Mannheim (Soziale Arbeit), Veranstaltung: Seminar: Pädagogische Grundlagen in der Sozialen Arbeit, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird der Versuch unternommen, die Pädagogik von Janusz Korczak aus kinderrechtlicher Perspektive in Beziehung zu den geschilderten Situationen zu setzen und einen Bezug zu den heutigen Kinderrechten der UN-Konvention herzustellen. Es soll dabei beleuchtet werden, ob seine pädagogischen Gedanken und Ideen zum Verständnis der heutigen Kinderrechte beitragen und eine konstitutionelle Umsetzung unterstützen. Zur Einführung in die Thematik wird sich dem Begriff Kindheit genähert und versucht aus kindheitstheoretischer Sicht eine Antwort auf die vermeintlich schlichte Frage zu finden: „Was ist Kindheit?“. Die Entwicklungen in den Kinderrechten werden skizziert, um den Begriff Kinderrechte als Menschenrechte genauer zu fassen. Anschließend wird sich ausführlicher dem Leben und pädagogischen Wirken des Kinderarztes und Erziehers Janusz Korczak gewidmet und es wird ein Blick auf die praktische Umsetzung seiner Pädagogik geworfen. Um seine Bedeutung für die heutigen Rechte der Kinder zu beleuchten, wird die Entwicklung der Kinderrechte in der Gegenwart beschrieben und die UN-Kinderrechtskonvention in Grundzügen vorgestellt. Die Schlussbetrachtung dient der Formulierung, welche Impulse seine Sicht auf Pädagogik für die kindgerechte Umsetzung der Konvention eine Rolle spielen.

Published in 1912 on the heels of Twenty Years at Hull-House and at the height of Jane Addams's popularity, A New Conscience and an Ancient Evil assesses the vulnerability of the rural and immigrant working-class girls who moved to Chicago and fell prey to the sexual bartering of what was known as the white slave trade. Addams offers lurid accounts–-drawn from the records of Chicago's Juvenile Protection Association–-of young women coerced into lives of prostitution by men who lurked outside hotels and sweatshops. Because they lacked funds for proper recreation, Addams argues, poor and socially marginalized women were susceptible to sexual slavery, and without radical social change they would perhaps be "almost as free" as young men. In addition to promoting higher wages and better living conditions, Addams suggests that a longer period of public education for young women would deter them from the dangers of city life. Despite its appeal to middle–class readers eager for tales of sexual excess and the rape of innocence, the press and prominent intellectuals criticized A New Conscience and an Ancient Evil for being disproportionately hysterical to its philosophical weight. Katherine Joslin's introduction considers the controversial reactions to the book and the circumstances of its publication. Data, methods and theories of contemporary social science can be applied to resolve how political outcomes in democratic societies determine the quality of life that citizens experience. Radcliff seeks to provide an objective answer to the debate between left and right over what public policies best contribute to people leading positive and rewarding lives. Radcliff offers an empirical answer, relying on the same canons of reason and evidence required of any other issue amenable to study through social-scientific means. The analysis focuses on the consequences of three specific political issues: the welfare state and the general size of government, labor organization, and state efforts to protect workers and consumers through economic regulation.
