"Effective regulation is essential to a well-functioning economy and helps create a safe and just society. Regulations provide governments with a powerful means of achieving social, environmental and economic goals. However, regulation also imposes administrative and compliance burdens on business, consumers, government and the wider community. In recent times, business groups have expressed concern that there is too much regulation and that it is too costly. They have also expressed concern about excessive, overlapping, duplicative, inconsistent and complex regulation. Where these burdens are unnecessary, they can impede competition, productivity, investment and innovation. In response to these concerns, the NSW Government has asked the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal of NSW (the Tribunal) to undertake an overarching review of the regulation that affects the NSW community."--P. 1.

As part of that commitment, the NSW Government asked the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) to investigate any unnecessary regulatory burden imposed on business and the community in New South Wales, and to make recommendations to reduce that burden. On 5 October 2006, IPART provided the final report of its Investigation into the Burden of Regulation and Improving Regulatory Efficiency to the Government. On 9 November 2006, the Government released an initial response to IPART's report, indicating in-principle support for IPART's proposals for strengthening and reinvigorating regulatory processes in New South Wales, and undertaking to provide a detailed response to each of IPART's specific recommendations for reform. This final response to recommendations 1 - 16 provides an overview of the NSW Government's new framework for regulation making and the review of regulation.

Reputation Risk And Globalisation written by Terry O’Callaghan and has been published by Edward Elgar Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-10-28 with Business & Economics categories.

Recently, multinational corporations have begun to reinvent themselves as socially responsible actors, largely in response to anti-corporate activist pressure. The author argues that a concern with corporate reputation is leading to an ideational shift in corporate behaviour – in essence, it is disciplining their behaviour. This innovative exploration of the idea of a self-regulating corporation in an era of globalisation first examines the link between corporate reputation, corporate behaviour and self-regulation, and then goes on to compare and contrast various studies of multinational corporations that have sought to self-regulate. Terry O’Callaghan includes a multifaceted critique of anti-corporate activists. This acknowledges both the dangers that multinational corporations pose to communities, and that anti-corporate activists are the first group to understand the potential risk of targeted campaigns to corporate reputations. He also illustrates his points using three case studies of companies that have attempted to self-regulate: Royal Dutch Shell, the Toyota Motor Corporation and Interface Inc. Undergraduate and postgraduate students of international business, management and business ethics will be interested in the essential topics covered in this book. Academics and practitioners alike will appreciate its accessible lessons about reputational capital and holding multinational corporations accountable.

Environmental Crime In Transnational Context written by Toine Spapens and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-06-10 with Law categories.

Environmental crime is one of the most profitable and fastest growing areas of international criminal activity. The increasing cross-border scope of environmental crimes and harms is one of the reasons why governments and the enforcement community have trouble in finding the proper responses. Law enforcement cooperation between western industrialized states is often time consuming and problematic, and the problems increase exponentially when environmental criminals take advantage of situations where government and law enforcement are weak. This book provides an overview of the developments and problems in the field of transnational environmental crimes and harms, addressing these issues from perspectives such as enforcement, deterrence, compliance and emission trading schemes. Divided into four parts, the authors consider global issues in green criminology, responses to transnational environmental crimes and harms, alternative methods to combat environmental crime, and specific types of crimes and criminological research. Discussing these topics from the view of green criminology, sociology and governance, this book will be of great interest to all those concerned about the transnational dimensions of crime and the environment.
