Intuition And Reflection In Self Consciousness written by Kitaro Nishida and has been published by State University of New York Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1987-01-09 with Philosophy categories.

Nishida Kitaro's reformulation of the major issues of Western philosophy from a Zen standpoint of "absolute nothingness" and "absolutely contradictory self-identity" represents the boldest speculative enterprise of modern Japan, continued today by his successors in the "Kyoto School" of philosophy. This English translation of Intuition and Reflection in Self-Consciousness evokes the movement and flavor of the original, clarifies its obscurities, and eliminates the repetitions. It sheds new light on the philosopher's career, revealing a long struggle with such thinkers as Cohen, Natorp, Husserl, Fichte, and Bergson, that ended with Nishida's break from the basic ontological assumptions of the West. Throughout labyrinthine arguments, Nishida never loses sight of his theme: the irreducibility and unobjectifiability of the act of self-consciousness which constitutes the self. Extensive annotation is provided for the first time in any edition of Nishida's work. Historians of Japanese philosophy and culture, and all those interested in the interaction of Eastern and Western thought-forms, now have a document which highlights many of the cultural, psychological, and intellectual dynamics that have shaped Japanese intellectual life in one of its most fascinating and ambitious manifestations.

This collection has its origins in four interdisciplinary workshops, one held annually at the Berlin School of Mind and Brain from 2010-2012 (Origins of Self-Consciousness I-III, Workshop on Pre-Reflective Self-Consciousness), and one at the Zentrum für interdisziplinäre Forschung (ZiF) in Bielefeld in 2013 (Self-Representationalism, Pre-Reflectivity, and Mental Impairment). This original interdisciplinary approach, especially the dialogue with neuroscientists and psychiatrists, has been retained in this collection. However, the collection has been enlarged by a number of solicited contributions that highlight special aspects of the core theme: self-consciousness.

Intuition to Fruition: From My Inside to My Outside tells the author’s story of surviving suicide. In her own words, author Leanne Bourgeois says: I hope to save lives by providing my personal story. My book is a self-reflection, introspection type of piece, based on my experience with health issues and trauma. I hope to offer the insights I’ve learned, along with my journey to help others struggling with feeling stuck or that there’s no step they can take. At first, I wrote this for me. I put these words together on paper to help me grieve, heal, and chart my experience. Then I got the idea that I could potentially help someone else by revealing my personal story. I talked with a friend about publishing my book, feeling concerned with the response of how personally revealing my story would be. She said, “Please publish this for my brother. He needs your story to help him.” I realized I may be a vessel for others needing help and could possibly save the life of someone facing similar thoughts of suicide. I dealt with many obstacles. These ranged from my own self-esteem, pride, ego, caring what others would think, a concussion, my physical and mental health, a family death, going through divorce, and financial problems. In the end, I felt relieved and proud I created this book.

The Origins Of Modern Japanese Philosophy written by Richard Stone and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-05-16 with Philosophy categories.

Nishida Kitaro is widely considered as the first original philosopher in modern Japan. Addressing this claim, Richard Stone critically examines Nishida's relation to his contemporary philosophers in the Meiji era (1868-1912), highlighting the continuity, difference and relationships between them. Stone reassesses the notion that Nishida's An Inquiry into the Good (1911) was substantially more philosophically worthwhile than any preceding attempts at philosophy in Japan, whilst demonstrating how his early ideas were heavily influenced by the work of thinkers such as Inoue Enryo, Onishi Hajime and Miyake Setsurei. He argues that original philosophy in Japan did not suddenly start with Nishida. Instead, it developed within a process of methodological refinement, wherein ideas starting from early Meiji philosophers were gradually given more rigorous treatment over the course of the era, eventually culminating in Nishida's early philosophy. Providing an in-depth analysis of Nishida's work that brings it into dialogue with his predecessors, The Origins of Modern Japanese Philosophy offers both an engaging insight into the Meiji Period as the background of Nishida's philosophical formation and also a clear account of how several core themes in modern Japanese philosophy evolved over the course of an era.
