Conservative evangelical women are least likely to be trained in the areas of teaching and preaching. It's a tragic state of affairs, given the central value that our tradition places on the Scriptures. In this book, Jackie Roese examines the forces, both past and present, that have discouraged women from becoming trained. We'll discover that women are indeed called, gifted, and mandated in Scripture to herald the Word of God. The first half of the book will focus on encouraging women to become as fully equipped as our male counterparts, and to use their uniquely female voice in proclaiming truth to other women in various settings outside pulpit preaching. But encouragement isn't enough. Many women who already teach Bible studies, or who desire to teach, are in no position to pursue formal studies in a seminary. To that end, the second half of She Can Teach is dedicated to developing homiletic skills. Together we will learn how to study a passage, find the main idea, and build and deliver a biblical message. By the end of this book, the reader will be better equipped to proclaim truth, through her uniquely female voice, to her female audience.

“I used to be a lesbian.” In Gay Girl, Good God, author Jackie Hill Perry shares her own story, offering practical tools that helped her in the process of finding wholeness. Jackie grew up fatherless and experienced gender confusion. She embraced masculinity and homosexuality with every fiber of her being. She knew that Christians had a lot to say about all of the above. But was she supposed to change herself? How was she supposed to stop loving women, when homosexuality felt more natural to her than heterosexuality ever could? At age nineteen, Jackie came face-to-face with what it meant to be made new. And not in a church, or through contact with Christians. God broke in and turned her heart toward Him right in her own bedroom in light of His gospel. Read in order to understand. Read in order to hope. Or read in order, like Jackie, to be made new.

“Well-written, absorbing, and a great pleasure to read . . . will appeal to Christians struggling to square their traditional beliefs with acceptance of homosexuality as well as to all those interested in adoption, lesbian marriage, and the changing shape of America’s families.” —Elizabeth C. Fine, Virginia Tech University Waiting for the Call takes readers from the foothills of the Appalachians—where Jacqueline Taylor was brought up in a strict evangelical household—to contemporary Chicago, where she and her lesbian partner are raising a family. In a voice by turns comic and loving, Taylor recounts the amazing journey that took her in profoundly different directions from those she or her parents could have ever envisioned. Taylor’s father was a Southern Baptist preacher, and she struggled to deal with his strictures as well as her mother’s manic-depressive episodes. After leaving for college, Taylor finds herself questioning her faith and identity, questions that continue to mount when—after two divorces, a doctoral degree, and her first kiss with a woman—she discovers her own lesbianism and begins a most untraditional family that grows to include two adopted children from Peru. Even as she celebrates and cherishes this new family, Taylor insists on the possibility of maintaining a loving connection to her religious roots. While she and her partner search for the best way to explain adoption to their children and answer the inevitable question, “Which one is your mom?” they also seek out a church that will unite their love of family and their faith. Told in the great storytelling tradition of the American South, full of deep feeling and wry humor, Waiting for the Call engagingly demonstrates how one woman bridged the gulf between faith and sexual identity without abandoning her principles.

Add To Your Faith written by Jackie Ricks and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-12-26 with categories.

Add to Your Faith... is a Bible study, aimed primarily at ladies, which looks at 2 Peter 1:5-7 in an in-depth study of the qualities that God wants us to have in our Christian lives. After a discussion of each quality, the author then identifies a Bible lady who exemplified that characteristic in her life. Taking it one step further, Mrs. Ricks also recognizes a lady whom she has known in modern life who also exhibits some of that quality. These women are given pseudonyms to protect their privacy. This book encourages growth in the Christian life through study of the Word; it's not just a book to read and lay aside. Add to Your Faith... makes a nice companion to Jackie Ricks' first Bible study, Profiles of Virtue, which covers the virtuous woman passage of Proverbs 31:10-31. It is written in the same format. However, Mrs. Ricks was careful not to duplicate any women in both books. In this way, the reader may see more studies of different Bible ladies as well as modern ladies. This book would make a good Bible study for a women's or girls' class. Not only does the author discuss from the scripture, but she also asks probing questions and makes suggestions about improving Christian living. She has much experience from growing up as a preacher's kid to being a preacher's wife. Through the years, she has taught every level of Sunday school and continues to teach a women's Bible study during the week. She also wrote Sunday school literature for her denomination for 14 years. Besides being a writer, she is a retired school teacher.

I didn’t realize I had any talent for writing until I began posting my little stories on Facebook. Friends began to suggest they belonged in a book to be used as a devotional. And so here it is, my second book. As you read you will meet my family, my church, and my friends and will grow to love them as I do. You will also see how they inspire me daily to write. God has given me a special ability to pull from the ordinary and watch Him make it extraordinary. He shows me how to take the little things and use them to challenge us all to live a life more pleasing to Him. He has also given me a unique sense of humor and if you add that to the mix you get what my husband refers to as “Jackie-isms”. My hope is that my musings will encourage you, make you smile or even laugh out loud, and remind you that you are a beloved child of the most high King. Enjoy a story one day at a time or read through several as you relax for the evening. However you decide, just enjoy the ride through Jackie’s World!
