nonlinear control systems and stochastic differential equations yelding results that look quite different in their original setting. Finite-dimensional nonlin ear filters for stochastic differential equations and, say, decomposability of a nonlinear control system receive a common understanding in this framework.

In Chapter 6, we describe the concept of braid equivalence from the topological point of view. This will lead us to a new concept braid homotopy that is discussed fully in the next chapter. As just mentioned, in Chapter 7, we shall discuss the difference between braid equivalence and braid homotopy. Also in this chapter, we define a homotopy braid invariant that turns out to be the so-called Milnor number. Chapter 8 is a quick review of knot theory, including Alexander's theorem. While, Chapters 9 is devoted to Markov's theorem, which allows the application of this theory to other fields. This was one of the motivations Artin had in mind when he began studying braid theory. In Chapter 10, we discuss the primary applications of braid theory to knot theory, including the introduction of the most important invariants of knot theory, the Alexander polynomial and the Jones polynomial. In Chapter 11, motivated by Dirac's string problem, the ordinary braid group is generalized to the braid groups of various surfaces. We discuss these groups from an intuitive and diagrammatic point of view. In the last short chapter 12, we present without proof one theorem, due to Gorin and Lin [GoL] , that is a surprising application of braid theory to the theory of algebraic equations.

Power Algebras Over Semirings written by Jonathan S. Golan and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-04-17 with Mathematics categories.

This monograph is a continuation of several themes presented in my previous books [146, 149]. In those volumes, I was concerned primarily with the properties of semirings. Here, the objects of investigation are sets of the form RA, where R is a semiring and A is a set having a certain structure. The problem is one of translating that structure to RA in some "natural" way. As such, it tries to find a unified way of dealing with diverse topics in mathematics and theoretical com puter science as formal language theory, the theory of fuzzy algebraic structures, models of optimal control, and many others. Another special case is the creation of "idempotent analysis" and similar work in optimization theory. Unlike the case of the previous work, which rested on a fairly established mathematical foundation, the approach here is much more tentative and docimastic. This is an introduction to, not a definitative presentation of, an area of mathematics still very much in the making. The basic philosphical problem lurking in the background is one stated suc cinctly by Hahle and Sostak [185]: ". . . to what extent basic fields of mathematics like algebra and topology are dependent on the underlying set theory?" The conflicting definitions proposed by various researchers in search of a resolution to this conundrum show just how difficult this problem is to see in a proper light.

This collection contains papers conceptually related to the classical ideas of Sophus Lie (i.e., to Lie groups and Lie algebras). Obviously, it is impos sible to embrace all such topics in a book of reasonable size. The contents of this one reflect the scientific interests of those authors whose activities, to some extent at least, are associated with the International Sophus Lie Center. We have divided the book into five parts in accordance with the basic topics of the papers (although it can be easily seen that some of them may be attributed to several parts simultaneously). The first part (quantum mathematics) combines the papers related to the methods generated by the concepts of quantization and quantum group. The second part is devoted to the theory of hypergroups and Lie hypergroups, which is one of the most important generalizations of the classical concept of locally compact group and of Lie group. A natural harmonic analysis arises on hypergroups, while any abstract transformation of Fourier type is gen erated by some hypergroup (commutative or not). Part III contains papers on the geometry of homogeneous spaces, Lie algebras and Lie superalgebras. Classical problems of the representation theory for Lie groups, as well as for topological groups and semigroups, are discussed in the papers of Part IV. Finally, the last part of the collection relates to applications of the ideas of Sophus Lie to differential equations.

This book exposes methods of non-abelian homological algebra, such as the theory of satellites in abstract categories with respect to presheaves of categories and the theory of non-abelian derived functors of group valued functors. Applications to K-theory, bivariant K-theory and non-abelian homology of groups are given. The cohomology of algebraic theories and monoids are also investigated. The work is based on the recent work of the researchers at the A. Razmadze Mathematical Institute in Tbilisi, Georgia. Audience: This volume will be of interest to graduate students and researchers whose work involves category theory, homological algebra, algebraic K-theory, associative rings and algebras; algebraic topology, and algebraic geometry.

Meromorphic Functions And Projective Curves written by Kichoon Yang and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-11-27 with Mathematics categories.

This book contains an exposition of the theory of meromorphic functions and linear series on a compact Riemann surface. Thus the main subject matter consists of holomorphic maps from a compact Riemann surface to complex projective space. Our emphasis is on families of meromorphic functions and holomorphic curves. Our approach is more geometric than algebraic along the lines of [Griffiths-Harrisl]. AIso, we have relied on the books [Namba] and [Arbarello-Cornalba-Griffiths-Harris] to agreat exten- nearly every result in Chapters 1 through 4 can be found in the union of these two books. Our primary motivation was to understand the totality of meromorphic functions on an algebraic curve. Though this is a classical subject and much is known about meromorphic functions, we felt that an accessible exposition was lacking in the current literature. Thus our book can be thought of as a modest effort to expose parts of the known theory of meromorphic functions and holomorphic curves with a geometric bent. We have tried to make the book self-contained and concise which meant that several major proofs not essential to further development of the theory had to be omitted. The book is targeted at the non-expert who wishes to leam enough about meromorphic functions and holomorphic curves so that helshe will be able to apply the results in hislher own research. For example, a differential geometer working in minimal surface theory may want to tind out more about the distribution pattern of poles and zeros of a meromorphic function.

A module M is called distributive if the lattice Lat(M) of all its submodules is distributive, i.e., Fn(G + H) = FnG + FnH for all submodules F,G, and H of the module M. A module M is called uniserial if all its submodules are comparable with respect to inclusion, i.e., the lattice Lat(M) is a chain. Any direct sum of distributive (resp. uniserial) modules is called a semidistributive (resp. serial) module. The class of distributive (resp. semidistributive) modules properly cont.ains the class ofall uniserial (resp. serial) modules. In particular, all simple (resp. semisimple) modules are distributive (resp. semidistributive). All strongly regular rings (for example, all factor rings of direct products of division rings and all commutative regular rings) are distributive; all valuation rings in division rings and all commutative Dedekind rings (e.g., rings of integral algebraic numbers or commutative principal ideal rings) are distributive. A module is called a Bezout module or a locally cyclic module ifevery finitely generated submodule is cyclic. If all maximal right ideals of a ring A are ideals (e.g., if A is commutative), then all Bezout A-modules are distributive.
