An unusually comprehensive city travel guide, It’s EZE London! provides the reader with up to date information on London’s attractions, written in a light and pleasing style with contents grouped into logical chapters which make the reader’s research fun and simple to achieve. Filled with useful details, essential background and historic information, it provides a well balanced view of each place described, allowing the reader to make informed decisions on what, when and how to visit their selected destinations in London. It’s EZE London! does not feature hotels or other accommodation, nor does it list places to eat and drink. We believe that accommodation research is far better served by availability searches on the Internet and, with some 43,000 pubs and restaurants in London, just where do you start! Instead, we focus on providing useful information on London’s many sights and attractions - as well as how to get there. Each attraction listed includes images and location maps which show clearly which other sights or places are located in the immediate vicinity - together with details on nearest Tube stations and, where appropriate, attraction opening times and dates. All in all, a very worthwhile publication.

Meaning Of Justice In African Philosophy written by Grivas Muchineripi Kayange and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-11-27 with Philosophy categories.

The book examines the meaning of justice in African political philosophy, building on the use-theoretical approach. Currently, most of the philosophical works in this context advocate for a communal interpretation of the meaning of justice, such as the 'relational theory of justice' and 'Ubuntu justice as fairness.' The author argues that this foundation of justice in the community undermines the self, which is a major problem with these theories. As an attempt to go beyond communitarianism in African thought, the book recognizes other philosophical frameworks for elaborating the meaning of justice in ordinary people's experience, such as vitalism, theism, ubuntuism, and semantic framework. The author opts for a reconstructed ubuntu-based theory of the meaning of justice that reflects the traditional African experience and recuperates 'valuing self-existence' and 'valuing other-existence' as its foundations. The book further identifies the centrality of rights in defining justice in traditional African communities.

Cornel West And Philosophy written by Clarence Johnson and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-05-01 with Philosophy categories.

Cornel West's reputation as a public and celebrity intellectual has overshadowed his important contributions to philosophy. Professor Clarence Shole Johnson provides a rectification of this situation in this benchmark, thought-provoking book. After a brief biographical sketch, Johnson leads us through a comprehensive examination of West's philosophy from his conceptions of pragmatism, existentialism, Marxism, and Prophetic Christianity to his persuasive writings on black-Jewish relations, affirmative action, and the role of black intellectuals. Special focus is given to West's writings on ethics and social justice, and how these inform his entire theoretical framework. Cornel West and Philosophy is a unique and indispensable guide to West's diverse philosophical writings.

?Basia Spalek has compiled an excellent reader about a much researched and highly sensitive subject. Crucially, she contextualises ethnicity and crime within broadly defined social and intellectual contexts, avoiding the limitation of all too frequently repeated research based solely on statistical measures and policy evaluations.? Simon Holdaway, Professor of Criminology and Sociology, Sheffield University Issues in relation to race and ethnicity have generated substantial and ever-growing interest from, and within, a multitude of academic, research and policy contexts. This book brings together important material in race and ethnic studies and provides different ways of thinking about race and ethnicity in relation to crime and the criminal justice system. Ethnicity and Crime: A Reader consists of a collection of works that capture the main themes that arise from within this vast area of work. It is divided into five sections: ?Race and crime?, racial discrimination and criminal justice The racialisation of crime: Social, political and cultural contexts Race, ethnicity and victimisation Self and discipline reflexivity: Ethnic identities and crime Ethnic identities, institutional reflexivity and crime Each section contains recurring and overlapping themes and includes many different ways of thinking about race and ethnicity in relation to crime. It spans theoretical approaches that might be labelled as positivist, critical race analyses, left realist approaches, feminist, as well as post-modern perspectives. This is the first title in the new series Readings in Criminology and Criminal Justice and follows the series format of thematic sections, together with an editor's introduction to the complete volume and an introduction to each section.

Concept And Application Of Transdisciplinarity In Intellectual Discourse And Research written by Hester du Plessis and has been published by Real African Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-02-01 with Social Science categories.

In the past four decades, transdisciplinarity has gained conceptual and practical traction for its transformative value in accounting for the complex challenges besetting humankind, including social relations and natural ecosystems. The need to develop frameworks for joint problem-solving involving diverse stakeholders is unquestionable. Besides generating inclusivity, which embraces academia, civil society, and policymakers in the public and private sectors, transdisciplinarity allows for the appreciation of phenomena from a multiplicity of angles and affords societies creative ways of seeking solutions to challenges that may appear intractable. This book puts forward alternatives within this arena and attempts to directly respond to the multilayered challenges of diffuse disciplines, interlinked socioeconomic problems, impacts of globalization, technological advancements, environmental concerns, food security, and more.

This four-volume collection of primarily newly transcribed manuscript material brings together sources from both sides of the Atlantic and from a wide variety of regional archives. It is the first collection of its kind, allowing comparisons between the development of the family in England and America during a time of significant change. Volume 1: Many Families The eighteenth-century family group was a varied one. Documents attest to religious and racial diversity, as well as the hardships endured by the poor and working classes, such as widows, orphans and those born outside wedlock. Fictive families are also examined alongside more traditional family units bound by blood or law.

The articles collected in this Spring 2009 (VII, 2) issue of Human Architecture: Journal of the Sociology of Self-Knowledge entitled “Historicizing Anti-Semitism” were part of an international conference entitled, “The Post-September 11 New Ethnic/Racial Configurations in Europe and the United States: The Case of Anti-Semitism,” organized by Lewis Gordon and Ramón Grosfoguel at the Maison des Sciences de l’Homme (MSH) in Paris on June 29–30, 2007. Part of a series inaugurated by a discussion on Islamophobia, they brought a majority Jewish group of scholars together in the hope of bringing to the forum a critical exchange and conversation among the participants. The articles gathered here do not represent a unified voice but those often unheard in discussions of anti-Semitism. The focus on anti-Semitism in this collection raises the question of how ancient and Medieval versions of anti-Jewish practices should be interpreted, especially since even the term “Semite” came about as an effort in eighteenth-century French and German scholarship to organize Arabic, Aramaic, and Hebrew under a single linguistic nomenclature, which was crystallized in the nineteenth century in the work of the French scholar Ernest Renan. Contributors include: Lewis R. Gordon (also as journal issue guest editor), Ramón Grosfoguel (also as journal issue guest editor), Eric Mielants (also as journal issue guest editor), David Ost, James Cohen, Santiago E. Slabodsky, Rabson Wuriga, Walter Mignolo, Ramón Grosfoguel, Marc H. Ellis, Etienne Balibar, Ivan Davidson Kalmar, Martine Chard-Hutchinson, Michael Löwy, Jean-Paul Rocchi and Mohammad H. Tamdgidi (also as journal editor-in-chief). Human Architecture: Journal of the Sociology of Self-Knowledge is a publication of OKCIR: The Omar Khayyam Center for Integrative Research in Utopia, Mysticism, and Science (Utopystics). A distinction is drawn between two very similarities based on the two types of characters that the same type of society produced. Orie, Puzo and Nmaku who hail from Angwa and the adjoining Ocha remained back in the village and made their lives almost permanently there rarely knowing what was going on in the outside world but being nonetheless greatly influenced by the latter. Their daily chores are dictated by the daily basic necessities of the moment and they have little to worry perpetually about. A lot of their life is controlled by the dictations and predictions of the traditional medicine man who occasionally misfires in his predictions which have no scientific basis supporting them. His situation is often taken advantage of by the political class who have little or nothing to lose even if the polity collapses. But Livinus on the other end of the spectrum emerges from the civil war and through a dint of luck and hard work studies hard and becomes a doctor. He even proceeds overseas despite a close shave by arsonists. He specializes and returns home to Akunwanta town from where he is again catapulted by fate and focus to become the governor of his state after a battle between titans eliminates the principal contestants. He at first meant well and had the intention of helping to reform society. Post election litigation and his lack of the economic leverage almost cost him his mandate. But again fate plays a hard one on him and because of his lack of cash he gets tied up to the economic vampires of his society. He is bailed out by a coalition of these vampires and narrowly reclaims his mandate only after colossal bribing of umpires who were least expected to soil their hands. He decides never to go begging ever again and hence he delves headlong into the rot and decay, not by his will but by the circumstances prevailing around him.
