Der Satz, der uns heute mit geschwellter Brust aufhören lässt, ist nicht nur positiv zu sehen. Hamburgs Entwicklung zu einem wichtigen Wirtschaftsstandort und Handelsplatz für die ganze Welt wurde maßgeblich durch die europäische Kolonialexpansion beeinflusst. Im Stadtbild Hamburgs ist dieser Einfluss auch zu finden. So gibt es auffällig viele kolonial geprägte Straßennamen, das Schimmelmanndenkmal oder die Lettow-Vorbeck Kaserne. Weniger bekannt dagegen ist der „Tansania Park“ mit den Askari-Reliefs in Jenfeld auf dem Gelände der Lettow-Vorbeck Kaserne. Ziel einer gelebten Erinnerungskultur sollte es sein, kritisch mit der Vergangenheit umzugehen, aber auch ein geeignetes Verhältnis zwischen Gedenken und Mahnen zu schaffen. [...] Denn „postkoloniale Erinnerungsarbeit begnügt sich nicht damit, auf die Vergangenheit zu schauen.“ Vielmehr spürt sie auch den kolonialen Prägungen in unseren jetzigen Vorstellungen nach und versucht sie zu dekonstruieren.“ Die Antwort, ob Hamburg der Auftrag gelingt, scheint einfach, sobald man die seit 2002 anhaltende Debatte um den sogenannten „Tansania Park“ betrachtet.[...] Bis heute wurde der Park nicht offiziell eröffnet und eine Beteiligung der Regierung Tansanias bleibt aus den eben dargestellten Gründen natürlich aus. Im Rahmen des Seminars „Postkoloniales Erinnern in transkulturellen Räumen“ fand sich der nötige Raum, über die gelungene oder nicht gelungene Positionierung des „Tansania Parks“ und die De-Konstruktion der Askari-Reliefs nachzudenken. Innerhalb des Seminars fand unter anderem die Überlegung statt, im Rahmen einer geschichtlichen Unterrichtssequenz das Thema „Deutscher Kolonialismus“ nach geschichtsdidaktischen Anforderungen aufzuarbeiten. Im Folgenden soll beschrieben werden, inwieweit eine kurze Unterrichtssequenz von circa drei bis vier Stunden geeignet ist, in einer neunten Klasse, Mittelstufe, historisches Lernen zu fördern. Die theoretische Grundlage, wie historisches Lernen erfolgen sollte, bildet das Kompetenz-Strukturmodell historischen Denkens von Andreas Körber und Waltraud Schreiber, welches im Hauptteil näher erläutert wird. Weiterhin wird auf die zunehmende Bedeutung interkulturellen Lernens im Geschichtsunterricht eingegangen.
