Angela Valamanesh is one of Australia's most intriguing ceramic artists. Her art is aesthetically minimal and cunningly simple, allowing us to interpret universal and ever-perplexing human, animal and organic forms. Valamanesh re-immerses us in the primeval rawness of form and function and, in doing so, the artist succeeds in visualising what many of her contemporaries have avoided - the symbiosis between art and science.

This publication accompanies two exhibitions that celebrate the 125th anniversary of the establishment of Geelong Gallery in 1896; that honour one of the first and greatest acquisitions to enter the collection; and that assert this Gallery's enduring commitment to the critical visions of contemporary artists.Frederick McCubbin-Whisperings in wattle boughs takes its lyrical title from McCubbin's quietly mesmerising painting of 1886, in which he depicts a solitary man in repose, contemplating the earth, listening to the rustling of the bush around him while his tea boils in the billy nearby. This evocative work sets the tone for an exhibition centred on one of the treasures of Geelong Gallery: McCubbin's much loved A bush burial 1890, the first major painting to enter the Gallery's collection, purchased through public subscription in 1900. A bush burial is brought into dialogue with a selection of other now-iconic paintings in which McCubbin redefined the Australian bush and elaborated the place and roles of human subjects within it. It is, therefore, a focussed thematic survey rather than a broad ranging retrospective of McCubbin's output and follows two recent Geelong-curated scholarly thematic exhibitions: Land of the Golden Fleece- Arthur Streeton in the Western Districts (2016) and Fred Williams in the You Yangs (2017).

Longlisted for The Indie Book Awards 2016 Longlisted for The Voss Literary Prize 2016 This is the story of John Wonder, a man with three families, each one kept secret from the other, each one containing two children, a boy and a girl. As he travels from family to family in different cities, he works as an Authenticator, verifying world records, confirming facts, setting things straight, while his own life is a teetering tower of breathtaking lies and betrayals. 'Some books read as if they are touched by magic, so wondrous and astonishing is the experience of immersing yourself in them. That's how I feel about The Wonder Lover . It is written with confidence and daring, with a joyous freedom and a love for story and language that is only possible when an artist has truly mastered their craft. It is a compulsive and thrilling read, a dazzling achievement. There is a word that should be used very rarely but I believe is absolutely right for this book: The Wonder Lover is superb.' -- Christos Tsiolkas, author of The Slap

How Decent Folk Behave written by Maxine Beneba Clarke and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-05-05 with Australian poetry categories.

On a daylight street in Minneapolis Minnesota, a Black man is asphyxiated - by callous knee of an officer, by cruel might of state, and under crushing weight of colony. In Melbourne, the body of another woman has been found - this time, after catching a late tram home. The Atlantic has run out of the English alphabet, when christening hurricanes this season. The earth is on fire - from the redwoods of California, to Australia's east coast. The sea draws back, and tsunamis lash out in Samoa and Sumatra. Water rises in Sulawesi and Nagasaki. Bloated cod are surfacing all along the Murray-Darlin. The virus arrives, and the virus thrives. Authorities seal the public housing towers up, and truck in one cop to every five residents. Notre Dame is ablaze - the cathedral spire blackened, and teetering. Out in Biloela, the deportation vans have arrived. Every Friday, in cities all across the world, children are walking out of school. The wolves are circling. The wolves are circling. These poems speak of the world that is, and sing for a world that may one day be.

Louise Haselton written by Gillian Brown and has been published by Wakefield Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-11-02 with Art categories.

Louise Haselton offers glimpses of the curious inner lives of everyday and overlooked things. From the domestic to the exotic, the natural to the 'made', she distinctively intuits connections between seemingly disparate material vernaculars. Haselton believes in the invisible forces that bind and repel the world around us. With a witty reverence for the objects and materials she engages with, Haselton explores the communicative possibilities of weight, balance and form within her predominantly sculptural works. Her practice is unexpected, unconventional, and exemplary of an artist especially attuned to the matters which surround us. Louise Haselton: Act natural is a compendium of Haselton's works to date including illustrated essays chronicling the inspirations, influences and ideas behind her extraordinary practice of the last twenty-five years.
