The First International Conference on Science, Technology and Multicultural Education (ICOCIT-MUDA), initiated by Universitas Pendidikan Muhammadiyah (UNIMUDA) Sorong. It was July 25th-26th, 2019, in Sorong, West Papua, Indonesia. Currently, the Rector of UNIMUDA Sorong is Rustamadji, Ph.D; he is the first rector of the university. He encouraged the Institute of Research, and Community Service to run the academic event. Then, the committee usefully run The First ICOCIT-MUDA as the premier event since the university convert from college to university. The First International Conference ICOCIT-MUDA was the collaboration with Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta, Universitas Prof. Dr. Moestopo (Beragama) and Forum Dosen Indonesia, West Papua. The conference was supported by generosity of Badan Pemeriksa Keuangan RI attend as Keynote Speaker, Prof. Dr. Bahrullah Akbar. Prof. Dr. Joko Harun (Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta, Indonesia) presents a paper as a Keynote Speaker. Moreover, he leads the scientific committee during the paper publication preparation. Dr. Andrianysah (Vice Rector Universitas Prof. Dr. Moestopo (Beragama), also presented a paper on plenary session). The collaboration was supported by Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin, Malaysia (Prof. Dr Dato Yahaya Ibrahim), and Universiti Brunei Darussalam (Prof. Dr. Gamal Abdul Nasir). Both universities send their academician to present paper as keynote speakers. Sekolah Tinggi Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan (STKIP) Muhammadiyah Sorong was established on August 19, 2004. Then, July 5, 2018 converted to Universitas Pendidikan Muhammadiyah Sorong. The Rector explained that the short name is UNIMUDA where the civitas academia is always young and the only one that they have spirit as young people.

Pohon demokrasi jika ditanamkan di atas tanah yang tidak cocok, secara pasti akan membuat pohon itu mati. Kultur yang antiliberal adalah bensin bagi meluasnya konflik horizontal yang berlandaskan agama dan etnis. Tantangan ketiga negara demokrasi baru adalah kurangnya komitmen para pemimpin yang sudah terpilih secara demokratis. Tidak semua pemimpin yang terpilih secara demokratis ingin mengkonsolidasikan demokrasi. Mereka yang ada di pucuk kekuasaan kini memiliki peran amat strategis, baik untuk membangun demokrasi atau menghancurkannya secara perlahan. Godaan kekuasaan memang amat besar. Pribadi yang lemah akan mudah goyaj dan melakukan apa saja untuk tetap bertahan dalam kekuasaannya.

The theme of the conference is "Reconstructing Morals, Education, and Social Sciences for Achieving Sustainable Development Goals". This theme was formulated due to several considerations. First, the symptoms of moral decline that have the potential to destroy the nation. Morals guide humanity towards truth and civilization. The phenomenon of the dehumanization process in the industrial era that pushed people to be part of abstract societies tends to ignore humanity. The education process as a humanitarian system is increasingly marginalized, especially during discussions about the industrial revolution 4.0 and Society 5.0. The conference placed six sub-themes for speakers and participants to share ideas, namely: Social Sciences and Laws, History and Cultural Studies, Interdisciplinary Studies, Morals and Humanities, Policy, Politics, and Communication, Education. The committee has received 195 abstracts from prospective speakers. However, there are only 80 abstracts that are eligible to be presented at this conference.

Kepemimpinan (leadership) bagian dari karakter/kepribadian, dan manusia telah diberikan wewenang untuk memimpin, bahkan menurut kodrat serta irodatnya bahwa manusia dilahirkan untuk menjadi pemimpin. Kepemimpinan (khalifah) adalah suatu proses yang memberi arti pada kerjasama dan dihasilkan dengan kemauan untuk memimpin dalam mencapai tujuan. Dewasa ini, setiap individu sadar akan pentingnya ilmu sebagai petunjuk/alat/panduan untuk memimpin umat manusia yang semakin besar jumlahnya serta kompleks persoalannya. Atas dasar kesadaran itulah dan relevansi dengan upaya proses pembelajaran yang mewajibkan kepada setiap umat manusia untuk mencari ilmu. Dengan demikian upaya tersebut tidak lepas dengan pendidikan, dan tujuan pendidikan tidak akan tercapai secara optimal tanpa adanya manajemen atau pengelolaan pendidikan yang baik, yang selanjutnya dalam kegiatan manajemen pendidikan diperlukan adanya pemimpin yang memiliki kemampuan untuk menjadi seorang pemimpin (Leadership). Guna menyikapi tantangan globalisasi yang ditandai dengan adanya kompetisi global yang sangat ketat dan tajam, di beberapa negara telah berupaya untuk melakukan revitalisasi pendidikan. Revitalisasi ini termasuk pula dalam hal perubahan paradigma kepemimpinan pendidikan, terutama dalam hal pola hubungan atasan-bawahan, yang semula bersifat hierarkis-komando menuju ke arah kemitraan bersama. Pada hubungan atasan-bawahan yang bersifat hierarkis-komando, seringkali menempatkan bawahan sebagai objek tanpa daya. Pemaksaan kehendak dan pragmatis merupakan sikap dan perilaku yang kerap kali mewarnai kepemimpinan komando-birokratik-hierarkis, yang pada akhirnya hal ini berakibat fatal terhadap terbelenggunya sikap inovatif dan kreatif dari setiap bawahan. Dalam melaksanakan tugas dan kewajiban, mereka cenderung bersikap a priori dan bertindak hanya atas dasar perintah sang pemimpin semata. Dengan kondisi demikian, pada akhirnya akan sulit dicapai kinerja yang unggul. Dalam, konteks manajmen pendidikan, peran serta dari seorang pemimpin sangat esensial, terutama dalam memanage, mengkordinasi, serta fungsi-fungsi manajemen lainnya. Dalam konteks itulah buku “Kepemimpinan Pendidikan Islam”, ini hadir diperuntukan bagi para pemimpin/calon pemimpin dan masyrakat pada umumnya.
