Moreover, these years are the time when families’ beliefs about their children’s abilities are shaped and when children’s own academic self-concepts begin to form. Therefore, management of family involvement in the early childhood education matters for young children’s cognitive and social development, and learning. The ultimate goal of management at any level of education is the attainment of children’s learning and holistic children development. Therefore, early childhood education should be structured and managed in such a way that family members are involved to facilitate children’s holistic development and learning. That is, the early childhood context should be supportive and effective for family involvement in the early childhood education to enable children acquire appropriate social and cognitive skills. It should be noted that management of early childhood education is a critical issue as it involves golden age of intellectual curiosity and development of the children. Family is the major component for children growth and development in all aspects it interacts with children throughout their life. The research studies link effective family involvement in early childhood education with good children’s outcomes. Children’s outcomes are likely to include social competence, cognitive development, communication skills, literacy development, vocabulary growth, expressive language, comprehension skills and positive engagement with peers, adults, and learning. Therefore, this work supports the ideas that decision to invest in family support and education services is an effective way to promote early childhood learning. Family needs strong support and education programs that improve their involvement in children's early learning experiences at home and that connect families to important community services. In addition, these efforts also require that schools are ready to meet each child's needs and continue to maximize opportunities to engage families in their children's education and well-being in preschools and beyond.

Decades of research have demonstrated that the parent-child dyad and the environment of the familyâ€"which includes all primary caregiversâ€"are at the foundation of children's well- being and healthy development. From birth, children are learning and rely on parents and the other caregivers in their lives to protect and care for them. The impact of parents may never be greater than during the earliest years of life, when a child's brain is rapidly developing and when nearly all of her or his experiences are created and shaped by parents and the family environment. Parents help children build and refine their knowledge and skills, charting a trajectory for their health and well-being during childhood and beyond. The experience of parenting also impacts parents themselves. For instance, parenting can enrich and give focus to parents' lives; generate stress or calm; and create any number of emotions, including feelings of happiness, sadness, fulfillment, and anger. Parenting of young children today takes place in the context of significant ongoing developments. These include: a rapidly growing body of science on early childhood, increases in funding for programs and services for families, changing demographics of the U.S. population, and greater diversity of family structure. Additionally, parenting is increasingly being shaped by technology and increased access to information about parenting. Parenting Matters identifies parenting knowledge, attitudes, and practices associated with positive developmental outcomes in children ages 0-8; universal/preventive and targeted strategies used in a variety of settings that have been effective with parents of young children and that support the identified knowledge, attitudes, and practices; and barriers to and facilitators for parents' use of practices that lead to healthy child outcomes as well as their participation in effective programs and services. This report makes recommendations directed at an array of stakeholders, for promoting the wide-scale adoption of effective programs and services for parents and on areas that warrant further research to inform policy and practice. This study aimed to examine fathers’ involvement in a continuity of care setting as well as center staff strategies for promoting fathers’ involvement in early childhood education. Participants in this study included 15 fathers and 5 staff in a university-based preschool in Southern California (The San Diego State University Children’s Center). In order to gain a better understanding of how fathers are involved in their young children’s education, participants were asked to report their beliefs and practices regarding father involvement through a brief survey. Results indicated that 100% of participants (both fathers and staff) believe that it is important for fathers to be involved in their child’s early education. Participants identified four specific benefits: children are more likely to seek out both fathers and mothers for help when fathers are more involved, fathers play an important role in exposing children to different perspective, father involvement leads to stronger attachment bonds between fathers and their children, and fathers appreciate being able to be a role model for their children. Participants also identified three barriers that prevent fathers from being involved in early education: a restrictive work schedule, traditional societal expectations about the roles of mothers and fathers in children’s early education, and the impact of divorce on fathers’ ability to engage as often as they would like. Finally, participants shared multiple strategies to help early educators promote further father involvement in early education.

This thesis project explored parent education topics and involvement opportunities of interest to a group of fathers of young children. Eighteen fathers from of a private, college-based preschool program, serving campus and community families, with children from age 2 to age 5, participated. The goal was to uncover and develop resources for fathers with young children and examine effective strategies for the program to involve fathers. Using two exploratory pilot meetings, fathers identified several topics of interest and discussed their preferences for involvement in the preschool program. For example, the topic of greatest interest was how to support children's development of emotional regulation. The fathers also expressed interest in involvement opportunities such as ongoing meetings with other fathers, parenting meetings for all parents, and volunteering in their child's classroom. Fathers indicated that they were eager to viii be involved but need more information and support regarding their options. The fathers' ideas suggested a multi-pronged plan for supporting and engaging fathers. Father involvement initiatives include: a parenting workshop on supporting children's development of emotional regulation, a fatherhood group that meets several times throughout the year, a comprehensive survey of all fathers in the program, which alerts them to the full range of involvement opportunities, and a series of staff training sessions to build the staff's knowledge and skills in father engagement/involvement. The thesis project suggests father involvement approaches which can be implemented over the school year. Implications for early childhood programs and potential directions for future research are also discussed.
