Why buy our paperbacks? Expedited shipping High Quality Paper Made in USA Standard Font size of 10 for all books 30 Days Money Back Guarantee BEWARE of Low-quality sellers Don't buy cheap paperbacks just to save a few dollars. Most of them use low-quality papers & binding. Their pages fall off easily. Some of them even use very small font size of 6 or less to increase their profit margin. It makes their books completely unreadable. How is this book unique? Unabridged (100% Original content) Font adjustments & biography included Illustrated Jacob's Room by Virginia Woolf Jacob's Room is Virginia Woolf's experimental third novel, set in England during the halcyon days before World War I. A generous "Contexts" section provides extracts from Woolf's diaries and letters as well as comments on the novel from her fellow writers and friends, among them E. M. Forster and T. S. Eliot. Also included are the short stories "The Mark on the Wall," "Kew Gardens," and "An Unwritten Novel," which Woolf viewed as early experiments with the innovative method used in Jacob's Room. Prized for their lyrical qualities, the novels of Virginia Woolf favor the psychological realms inhabited by her characters, where thoughts are so revealed that actions lose much of their importance. Most are also concerned with the structure of narrative, including the present novel, in which Woolf conveys the impression of time present and of time passing in individual experience as well as in the characters' awareness of historic time. Considered Woolf's first original and distinguished work, Jacob's Room concerns a sensitive young man, Jacob Flanders, who finds himself unable to reconcile his love of classical culture with the chaotic reality of World War I. His story unfolds in a series of brief impressions and conversations, stream-of-consciousness narratives, internal monologues, and letters.

The novel jumps ahead to the year 1906 and Jacob's time at university. He attends the University of Cambridge, and it is the first time he is living away from his family home. While at Cambridge, Jacob studies literature and meets some fellow students, Timothy Durrant and Richard Bonamy, who go on to become his friends. Although Jacob, Timothy, and Richard are all from relatively wealthy families, Jacob's upbringing seems to be much more rural than that of his friends. While on a vacation from school, Jacob and Timothy sail around the coast of Cornwall until they arrive at Timothy's hometown. There, Jacob meets Mrs. Durrant and Timothy's sister, Clara Durrant, both of whom seem to take an immediate liking to Jacob. After Jacob graduates from Cambridge, he decides not to return to Scarborough with his family but, instead, to move to London on his own. After arriving in London, Jacob seems rather listless, declining to pursue a steady profession or form of employment, as he has no financial incentive to do so. He spends most of his time continuing his studies independently, reading, and attending events in the city

Jacob's Room is the third novel by Virginia Woolf, first published on 26 October 1922.The novel centres, in a very ambiguous way, around the life story of the protagonist Jacob Flanders and is presented almost entirely through the impressions other characters have of Jacob. Thus, although it could be said that the book is primarily a character study and has little in the way of plot or background, the narrative is constructed with a void in place of the central character if, indeed, the novel can be said to have a 'protagonist' in conventional terms.Motifs of emptiness and absence haunt the novel and establish its elegiac feel. Jacob is described to us, but in such indirect terms that it would seem better to view him as an amalgam of the different perceptions of the characters and narrator. He does not exist as a concrete reality, but rather as a collection of memories and sensations.

A Nonconformist Novel with No Central Character “Either we are men, or we are women. Either we are cold, or we are sentimental. Either we are young, or growing old. In any case life is but a procession of shadows, and God knows why it is that we embrace them so eagerly, and see them depart with such anguish, being shadows.” - Virginia Woolf, Jacob's Room Jacob’s Room is not your typical Victorian English novel. The fact that there is no real protagonist stands out the most. Jacob is not actually a character, only a collection of memories, feelings and sensations. His life is like a room seen through the eyes of other people. This Xist Classics edition has been professionally formatted for e-readers with a linked table of contents. This eBook also contains a bonus book club leadership guide and discussion questions. We hope you’ll share this book with your friends, neighbors and colleagues and can’t wait to hear what you have to say about it.

The novel centres, in a very ambiguous way, around the life story of the protagonist Jacob Flanders, and is presented entirely by the impressions other characters have of Jacob (except for those times when we do indeed get Jacob's perspective). Thus, although it could be said that the book is primarily a character study and has little in the way of plot or background, the narrative is constructed as a void in place of the central character, if indeed the novel can be said to have a 'protagonist' in conventional terms. Adeline Virginia Woolf (25 January 1882 – 28 March 1941) was an English writer, and one of the foremost modernists of the twentieth century. During the interwar period, Woolf was a significant figure in London literary society and a central figure in the influential Bloomsbury Group of intellectuals. Her most famous works include the novels Mrs Dalloway (1925), To the Lighthouse (1927) and Orlando (1928), and the book-length essay A Room of One's Own (1929), with its famous dictum, "A woman must have money and a room of her own if she is to write fiction."
