Fourteen darkly comic and artfully crafted Deep South tales in the spirit of O'Connor "Mister, most stories about people are sad. The ones about animals sometimes turn out all right, but not them about people," muses a character in master storyteller Paul Ruffin's yarn of obsession and quest "In Search of the Tightrope Walker." Raging against this fated sadness—and often against a deadening and inescapable status quo—the characters in Ruffin's newest collection, Jesus in the Mist, populate an imaginative vision of the hardscrabble Deep South where history, culture, and expectations are set firmly against them. Like Flannery O'Connor before him, Ruffin views the South as dark with humor and rife with violence. He writes of places and times where religion, race, class, sex, abuse, poverty, mythology, and morbidity coalesce to expose humanity at its basest and its most redeeming. Peppered with the vivid dialogue, colorful descriptions, and idiosyncratic comedy that define Ruffin's work, this volume is divided into two sections: the first group of stories addresses complexities of relationships between men and women, and the second recounts episodes of initiation in which characters grapple with divided loyalties. Collectively these stories paint a panoramic view of Southern culture as dynamic characters take a stab at their destinies—and sometimes at each other. Whether they are facing the visage of Christ in a motel bathroom mirror, blasting a murder of crows with military-grade artillery, outrunning a mythical beast through moonlit woods, or taking an armed stance against integration at a gas station water fountain, many of Ruffin's characters are zealots on the edge of reason. Here confidence men, thugs, and rednecks push their agendas on unsuspecting audiences. But there are those as well who search for a lost childhood love, exorcise a sexual predator from the home, return to a discarded life, and spare a man's life when no one would be the wiser. These individuals long for restoration, redemption, and righteousness. Both populations come together in Ruffin's South, where madness and faith hold equal sway and no amount of sadness can keep yearned-for possibilities from still being perceived as attainable.

Beyond the Mist is more than a book. It is the cry of a church leader, the prayer of a pastor, and the motto of an evangelist. For More than 30 years, Tim Hill has led many into a river experience with God. Spiritual lethargy is his enemy and it comes through in this book. We have the choice of existing in a mist of mediocrity or flourishing in a river of revival. The choice is clear. This personal, intimate journey weaves the theme and experience of walking through the maze, confusion and intense emotional pain of watching someone you love disappearing into a mist of dementia. Kathleen examines the emotional, physical and spiritual battle that rages while juggling the very practical and mundane duties of facing a health crisis. Added to this, for a believer in Jesus Christ, are the throes of faith-challenging issues which inevitably surface. This book probes the devastation of watching her strong, loving and very funny husband morph into a diminished soul, whose personality has disappeared, but who insists that he is fine, leaving her to deal with the myriads of broken pieces of their lives and the ongoing grieving process which has no end in sight.. Told in a journalistic style, with writings from personal journals kept over a period of four years, Kathy relates all of the ins and outs, the ups and downs, of wading through crucial decisionsboth financial and health, as well as emotional decisions to trust God, who at times seems an unfamiliar friend. It follows this faith journey through to the end result which is that no matter where God may take our lives, and no matter how the story ends, He is enough and He can be trusted and He does have a plan in mind, regardless of how murky that plan might appear in the process. Kathleen invites us into the journey through this process and leaves us with overcoming victory in Christ.

During the Lenten Journey, just as Jesus was, so the Collectible Treasures of the Kingdom of God are threatened, challenged, questioned, and tempted. Many discover themselves pondering, wondering, and questioning matters of faith, justice, salvation, God's promise, and the redemptive power of Christ's death and resurrection. The forty days of Lent refine the Collectible Treasures and brings them to the foot of the cross where the blood of Christ drips upon each one and prods them to the mouth of the empty tomb where the refreshing mist of salvation is once again splashed upon the head and every ear hears, "He is not here. He is risen. Alleluia." Among the sojourners, on the forty-day journey, is the pastor. Similar to the parishioners he is called to serve his steps also leave a deep imprint beneath the tread marks of doubt and the weight of temptations. The pastor's personal struggles are amplified, initially, by the likes of a cantankerous, curmudgeon, retired pastor, who wants, no, demands, to be greeted as Herr Pastor. In the pages that follow, we travel with these treasures, and in some shape or form, their stories are our stories so that we too are carried to the cross and the empty tomb that the words, "He is not here. He is risen," pierce our souls as we bask in the mist of salvation.

For the most part this book was written as a warning that at this very moment the glorious gospel is under attack as never before. Satan is using false religions and false teachers to deceive, and thousands are falling prey to his wicked devices. It is now accepted that to criticize another religion is bigoted and un-American. Jesus and his apostles warned many times of false prophets and false teachers. The great apostle Paul warns of the existence of grievous wolves among the flock. If my family were attacked and misrepresented my love for them would surely compel me to defend them with every resource that I have. How much more then should the love for my savior motivate me to defend him and the gospel. Since Jesus and the apostles spoke out against false prophets and false teachers, I believe as a Christian and as a follower of Christ, it is my solemn duty to do the same. To fail to do so I would be doing a great injustice to those whom the false prophets, false religions, and false teachers are deceiving.

This book I started in 2013, and with some interruptions, I finished the book by March 2016. It is a study or commentary on the book of Genesis. Having this book, I realized how important it is and I found many mysteries. After the book of Revelation and Daniel, this is the third book full of mysteries followed by the book of Isaiah. Starting with Genesis 2:6, we get an idea of a mist or steam that came out from the ground that telling the earth was ready for the life to start. Then later on, we can figure out another kind of mist is coming out from the ground. From Genesis 19:27""28. Therefore from Abraham's point of view, things look different. Sodom and Gomorrah describes a different picture of a smoke coming out from the ground. During the history of the world, we see different mists coming from God to bless the earth. The strongest and the last one is found in the book of 2 Peter 3:10. "But the day of the Lord will come as unexpectedly as a thief. Then the heavens will pass away with a terrible noise, and the very elements themselves will disappear in fire, and the earth and everything on it will be found to deserve judgment." With this last image of mist/steam ending up this planet too, giving room to the new heavens and the new earth that will never need any steam or mist or smoke.

Life As A Vapor written by John Piper and has been published by Multnomah this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-01-16 with Religion categories.

31 meditations from the founder of Desiring God that will connect you to a fresh understanding of God and renew your faith. "You do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away" (James 4:14). Living knowing that your life is a vapor is different than just living. Things here are passing away. You’ve got to hold on to what will stand. Savor what matters. This collection of thirty-one articles is full of that heart-longing after Christ that distinguishes Piper’s preaching ministry. You will feel as though you have stumbled into a garden as you enter these pages. The Scripture cuts, Christ is exalted in God, and we worship Him. Life Is Short. Eternity Is Long. Live Like It. You will exist forever. You and God are both in the universe to stay—either as friends on His terms, or enemies on yours—which it will be is proven in this life. And this life is a vapor. Two seconds, and we will be gone. In these thirty-one meditations, John Piper will connect you to a fresh understanding of God and a renewed relationship with Him. You’ll find your faith stirred to make every day count for Christ when you consider life as a vapor. Story Behind the Book Time is precious. We are fragile. Life is short. Eternity is long. Every minute counts. Oh, to be a faithful steward of the breath God has given me. Three texts resound in my ears: “Redeem the time” (Ephesians 5:16 ); “It is required of stewards that one be found trustworthy” (1 Corinthians 4:2); “His grace toward me was not in vain; but I labored even more than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God with me” (1 Corinthians 15:10 ). Surely God means for our minutes on earth to count for something significant. Paul said, “In the day of Christ I will have reason to glory because I did not run in vain nor toil in vain” (Philippians 2:16). In the same way, I have good hope from the Lord that my “labor is not in vain in the Lord” (1 Corinthians 15:58 ).
