Olympic Education is not only a text book for students and teachers in physical and sport education but also for course instructors and coaches in children`s youth sport programmes, as well as for executives in sports federations. It answers the question, what the term "Olympic" really means in the broader context of the Olympic Games movement and as a global purpose and new challenge for a balanced physical, social and moral education. Olympic Education has a traditional vision and an important future mission that is relevant for all children and youths, in schools as well as in sport clubs. In five parts and fifteen chapters, the book shows why the Olympic ideals are a modern challenge not only for a new physical and sport education but also for the development of essential life skills for today. It introduces pedagogical and didactical fundamentals for an Olympic education, in order to bring motor abilities, social behaviour and moral actions in sports and everyday life back together again - in the mind, learning and actions of children and youths, but also of grown-ups in the social settings where young people live.

Someone Has To Fail written by David F. Labaree and has been published by Harvard University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-03-01 with Education categories.

What do we really want from schools? Only everything, in all its contradictions. Most of all, we want access and opportunity for all children—but all possible advantages for our own. So argues historian David Labaree in this provocative look at the way “this archetype of dysfunction works so well at what we want it to do even as it evades what we explicitly ask it to do.” Ever since the common school movement of the nineteenth century, mass schooling has been seen as an essential solution to great social problems. Yet as wave after wave of reform movements have shown, schools are extremely difficult to change. Labaree shows how the very organization of the locally controlled, administratively limited school system makes reform difficult. At the same time, he argues, the choices of educational consumers have always overwhelmed top-down efforts at school reform. Individual families seek to use schools for their own purposes—to pursue social opportunity, if they need it, and to preserve social advantage, if they have it. In principle, we want the best for all children. In practice, we want the best for our own. Provocative, unflinching, wry, Someone Has to Fail looks at the way that unintended consequences of consumer choices have created an extraordinarily resilient educational system, perpetually expanding, perpetually unequal, constantly being reformed, and never changing much.

"Although sport psychology did not fully mature as a recognized discipline until the 1960s, pioneering psychologists in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, making greater use of empirical research methodologies, sought to understand mental factors that affect athletic performance. Though the psychologists behind the studies described here worked independently of one another and charted their own distinct courses of inquiry, their works, taken together, provided the corpus of precedents and foundations on which the modern field of sport psychology was built. The essays collected in this volume tell the stories not only of these psychologists and their subjects but of the social and academic context that surrounded them, shaping and being shaped by their ideas"--Provided by publisher.
