The aims of this second volume of Case Studies in Management and Business remain unchanged from the first volume. Realizing the importance of using case study as one of the student-centered learning approach, this book is designed to enhance learning and teaching activities by providing a collection of teaching cases which could be used both for the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. This book includes relatively wide scope of work includes marketing, business policy, IT and Islamic finance. However the field is still in the field of management in general. The target audience is an academician and management students. In general, this book meets the scope of management. It is also suitable for an academician and students, but may not be appropriate in using for certain course, because of its scope is geared to specific disciplines. This book has the potential, especially if the university lecturers took it to be discussed in their classes. There is least amount of case use Malaysia environment in the market. The cases highlighted also are unique and not similar to the other cases. Furthermore, this book is using a real case in the beginning, especially in our country. In addition, this book is accompanied by teaching notes for each case. These teaching notes are available to instructors only. First to fifth case is ongoing for all cases involving the issue of whether the marketing or the service industry. The second and third cases involving issues on marketing in the nutritional industry. Consequently the third to fifth case involves a service industry that highlight on a unique issues within the companies concerned. The sixth case issues on “muamalat” are not so related to other cases. Since each case is developed by different authors, writing style and technique seem different and may disturb the concentration of the readers. The needs for local and contextual business case studies motivate most of the local case writers to write and compile teaching cases that are interesting and relevant to contemporary business situations and decisions, particularly in Malaysia.

How do members of the new generation praise each other? Do they still adhere to the communication strategies prescribed in their traditional cultural values or modernization has played a role in initiating changes in people’s linguistic behavior? The book addresses the changes in the cultural values that have emerged in the speech acts of compliments and compliment responses of native speakers of Malay in Malaysia. In the field of sociolinguistics, the discussion provides insights into the current practices of the Malay speech acts and linguistic identity among the speakers, especially after 60 years of Malaysia’s independence. The rapid developments in technology and cyber communication have contributed to linguistic innovation and changes in language use to a certain extent, hence calling for a look at its impact on Malay cultural values. Malaysia was once on the cusp of becoming one of the ‘Asian Tigers’ as a result of the impressively high growth rates recorded in the early 1990s. From 1990 until 1997, the growth rate was above 9 percent per annum on average. This performance came to an end when the economy was struck by the 1997/98 Asian Financial Crisis, the worst economic crisis Malaysia has ever experienced since independence. Things eventually worsened with the onslaught of the 2008/09 Global Financial Crisis, which dragged the Malaysian economy yet into another round of a recession with the growth rate contracting at 1.5 percent in 2009. On hindsight, these two events, which have had a substantial impact on the state of the Malaysian economy, pointed to several urgent calls for economic reforms, such as the need to address structural weaknesses of the economy and to have a growth target which is both sustainable as well as inclusive. When Datuk Seri Najib Razak became the sixth Prime Minister of Malaysia from April 2009 until May 2018, it was clear that a new approach to economic development for Malaysia had to be crafted. Towards this end, he introduced the National Transformation Policy (NTP), so that the economy can be transformed into one that is of high-income and developed status by the year 2020. He also set a new vision for Malaysia, also known as the 2050 National Transformation, or TN50, which is meant to chart a new course for Malaysia to move into the second half of the 21st century. How successful is this transformational agenda? What are the other issues and challenges which need to be addressed? What important lessons can we learn from this transformational journey? This book is an attempt to address these specific questions by assessing Najib’s economic plans, policies, programmes and vision which evolved during the nine years of his term as the sixth Prime Minister of Malaysia.

Malaysia’s childcare industry has expanded dramatically over the years. Because of the vital role that formal early childhood education plays, the number of childcare centres in Malaysia has steadily increased and will continue to rise in the future. The expansion and improvement of comprehensive early childhood care and development programmes and services, particularly for the most vulnerable and underprivileged children, is one of the fundamental components of Malaysian childhood education.
