John Nevins Andrews was one of the brightest lights of the new and growing Seventh-day Adventist Church. Serving as a scholar, author, preacher, administrator and the denomination's first missionary, he devoted his life for his church and God with unremitting zeal, and burned himself out at the age of 54. This book tells the story of a young man who became an Adventist, spurned a life of publicity and fame, became an itinerant preacher, clarified points of doctrine on the Sabbath for the new church, and ended his life sacrificially while bringing the three angels' message to Europe.

John Nevins Andrews in the late 1800's released this classic study on The Judgment, outlining its events and their order. This work covers the following points: "The "Investigative Judgment", "Examination of the Books", "God the Father the Judge", "Offices of Christ", "Messages to the World", "The Sanctuary in Heaven", "The Crowning of Christ", "The Executive Judgment", and "The Saints Sitting in Judgment". Andrews clearly explains and disproves many long-held misbeliefs about God's work to remove sin from His people. John Nevins Andrews (1829-1883). (A Collection of Some Sixteen Books and Ten Pamphlets.) Author, minister, missionary, and scholar. Born in Poland, Maine, in 1829, Andrews converted in February 1843 and began to observe the seventh-day Sabbath in 1845. He met James and Ellen White in September 1849. In 1850 he began itinerant pastoral ministry and was ordained in 1853. Andrews was a significant contributor in the development of Seventh-day Adventist theology. Among his more memorable achievements was applying the identity of the two-horned beast of Revelation to the United States of America. In 1859 he wrote the first edition of his most famous book, The History of the Sabbath and the First Day of the Week (Battle Creek, MI: Battle Creek Steam Press, 1859). On Oct. 29, 1856, Andrews married Angeline Stevens (1824-1872) in Waukon, Iowa, where the Andrews and Stevens families had recently moved. In 1859 a conference in Battle Creek voted that Andrews should assist J. N. Loughborough with tent evangelism in Michigan. He returned the follow year (1860) to Iowa. During this second period in Iowa his two children were born: Charles (b. 1857) and Mary (b. 1861). In June 1862 John left Waukon to conduct evangelistic meetings in New York where he helped to found the New York Conference. In February 1863 Angeline and their two children joined them in New York, and while there they had two more children both of whom died from tuberculosis. In 1864 Andrews was chosen as the denominational representative to the Provost Marshall General in Washington, D.C., to secure recognition for the denomination as noncombatants. On May 14, 1867, Andrews was elected the third president of the General Conference (until May 18, 1869) after which he became editor of the Review and Herald (1869-1870). In 1872 Angeline died from a stroke after which John moved with his two children to South Lancaster, Massachusetts, where his children could stay with the Harris family. Two years later he left with his two children, John and Mary, as the first official Seventh-day Adventist missionaries to Europe. They assisted in founding a publishing house in Switzerland and an Adventist periodical in French, Les Signes des Temps (1876). In 1878 Mary caught tuberculosis and died soon after receiving treatment at the Battle Creek Sanitarium. Andrews died on Oct. 21, 1883 and is buried next to J. H. Waggoner in Basel, Switzerland. In 1960 Andrews University was named in his honor. Adventist Pioneer Library, Ellen G. White Writings, Comprehensive Research Edition 2008, https: //egwwritings.org/

The Bible is full of the references to the second coming of the Saviour, and the events of the great day of God. The language of the inspired writers expresses in the most vivid manner, the awful and terrific scenes of that day in which God arises from His place to punish the inhabitants of the earth. God always warns before sending His judgments. As He warned Sodom and Gomorrah before sending fire and brimstone, and the antediluvian world through Noah before the flood, even so today He is sending a message of warning. In Revelation, Chapter 14, we find the three angels' messages which are being heralded around the world.

In this pivotal Bible study by Adventist pioneer and scholar John Nevins (Andrews), questions about what really happened in 1844 and whether or not the "Investigative Judgment" really exists are answered. "The Great Disappointment" of 1844, when thousands of believers waited expectantly for Jesus to come, is carefully examined in the light of Scripture. With his typical carefulness, J. N. Andrews examines why the expectations of the Millerites and other Second Advent believers were not realized on October 22, 1844. Andrews also explains the dream of Hiram Edson, which was accepted by many of the believers as the explanation for why Christ didn't return on that day. Hiram Edson's dream, which laid the groundwork for Seventh-day Adventist beliefs about Christ's ministry in the heavenly sanctuary today, is also explained in this book, which was first printed many years ago on the Washington Hand Press.

In presenting this most important subject for the consideration of the people of God, we invite the candid and prayerful attention of all who have ears to hear. It is well understood by thousands that the great disappointment of the Advent believers arose from the fact that they believed the cleansing of the sanctuary to be the burning of the earth, or some event to transpire at the second advent of the Lord Jesus; and as they could clearly establish the fact that the 2300 days would terminate in the autumn of 1844, they looked with the full assurance of faith and hope for the glorious appearing of the Son of God at that time. Painful and grievous was the disappointment; and while the heart of the trusting was bowed with sorrow, numbers were not wanting who openly denied the hand of God in the Advent movement, and made utter shipwreck of their faith. As the subject of the sanctuary of the Bible involves the most important facts connected with our disappointment, it is worthy of the serious attention of all who wait the consolation of Israel. Those who have any interest in the past Advent movement, cannot be otherwise than deeply interested in the question of our disappointment. To examine this question with candor and fairness, and to set forth the reasons why their expectations were not realized, is the object of this work.
