The HIP process was originally devised for diffusion bonding of nuclear fuel elements at Battelle Memorial Institute in the United States in the mid-1950s. This innovative technique has been a subject of global research and development, and was applied to the cemented carbide industry at the end of the 1960s by ASEAj Sandvik. Since then this process has been applied to many kinds of industrial materials, including tool steel, superalloys and electronic and ceramic materials. In very recent years, HIPing technology has been applied even to R& D of high temperature superconducting materials and of a composite process with self combustion reaction. On this occasion we should recognize that the 3rd HIP Conference was held in the midst of such progress of HIP technology, and that it was the first international conference which was held in Asia in the field of HIP and CIP technologies. The conference was very successful, with about 250 participants from 13 countries, including Japan. About 90 presentations, including nine invited lecturers, 44 oral and 35 poster presentations, were offered, and all contributions were at a high level and contained valuable results which had been attained in recent years.

Ceramic Materials: Science and Engineering is an up-to-date treatment of ceramic science, engineering, and applications in a single, integrated text. Building on a foundation of crystal structures, phase equilibria, defects and the mechanical properties of ceramic materials, students are shown how these materials are processed for a broad diversity of applications in today's society. Concepts such as how and why ions move, how ceramics interact with light and magnetic fields, and how they respond to temperature changes are discussed in the context of their applications. References to the art and history of ceramics are included throughout the text. The text concludes with discussions of ceramics in biology and medicine, ceramics as gemstones and the role of ceramics in the interplay between industry and the environment. Extensively illustrated, the text also includes questions for the student and recommendations for additional reading. KEY FEATURES: Combines the treatment of bioceramics, furnaces, glass, optics, pores, gemstones, and point defects in a single text Provides abundant examples and illustrations relating theory to practical applications Suitable for advanced undergraduate and graduate teaching and as a reference for researchers in materials science Written by established and successful teachers and authors with experience in both research and industry

Metal Shaping Processes written by Vukota Boljanovic and has been published by Industrial Press Inc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009 with Business & Economics categories.

As the only comprehensive text focusing on metal shaping processes, which are still the most widely used processes in the manufacture of products and structures, Metal Shaping Processes carefully presents the fundamentals of metal shaping processes with their relevant applications. The treatment of the subject matter is adequately descriptive for those unfamiliar with the various processes and yet is sufficiently analytical for an introductory academic course in manufacturing. The text, as well as the numerous formulas and illustrations in each chapter, clearly show that shaping processes, as a part of manufacturing engineering, are a complex and interdisciplinary subject. The topics are organized and presented in such a manner that they motivate and challenge students to present technically and economically viable solutions to a wide variety of questions and problems, including product design. It is the perfect textbook for students in mechanical, industrial, and manufacturing engineering programs at both the Associate Degree and Bachelor Degree programs, as well a valuable reference for manufacturing engineers (those who design, execute and maintain the equipment and tools); process engineers (those who plan and engineer the manufacturing steps, equipment, and tooling needed in production); manufacturing managers and supervisors; product design engineers; and maintenance and reliability managers and technicians. Features Each chapter begins with a brief highlighted outline of the topics to be described. Carefully presents the fundamentals of the particular metal-shaping process with its relevant applications within each chapter, so that the student and teacher can clearly assess the capabilities, limitation, and potentials of the process and its competitive aspects. Features sections on product design considerations, which present guidelines on design for manufacturing in many of the chapters. Offers practical, understandable explanations, even for complex processes. Includes text entries that are coded as in an outline, with these numerical designations carried over the 320 related illustrations for easy cross-referencing. Provides a dual (ISO and USA) unit system. Contains end-of-chapter Review Questions. Includes a chapter on sheet metalworking covering cutting processes; bending process; tubes and pipe bending; deep drawing processes; other sheet metal forming process (stretch forming, spinning, rubber forming, and superplatic forming and diffusion bonding). Provides a useful die classification with 15 illustrations and description; presses for sheet metalworking; and high energy-rate forming processes. A chapter on nontraditional manufacturing process discusses such important processes as mechanical energy processes (ultrasonic machining, water jet cutting); electrochemical machining processes (electrochemical machining, electrochemical grinding); thermal energy processes (electric discharge processes, laser beam machining, electron beam machining); and chemical processes (chemical milling).

Modern Ceramic Engineering written by David Richerson and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-11-04 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Ceramic materials have proven increasingly important in industry and in the fields of electronics, communications, optics, transportation, medicine, energy conversion and pollution control, aerospace, construction, and recreation. Professionals in these fields often require an improved understanding of the specific ceramics materials they are using. Modern Ceramic Engineering, Third Edition helps provide this by introducing the interrelationships between the structure, properties, processing, design concepts, and applications of advanced ceramics. This student-friendly textbook effectively links fundamentals and fabrication requirements to a wide range of interesting engineering application examples. A follow-up to our best-selling second edition, the new edition now includes the latest and most important technological advances in the field. The author emphasizes how ceramics differ from metals and organics and encourages the application of this knowledge for optimal materials selection and design. New topics discuss the definition of ceramics, the combinations of properties fulfilled by ceramics, the evolution of ceramics applications, and their importance in modern civilization. A new chapter provides a well-illustrated review of the latest applications using ceramics and discusses the design requirements that the ceramics must satisfy for each application. The book also updates its chapter on ceramic matrix composites and adds a new section on statistical process control to the chapter on quality assurance. Modern Ceramic Engineering, Third Edition offers a complete and authoritative introduction and reference to the definition, history, structure, processing, and design of ceramics for students and engineers using ceramics in a wide array of industries.

High pressure technology is used so extensively that it is almost impossible to catalogue the manyways in which our lives are enhanced by it. From pneumatic tires and household water supplies tomaterials such as crystals, plastics, and even synthetic diamond, there are countless materialsfabricated or shaped using high pressure technology. High Pressure Technology (in two volumes)presents the most up-to-date information available on the main features of this broad technology andthe processes which utilize it.Volume I: Equipment Design, Materials, and Properties covers three broad areas: the general operationof high pressure systems, including standard operating procedures and safety codes and measures;the technology of high pressure systems, such as components, vessel design, and materials of construction;and applied science at high pressure, including the properties of fluids and solids andmechanical properties. Volume II: Applications and Processes covers processes at high pressure andencompasses such topics as: catalytic chemical synthesis; polymerization; phase changes; criticalphenomena; liquefaction of gases; synthesis of single-crystal materials, diamond, and superhardmaterials; isostatic compacting; isostatic hot-pressing; hydrostatic forming of metals; hydraulic cutting;and applications of shock techniques.Written by recognized authorities in industry, government laboratories, and universities, High PressureTechnology is essential reading for the industrial practitioner, high pressure engineer, and researchscientist. In addition, it is a valuable textbook for students in mechanical, chemical, and materialsengineering courses.
