What is Islam? Who can give a better answer than Muhammad, Prophet of Islam, peace be on him, himself? In a celebrated report, recorded by Bukhari and all the collections of Hadith, it is mentioned as follows: In the last days of the life of the Prophet, one day an unknown visitor came to see him and put to him four questions: What is iman (faith), what is Islam (submission), what is ihsan (best method), and when will come the end of the world? As to Faith, he replied: one should believe in God, in His heavenly agents, in His books (or: prescriptions), in His human messengers (or: prophets), in the Dooms day and in the fact that good and evil, all is determined by God. Regarding Submission, he said: belief in God, daily services of worship-prayer, fasting in the month of Ramadan, paying the zakat-tax, and pilgrimage to the House of God (in Mecca). The Best method, said he, of doing the duty is that you render your duty unto God as if you see Him present; although you do not see Him, yet He sees you. For the last question, regarding the moment of the end of the world, which is an elucidation of part of the reply to the first question, his answer was: I do not know it better than you, (the day is coming yet none other than God knows when). When the visitor went away, the Prophet said: It was Gabriel who had come to teach you your religion.

From one of today’s leading Muslim scholars, this compelling look at how the Prophet Muhammad has been portrayed throughout the centuries offers a fascinating history of the diversity of Islamic cultures and beliefs. The Prophet Muhammad has been revered for more than fifteen centuries. Today, one in five people throughout the world calls for daily praises and blessings upon him and holds him up as a model of virtue. In IMAGES OF MUHAMMAD, Tarif Khalidi examines the ways Muhammad has been depicted and revered from the immediate aftermath of his death to the present day. With scholarly authority, Khalidi explores how the “biography” of Muhammad has been constructed, reconstructed, and utilized in various Islamic cultures, and traces the influences that have shaped his image, including the profound effect of negative perceptions promulgated by the West. As he describes the great variety of Islamic beliefs and practices, Khalidi illuminates the values and ideas shared by the Sunni, Shia, and Sufi sects, as well as the differences among them, providing Western readers with a clear, objective perspective on the current conflicts within the Muslim world as well as their global repercussions. From the Hardcover edition.

Islam In Denmark written by Jørgen S. Nielsen and has been published by Lexington Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012 with History categories.

Little has been published in English about Islam in Denmark although interest grew after the cartoons crisis of 2005-6. Danish research on the subject is extensive, and this volume aims to present some of the most recent to an international audience. While many of the circumstances which apply across western Europe -- the history of immigration and refugees, settlement, the growth of Muslim organizations and international links, challenges of social and cultural encounter, and more recently Islam as a security issue -- also apply in Denmark, there are also differences. A small, compact country with no recent imperial history, Denmark's unified institutional, religious and social culture can make it difficult for newcomers to integrate. The fourteen chapters in this book cover the topic in three parts. The first part deals with the history and statistics of immigration and settlement, and the religious institutional responses, Christian and Muslim. Part two looks at specific issues and the interaction with the developing national debate about identity and minority. Finally part three presents the experience of four active participants in the processes of integration: youth work and hospital chaplaincy, interreligious dialogue, and the views of an imam.
