Excerpt from Jahresbericht Uber die Neuerungen und Leistungen auf dem Gebiete des Pflanzenschutzes Es hat bisher an einer selbstandigen, alljahrlich wiederkehrenden Berichterstattung uber die Vorgange und Leistungen auf dem Gebiete des Pflanzenschutzes gefehlt, denn derartige Ubersichten mufsten bisher eine Unterkunft in den Jahresberichten fur Agrikulturchemie, Forstwesen u. S. W. Suchen. Ganz abgesehen davon, dafs der organische Zusammenhang zwischen Agrikultmchemie und Pflanzenschutz ein sehr lockerer ist, muis auch in Rucksicht gezogen werden, dafs der Pflanzenschutz sich im Laufe der letzten Jahre zu einer selbstandigen Wissenschaft herangebildet hat, welche wohl Anspruch darauf machen kann, nunmehr auf eigene Fufse gestellt zu werden. Auch der Umstand' dafs eine ganze Reihe von Kulturstaaten uber eigens dem Pflanzenschutz gewidmete Versuchsanstalten, Auskunftsstellen, Gesetze und Verordnungen' Zeitschriften, Vereinigungen u. S. W. Verfugt, spricht fur die Zweckmafsigkeit einer selbstandigen J ahres - Berichterstattung. Auf Grund dieser Erwagungen und einer Anregung der Landwirtschaftskammer fur die Provinz Sachsen folgend, habe ich die Zusammenstellung des vorliegenden Jahresberichtes unternommen. Was seine Einteilung anbelangt, so lehnt sich dieselbe teilweise an Kirchner's Ixrankheiten und Beschadigungen, sowie an Frank und Sorauers Pflanzenschutz nu. Soweit sie neu ist, wage ich nicht zu entscheiden, oh sie billigen Anspruchen genugt und sehe des halb dem Urteil der Fachgenossen dankbarlich entgegen. Mit Rucksicht darauf, dafs die Aufschliefsnng der tropischen Landergebiete ein immer be schleunigteres Tempo annimmt, habe ich die Einfugung 'eines besonderen Kapitels Schadiger der tropischen Nutzgewachse fiir angezeigt erachtet.
