Attorney Sasha McCandless is back in Irretrievably Broken, another fast-paced legal thriller by USA TODAY Bestselling Author Melissa F. Miller! The venerable law firm of Prescott & Talbott is reeling from the murder of partner Ellen Mortenson -- purportedly at the hands of her estranged husband -- when a photograph of the dead woman arrives, her face Xed out and "ONE DOWN" scrawled across the bottom. Within days, a second partner is murdered, her husband also accused. Sasha doesn't practice criminal defense, so she's suspicious when her former firm asks her to represent Ellen's husband. Owing Prescott a favor, she takes the case and soon finds herself representing not one, but both, of the so-called Lady Lawyer Killers. The long hours jeopardize her relationship with Leo Connelly when he needs her most. That's the least of Sasha's troubles, though, because what she doesn't know is that the real killer is waging a vendetta for a past case gone wrong. And there's one more lawyer on his list. This book was written as a way for me to vent. Since the beginning of the break down of my marriage, my feelings have been all over the place... one minute I am sad, the next I am okay and able to laugh, and then the next I am so upset that I cannot think, eat, or sleep. This marriage and the coming divorce may be my breaking point, but I am trying so hard to keep my head above water. With this book, it will begin a series that is nonfiction and very real. This book will focus on the things that can break down a marriage and I will go into the details of how my own marriage is breaking down. I will go into details about how I know I messed up, but also do not feel that I should be getting punished in this way. I still believed up until the end that my marriage could be saved, and that is just what I managed to do.

Judge Atticus Zenas has seen too much from his front-row seat in a Lexington, Kentucky family court. For ten years he has watched the slow-motion death of marriage. He has seen families fall apart, destroyed by abuse, neglect, drugs, divorce, crime, cruelty and indifference. As he struggles every day in court to pick up the pieces and protect helpless children, he is on the ragged edge of falling apart himself. This novel is drawn from real life. The tragedy of fatherlessness. The hazards of co-habitation. The damage to children. The casual ease of drive-through divorce. And the sadness that God's greatest gift to mankind - marriage -- is in alarming decline. Amidst the daily chaos of family court, "Judge Z" takes a journey of discovery to find the lost meaning of marriage-as God's best metaphor for His relationship with us. Through bizarre court cases, law school classes, Sundays at a country church, lessons from a wise mother, a trip to India, and a trial that could destroy his career, he asks the question that confronts America: Is marriage "irretrievably broken"? The surprising answer is cause for hope.

Family Law In America written by Sanford N. Katz and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-07-01 with Law categories.

For many years family law was viewed as a study of the regulation of relationships of husband and wife and parent and child. Both relationships were clearly defined. In the case of husband and wife, it was through formal legal procedures or informal arrangements called marriage. In the case of parent and child it was either through biology or adoption. Equally defined were the stages by which these relationships were established, maintained, and terminated. By the close of the twentieth century, basic questions about who should be officially designated a family member and by what procedure were being raised both in the legislature and in litigation. In addition, conventional models that had defined domestic relations such as marriage, divorce, and adoption were either being expanded to include contemporary patterns of living arrangements and the current reality or new models were being constructed. In Family Law in America, Professor Sanford N. Katz examines the present state of family law in America. Themes include the tension between individual autonomy and governmental regulation in all aspects of family law, the extent to which relationships established before marriage are being regulated, and how marriage is being redefined to take into account equality of the sexes. It demonstrates how the definition of marriage as a partnership in which the individual spouse's rights are recognized has resulted in protection of the vulnerable spouse and examines fault and no-fault divorce procedures and the extent to which these procedures reflect social realities. This volume describes state intervention into the parent and child relationship and how this is reflected in the reexamination of the privacy of the family unit. It concludes with a discussion of the conventional model of adoption of children and how additional models are being developed to take into account new family forms.
