Jesus As Mirrored In John written by James H. Charlesworth and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019 with Bible categories.

"James H. Charlesworth begins from a burgeoning point of scholarly consensus: More and more scholars are coming to recognize that the Fourth Gospel is more historically complex than previously thought. Charlesworth outlines two historical horizons within John. On the one hand, there is the Jewish background to the text (complete with the evangelist's knowledge of Palestinian geography and Jewish customs) which Charlesworth perceives as offering a window into pre-70 Palestinian Judaism. On the other hand, the gospel also reflects a post-70 world in which non-believing Jews, with more unity, begin to part definitely with those who identified Jesus as the Messiah. Split into four sections, this volume first examines the origins of the Fourth Gospel, its evolution in several editions, and its setting in Judea and Galilee. Charlesworth then looks specifically at the figure of Jesus and issues of history. He proceeds to consider this Gospel alongside earlier and contemporaneous Jewish literature, most notably the Dead Sea Scrolls. Finally, the volume engages with John's symbolism and language, looking closely at key aspects in which John differs from the Synoptic Gospels, and raising such provocative questions as whether or not it is possible that Jesus married Mary Magdalene. From one of the New Testament's most noted scholars, this book allows deeper understanding of the ways in which the Gospel of John is a vital resource for understanding both the origin of Christianity and Jesus' position in history."--Bloomsbury Publishing.

Like its companion on Mark, this primarily intended for the reader who has no previous knowledge of biblical criticism. Jesus in John's Gospel is portrayed very differently from the other three gospels - union with him brings salvation and eternal life. This is a mystical gospel, relating to life in the present rather than a future kingdom.

Exalting Jesus in John is part of the Christ-Centered Exposition Commentary series. Edited by David Platt, Daniel L. Akin, and Tony Merida, this new commentary series, projected to be 48 volumes, takes a Christ-centered approach to expositing each book of the Bible. Rather than a verse-by-verse approach, the authors have crafted chapters that explain and apply key passages in their assigned Bible books. Readers will learn to see Christ in all aspects of Scripture, and they will be encouraged by the devotional nature of each exposition presented as sermons and divided into chapters that conclude with a “Reflect & Discuss” section, making this series ideal for small group study, personal devotion, and even sermon preparation. It’s not academic but rather presents an easy reading, practical and friendly commentary. The author of Exalting Jesus in John is Matt Carter and Josh Wredberg.

"The Gospel of John intrigues, fascinates...and confuses many. It is filled with compelling personalities who move on and off the stage. Each contributes to an overview of the meaning of Jesus and his life, death and resurrection." "The community behind this gospel - in particular the Beloved Disciple - has remained in shadows for centuries. New insights into how this community actually expressed their faith opens the gospel to further analysis and deeper appreciation of the life and spirituality of the early church at the end of the first century."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Drawn Into The Mystery Of Jesus Through The Gospel Of John written by Jean Vanier and has been published by Paulist Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004 with RELIGION categories.

Jean Vanier celebrates the gospel of John in his highly anticipated latest work, Drawn into the Mystery of Jesus through the Gospel of John. Thoroughly personal and inspiring, it challenges all Christians to encounter the fullness of life lived in close communion with God. Vanier writes: "These insights that I share in this book come from the life of Jesus in me ... They also flow from my life with people who are weak and who have taught me to welcome Jesus from the place of the poverty in me." Jean Vanier was a friend and influential mentor to the late Henri Nouwen. Toward the end of his life, Nouwen left Harvard to live and work at one of Jean Vanier's L'Arche communities. This was perhaps the most profound experience of Christianity Nouwen experienced. The thought and spiritual direction/discipleship of Jean Vanier is available to all in Drawn into the Mystery of Jesus through the Gospel of John.
