Israel Bodkin's journey began when he was a youngster and fled Lithuania just before the Nazis arrived. After fifty years in New York City he thinks he understands the boundaries of his life. But now his beloved wife is dead, and his family lives in Miami, a place Israel imagines as the New Babylon, a center of luxury, license, and wickedness. When his son insists he come to live with him, Israel reluctantly begins the next stage of his life's passage. He enters a world of bi-racial, tri-ethnic chaos he never bargained for. But all things are possible in the New Babylon. Israel discovers an unlikely new career as a radio talk show host and becomes a reluctant political activist. Interaction with a sometimes manic collection of new friends affirms what he already knows-that life is about making demands and fulfilling commitments. What you can't always predict are the consequences. Israel's story is as old as history and as new as today's headlines, and his adventures will move you to laughter and to tears.

This guide, based on first-hand, day-by-day survival of over three decades in Israel, will help you to first understand, then gradually accept, and eventually almost conform to the Israeli mentality, which in turn will enable you to first look like, then gradually behave like, and eventually almost become a real Israeli. With tongue firmly in cheek, the author takes some affectionate, punning jabs at his adoptive homeland's language, people, lifestyle, and land.

Examining the “social laboratory” of the Israeli and Palestinian societies to better understand social conflicts and the construction of diverse and conflicting collective narratives, this book gives readers a window into Professor Shifra Sagy’s unique approach to intergroup conflicts and peace education. With a focus on both theory and practice, it describes the model of perceptions of collective narratives that she developed with her colleagues. The contributions here offer insight into the intergroup conflicts between Israelis and Palestinians, Palestinian Muslims and Christians, Jewish ‘National Religious’ and people of ultra-Orthodox faith, and Palestinians living in Israel and those living in the West Bank. Perceptions of collective narratives help crystallize social identity, a sense of community and national coherence, and a culture of conflict. Often this creates obstacles to peace and conflict resolution. This book instead looks at how we can use these constructions to promote reconciliation.

Hezbollah written by Matthew Levitt and has been published by Georgetown University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-09-03 with Political Science categories.

Hezbollah: The Global Footprint of Lebanon's Party of God is the first thorough examination of Hezbollah’s covert activities beyond Lebanon’s borders, including its financial and logistical support networks and its criminal and terrorist operations worldwide. Hezbollah—Lebanon’s "Party of God"—is a multifaceted organization: It is a powerful political party in Lebanon, a Shia Islam religious and social movement, Lebanon’s largest militia, a close ally of Iran, and a terrorist organization. Drawing on a wide range of sources, including recently declassified government documents, court records, and personal interviews with intelligence and law enforcement officials around the world, Matthew Levitt examines Hezbollah’s beginnings, its first violent forays in Lebanon, and then its terrorist activities and criminal enterprises abroad in Europe, the Middle East, South America, Southeast Asia, Africa, and finally in North America. Levitt also describes Hezbollah’s unit dedicated to supporting Palestinian militant groups and Hezbollah’s involvement in training and supporting insurgents who fought US troops in post-Saddam Iraq. The book concludes with a look at Hezbollah’s integral, ongoing role in Iran’s shadow war with Israel and the West, including plots targeting civilians around the world. Levitt shows convincingly that Hezbollah’s willingness to use violence at home and abroad, its global reach, and its proxy-patron relationship with the Iranian regime should be of serious concern. Hezbollah is an important book for scholars, policymakers, students, and the general public interested in international security, terrorism, international criminal organizations, and Middle East studies.
