The recourse of anti-Islamic respectively anti-Muslim attitudes serves to be a starting point for many political movements and demagogues to generate attention as well as affirmation, as the sociological developments especially since the year of 2015 evidently demonstrate. Notwithstanding that this phenomenon is by no means entirely new, since anti-Islamic and anti-Muslim sentiments can be traced back into the past in a variety of ways. Islamophobia can be defined as the fear of or prejudiced viewpoint towards Islam, Muslims and matters pertaining to them. In 2004 France banned Muslim women from wearing veils in school. In 2010 France passed legislation that banned the wearing of clothing in public that covered the face, mainly to target women who wore burqas. President Emmanuel Macron has stated that the hijab is not in accordance with French ideals.
