VorwortDieser Band enthält die überarbeiteten Referate einer Fachtagung an der Politischen Akademie in Tutzing zum Thema "Sozialstruktur der DDR".Friedrich Fürstenberg nennt in seinem Buch "Die Sozialstruktur der Bundesrepublik Deutschland" (1976, S.11) die vier Voraussetzungen, "die erfüllt sein müssen, um bei soziologischen Strukturanalysen einen optimalen Aussagewert zu erhalten: Die Untersuchung muß erstens etwas über wahrnehmbare Tatsachen aussagen. Ihre Ergebnisse müssen zweitens empirisch nachprüfbar sein. Sie müssen drittens soziologisch bedeutsam sein und viertens den sozialen Wandel berücksichtigen". Damit ist unser methodischer Standard vorgezeichnet, und wir wissen, an welchem Maßstab Sozialstrukturforschung der DDR zu messen ist. Indes, der hohe Anspruch ist schwer einlösbar. Die Selbstdarstellungen der SED sind "allgegenwärtig", nur DDR-Bürger und "Kenner der Materie" können aus der Parteisprache auf die soziale Wirklichkeit schließen.Die empirische Erforschung der sozialen Struktur der DDR bereitet dem westlichen Wissenschaftler erhebliche Schwierigkeiten. Möglich ist sie allemal. Aber die Arbeit gestaltet sich mühsam, setzt Erfahrung und Fachkenntnis voraus, fordert interdisziplinäre Kooperation, Einfallsreichtum und hohen Aufwand. Leicht ist es dagegen, den Selbstzeugnissen der SED zu folgen; an solchen "Untersuchungen" mangelt es nicht.Die hier gesammelten Aufsätze bilden ein Mosaik zur Sozialstruktur der DDR; es soll wichtige, z.T. vernachlässigte gesellschaftliche Tatbestände erfassen und so einen Beitrag zur Erforschung der sozialen Wirklichkeit leisten.
