Facing tragedy in her life, seventeen-year-old Rachel McDonald goes on a spiritual journey as Christ Jesus answers her questions. Rachel knows that God loves her, but she still is unclear about why bad things have happened to her, her sister, and her best friend. This narrative study explains Gods love and compassion for Rachel and for everyone through the inspired Word of His Son, Christ Jesus. Jesus, I Dont Understand describes Gods endless love, mercy, and grace as Christ Jesus speaks to Rachels heart as only a Father could. Rachel, a young Christian girl, attends a Bible study class every Wednesday with her best friend, Matthew Lacy. When a terrible accident occurs, however, it changes her faith in the goodness of God and His promises. All the things she learned in her Bible study classes begin to unravel for her. She feels alone and confused, and she has three important questions for Christ Jesus: Why do children die so young? Why do young people get sick? Are we really going to heaven when we die?

Many Christians believe that they have to understand everything about their faith for that faith to be genuine. This isn't true. There are many things we don't understand about God, His Word, and His works. And this is actually one of the greatest things about the Christian faith: that there are areas of mystery that lie beyond the keenest scholarship or even the most profound spiritual exercises. Sadly, for many people these problems raise so many questions and uncertainties that faith itself becomes a struggle. But questions, and even doubts, are part of faith. Chris Wright encourages us to face the limitations of our understanding and to acknowledge the pain and grief they can often cause. In The God I Don't Understand, he focuses on four of the most mysterious subjects in the Bible and reflects upon why it's important to ask questions without having to provide the answer: The problem of evil and suffering. The genocide of the Canaanites. The cross and the crucifixion. The end of the world. "However strongly we believe in divine revelation, we must acknowledge both that God has not revealed everything and that much of what he has revealed is not plain. It is because Dr. Wright confronts biblical problems with a combination of honesty and humility that I warmly commend this book." —John Stott

Why does He let these things happen? Why me? Why doesn't God answer my prayers? Why didn't He protect me? Why doesn't He perform a miracle? Why? helps us understand and deal with suffering while guiding us to the ultimate answer-the Savior who shares our grief and our tears.

Understanding Jesus written by Joe Amaral and has been published by FaithWords this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-09-10 with Religion categories.

Modern-day Christians often bring their own presuppositions and assumptions to the reading of the Bible, not realizing how deeply their understanding of Christ's life and teachings is affected by a 21st-century worldview. In Understanding Jesus, author Joe Amaral delves deep into Jewish history, societal mores, and cultural traditions, closing the gap created by geographical distance and over two thousand years of history. Using a chronological approach to the life of Christ, he guides the reader through significant events such as Jesus' birth, baptism, and crucifixion, pointing out illuminating details that that the Western mind would normally miss. Amaral's premise is that to understand Jesus, we must understand the time and place in which he was born, the background from which he drew his illustrations, and the audience he spoke to. Throughout the book he explores specific terms, places, and events for their significance and shows how they add richness and meaning to the text. Topics include the connection between Jesus and John the Baptist, the annual Feasts and why they are important to modern Christianity, Jewish customs such as foot-washing, clean and unclean foods, paying tribute to political governments, and the significance of various miracles. In Understanding Jesus, Amaral draws back the curtain on a way of life that existed during the reign of the Caesars, and in doing so, reveals truths about the way we live more than two thousand years later, half a world away.

The Problem with Christ discusses how English dictionaries, Greek scholars, and common usage all treat Christ as little more than a surname for Jesus. Discover how this error in scholarship and translation has, all too often, obscured the message of the New Testament For those who love Jesus, this book will give you a fresh, stunning view of how early believers viewed Him, and the extent of meaning that is contained in believing that "Jesus is the Christ." It will also give you a new glimpse of why Jesus came, why His enemies hated Him, and why His followers died for Him. Easy to read and yet authoritative; scholarly and yet accessible, this book will leave you wondering how you could have been unaware of the problem with "Christ." But you will be delighted and-perhaps-transformed by the insight its resolution brings.

What if everything you've been told about salvation is wrong? For nearly a thousand years Christians have been hearing and repeating a story about why Jesus died on the cross. It's the only story of salvation most of them have ever heard. And it's wrong. The Bible doesn't have that story and the early Christians never heard that story - they never believed it. In Salvation (and how we got it wrong), Kenneth Myers revisits the story of our salvation, retelling it like the early Christians told it. No longer a tale of an angry God punishing his Son in payment for crimes against his honor, it becomes a tale of a loving God doing all in his power to bring healing to a humanity he desperately cares for.

It was not easy, God knowing me, as the world puts you to a test on the daily basis. I have stumbled at times and even denounced God a few times, but in my heart and soul, he forgave me, and I continued my life a better person. I believe all of us are put on this earth to better our lives and others, and when we return, we will pick up where we left off. As I’ve often said, take care of your body; it is a loaner and belongs to God, and he returns it to dust and gives you a new body, but you will have to keep your soul. If all goes as God planned, I will be reborn, and my soul will return to Earth, and I will again be among the living. (Remember, all lives are important. Maintain your self-respect.) May God guide all of you with his wisdom. In Closing If Jesus gave me three wishes, the first I would give to all of you, so you have a wish. The second wish, I would give to my wife, Judith; son, Jerry; and daughter, Michele. The third and final wish, I would give back to Jesus to give to his Father to thank him for being proud of his son and his adopted children, as I am of my family. Thank you.

By the early second century the Christian Church was predominantly Gentile, having separated from its Jewish roots and base. It lost most all understanding of Jewish culture. Very few in the church could read Hebrew, and as significantly, its Scriptures were in Greek, which contributed to its growing ignorance of the intricacies of Jewish word play. They could not and did not retain the richness, the interconnectedness, and the brilliance of the Hebrew writing, and thereby misinterpreted much of what they cherished. Today, many, if not most, Christians also lack the basic knowhow needed to adequately appreciate our Jewish-written Scriptures. This little 150 page book will not heal what ails us, but in a light, sometimes fun, other times serious way, it will help, and that is needed. It may even erase a few of the lines that separate our two great communities-Jewish and Christian-and remind us of our shared humanity and Faith. Creative, insightful, humorous, sensitive, challenging, thought provoking . . . . What other words are used to describe this book and its author? See pages iv and v.

There are diverse perceptions and opinions about the person of Jesus, and these are based on various assumptions--whether someone is a Christian or not. Regardless of what differing viewpoints we may hold, since the Gospel writers, each in their own distinctive way, address the "Who is Jesus?" question, it is crucial that we at least explore what they have to say. This book presents insights on the identity of Jesus from their accounts, by considering: -The importance of what the angels had to say about his birth; -The significance of the events surrounding Jesus' baptism; -The meanings of the strange story of the temptations of Jesus; -Two of the audacious things Jesus said about himself; -The radical politics of Jesus; -The location of God's presence in the world; and -The words of an early hymn. Taken altogether, a most surprising picture of who Jesus was--and is--is revealed.

One of Christianity Today's 2003 Books of the Year! We give ourselves to God and then struggle profoundly with the relationship. We are drawn in and then want to flee in fear. We move from faith to doubt, trust to confusion, intimacy to a feeling of abandonment. Coming to faith is like falling in love. It can be a head-over-heels rush to the altar or a slow acceptance that slips into a heartfelt embrace. Either way, eventually romance crashes headlong into reality. Often we make things worse either by feeling guilty about our struggles with doubt or by trying to dismiss them as unimportant or insignificant. We may even become resentful that God does not simply step in to clear up our confusion. When we find ourselves in any of these predicaments, the only way out is to face our uncertainties about God--deliberately and directly. In Embracing the Mysterious God James Emery White explores these struggles we all face--struggles of heart, soul, mind and strength. And struggles to love our neighbors as ourselves. Here you will find your tough questions about God addressed. Better still, you will find the way to renewed faith.
