Jesus As Divine Suicide written by Joel L. Watts and has been published by Wipf and Stock Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-06-21 with Religion categories.

Jesus as Divine Suicide makes the argument the death of Jesus follows established and well-known models of self-sacrificing individuals, a model readily available to Roman and Jewish audiences. Paul, in his letter to the church in Galatia, uses this model to present a premeditated, self-chosen death meant to bring about a change in the cosmos. Watts, understanding the emotional attachment to the word, is careful to construct his argument based on a plethora of examples within Paul's reach, if not the reach of Jesus. The concept of devotio is explored using recent scholarship and examples are drawn from Jewish and Roman sources with the intention to show that not only did Paul use it, but that it may help to solve some of the questions scholars have raised as to who gave Paul his language of the death of Jesus. Watts goes on to argue the gruesome act of a self-caused death would have not only been allowed even by Jewish sources, but also would have had theological speculation supplied by the history of the devotion so that with minimal description, Paul is able to use the act as a way to make his argument for his gospel in Galatians.

The Suicide Of Christian Theology written by John Warwick Montgomery and has been published by New Reformation Publications this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-01-26 with Religion categories.

A forceful, scholarly call to return to the solid ground of the ancient creeds of Christianity. Dr. Montgomery's incisive observations on Barth, Bultmann, Tillich, de Chardin, Pike and others may rankle some readers on occasion. But there can never be any question about the mental acumen he brings to bear upon his subject or the skill with which he pens his views. Montgomery is so obviously at home in the area of the theological, and so conversant with the convictions of his fellow theologians that he certainly must be reckoned with. Not content with only analyzing the suicide of theology, the author also gives a proposal for its resurrection.

A compassionate, shame-free guide for your darkest days “A one-of-a-kind book . . . to read for yourself or give to a struggling friend or loved one without the fear that depression and suicidal thoughts will be minimized, medicalized or over-spiritualized.”—Kay Warren, cofounder of Saddleback Church What happens when loving Jesus doesn’t cure you of depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts? You might be crushed by shame over your mental illness, only to be told by well-meaning Christians to “choose joy” and “pray more.” So you beg God to take away the pain, but nothing eases the ache inside. As darkness lingers and color drains from your world, you’re left wondering if God has abandoned you. You just want a way out. But there’s hope. In I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die, Sarah J. Robinson offers a healthy, practical, and shame-free guide for Christians struggling with mental illness. With unflinching honesty, Sarah shares her story of battling depression and fighting to stay alive despite toxic theology that made her afraid to seek help outside the church. Pairing her own story with scriptural insights, mental health research, and simple practices, Sarah helps you reconnect with the God who is present in our deepest anguish and discover that you are worth everything it takes to get better. Beautifully written and full of hard-won wisdom, I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die offers a path toward a rich, hope-filled life in Christ, even when healing doesn’t look like what you expect.

Suffering and evil affect us all, both at a general level, as we look at a world filled with injustice, natural disasters and poverty, and at a personal level, as we experience grief, pain and unfairness. And how we think about and process the reality of pain is at the heart of why many people reject God. Dr. Amy Orr-Ewing is no stranger to pain and gives a heartfelt yet academically rigorous examination of how different belief systems deal with the problem of pain. She explains the unique answer that is found in Christ and how he can give us hope in the reality of suffering. This empathetic, easy-to-read and powerful evangelistic book is good for both unbelievers and believers alike. It will help those hoping to answer one of life’s biggest questions as well as those who are either suffering personally or comforting others.

""... Riccardi draws a broad-gauged fork through a variety of thinkers who have spoken wisely or foolishly on suicide: Justin Martyr and Augustine, Aquinas and Luther, Calvin and Kierkegaard, Dostoevsky and Camus, and so on. Obviously here is the riskiest portion of such a study but the author has had the witty humility to give his reader excellent selections from these figures and has provided just the right, frequently brilliant, commentary on them to facilitate an encounter between them an the reader on the central issue of the meaning of Christ's freedom for the problem of suicide."" - David Willis Professor Emeritus Princeton Theological Seminary
