Molten Salts And Ionic Liquids written by Marcelle Gaune-Escard and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-03-22 with Science categories.

For many years, the related fields of molten salts and ionic liquids have drifted apart, to their mutual detriment. Both molten salts and ionic liquids are liquid salts containing only ions - all that is different is the temperature! Both fields involve the study of Coulombic fluids for academic and industrial purposes; both employ the same principles; both require skilled practitioners; both speak the same language; all then that is truly different is their semantics, and how superficial is that? The editors of this book, recognising that there was so much knowledge, both empirical and theoretical, which can be passed from the molten salt community to the ionic liquid community, and vice versa, organised a landmark meeting in Tunisia, designed to bridge the gap and heal the rift. Leaders from both communities met for a week for a mutual exchange, with a high tutorial content intermixed with cutting edge findings. This volume is a condensate of the principal offerings of that week, and emphasises the success which was achieved. Indeed, four future biannual meetings, under the title of “EUCHEM Conferences on Molten Salts and Ionic Liquids”, have now been planned as a direct result of this meeting of minds. Topics discussed in this volume include structure, dynamics, electrochemistry, interfacial and thermodynamic properties, spectroscopy, synthesis, and theoretical studies. Experimental and theoretical methods for investigating these data are elaborated, as are techniques for data collection and analysis. This book represents the first serious discussion on the transfer of these methods and techniques between the differing temperature regimes, and is a major contribution to the future of both fields.

Industrial Arene Chemistry Explore the wide array of uses for aromatic hydrocarbons in this comprehensive reference Aromatics are a class of compounds—normally but not exclusively organic—which tend to be produced as by-products of various industrial processes. Their importance as petrochemical materials in themselves, along with the range of inter-relations between different aromatic chemicals, creates a complex and opportunity-filled market for aromatics. Industrial Arene Chemistry provides a thorough look at the conventional techniques required to use and produce these aromatic hydrocarbons. Beginning with an overview of the global aromatic market—including, but not limited to, manufacturers, markets of BTX, and downstream functional aromatics, aromatics derived from renewable sources, and economic forecasts—the book will also explore the impact shifting environmental factors will have on the future of aromatic chemistry. The text further explores BTX production processes differentiated according to the raw materials used. Importantly, this will establish the importance and growth of the biobased chemical industry. Industrial Arene Chemistry readers will also find: Case studies that describe major elements of specific technologies prototyped by contributors/companies as part of ongoing market development efforts Process chapters that include summaries of the conventional techniques and a more detailed discussion of recent high-impact studies Recent advances in conventional aromatic reactions, including alkylation, acylation and carboxylation, hydrogenation/reduction, oxidation, nitration/amination, sulfonation, and halogenation Industrial Arene Chemistry is a useful reference for chemists and chemical engineers who work with aromatics.

The demand for increasingly clean and efficient chemical syntheses is becoming more urgent from both an economic and an environmental standpoint. Many technologies rely on large quantities of hazardous even toxic solvents. A promising and now established approach is the development of new, ionic solvents that are fluid at room temperature. These solvents not only have the potential to increase chemical reactivity and thus lead to more efficient processes, but are also non-flammable and are less toxic than conventional solvents due to their low vapor pressure. This volume brings together the latest developments in this fascinating field, supplemented by numerous practical tips, and thus provides those working in both research and industry with an indispensable source of information.

Polyelectrolytes And Nanoparticles written by Joachim Koetz and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-02-20 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Polyelectrolytes, i. e. , water-soluble polymers with a lot of dissociating functional groups, and nanoparticles, i. e. , ?ne particles with diameters on the nanometer scale, are two substance classes of growing interest. Both polyelectrolytes and nanoparticles can be found in many industrial applications such as in paints, - per coatings, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals. For adjusting the properties of such multicomponent systems, the knowledge of the macromolecular and electroch- ical features of the polyelectrolytes on the one hand, and the size and shape of the nanoparticles on the other hand is essential. Understanding the basic principles involved in the preparation of nanoparticles and control of the interparticle interaction forces by adsorbing polyelectrolytes is therefore crucial, both from a scienti?c and application oriented point of view. Over the last years, the term nanotechnology, which refers to the technology that produces nanosize particles, has been established, and a new fast-growing market has been born. The pioneers in this ?eld were the alchemists, who were already able in the 16th century to produce colloidal gold, however, without kno- edge of the scienti?c background of the formulation process. Today, of course, we know much more about the colloidal metal nanoparticles, but still some questions are open. Therefore, especially the formation, characterization, and stabilization of gold nanoparticles as a nanoscalic model system in presence of polyelectrolytes, is discussed here in more detail.

?? Giant molecules are important in our everyday life. But, as pointed out by the authors, they are also associated with a culture. What Bach did with the harpsichord, Kuhn and Flory did with polymers. We owe a lot of thanks to those who now make this music accessible ??Pierre-Gilles de GennesNobel Prize laureate in Physics(Foreword for the 1st Edition, March 1996)This book describes the basic facts, concepts and ideas of polymer physics in simple, yet scientifically accurate, terms. In both scientific and historic contexts, the book shows how the subject of polymers is fascinating, as it is behind most of the wonders of living cell machinery as well as most of the newly developed materials. No mathematics is used in the book beyond modest high school algebra and a bit of freshman calculus, yet very sophisticated concepts are introduced and explained, ranging from scaling and reptations to protein folding and evolution. The new edition includes an extended section on polymer preparation methods, discusses knots formed by molecular filaments, and presents new and updated materials on such contemporary topics as single molecule experiments with DNA or polymer properties of proteins and their roles in biological evolution.
