Software systems play an increasingly important role in modern societies. Smart cards for personal identi?cation, e-banking, software-controlled me- cal tools, airbags in cars, and autopilots for aircraft control are only some examples that illustrate how everyday life depends on the good behavior of software. Consequently, techniques and methods for the development of hi- quality, dependable software systems are a central research topic in computer science. A fundamental approach to this area is to use formal speci?cation and veri?cation. Speci?cation languages allow one to describe the crucial p- perties of software systems in an abstract, mathematically precise, and implementation-independent way. By formal veri?cation, one can then prove that an implementation really has the desired, speci?ed properties. Although this formal methods approach has been a research topic for more than 30 years, its practical success is still restricted to domains in which devel- ment costs are of minor importance. Two aspects are crucial to widen the application area of formal methods: – Formal speci?cation techniques have to be smoothly integrated into the software and program development process. – The techniques have to be applicable to reusable software components. This way, the quality gain can be exploited for more than one system, thereby justifying the higher development costs. Starting from these considerations, Peter Muller ̈ has developed new te- niques for the formal speci?cation and veri?cation of object-oriented so- ware. The speci?cation techniques are declarative and implementati- independent. They can be used for object-oriented design and programming.

Mobile Agents written by Gian P. Picco and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003-06-30 with Computers categories.

Recent years have witnessed the appearance of new paradigms for designing distributed applications where the application components can be relocated - namically across the hosts of the network. This form of code mobility lays the foundation for a new generation of technologies, architectures, models, and - plications in which the location at which the code is executed comes under the control of the designer, rather than simply being a con?guration accident. Among the various ?avors of mobile code, the mobile agent paradigm has become particularly popular. Mobile agents are programs able to determine - tonomously their own migration to a di?erent host, and still retain their code and state (or at least a portion thereof). Thus, distributed computations do not necessarily unfold as a sequence of requests and replies between clients and - mote servers, rather they encompass one or more visits of one or more mobile agents to the nodes involved. Mobile code and mobile agents hold the potential to shape the next gene- tion of technologies and models for distributed computation. The ?rst steps of this process are already evident today: Web applets provide a case for the least sophisticated form of mobile code, Java-based distributed middleware makes - creasing use of mobile code, and the ?rst commercial applications using mobile agents are starting to appear.

ETAPS 2002 was the ?fth instance of the European Joint Conferences on Theory and Practice of Software. ETAPS is an annual federated conference that was established in 1998by combining a number of existing and new conferences. This year it comprised 5 conferences (FOSSACS, FASE, ESOP, CC, TACAS), 13 satellite workshops (ACL2, AGT, CMCS, COCV, DCC, INT, LDTA, SC, SFEDL, SLAP, SPIN, TPTS, and VISS), 8invited lectures (not including those speci?c to the satellite events), and several tutorials. The events that comprise ETAPS address various aspects of the system - velopment process, including speci?cation, design, implementation, analysis, and improvement. The languages, methodologies, and tools which support these - tivities are all well within its scope. Di?erent blends of theory and practice are represented, with an inclination towards theory with a practical motivation on one hand and soundly-based practice on the other. Many of the issues involved in software design apply to systems in general, including hardware systems, and the emphasis on software is not intended to be exclusive.

Inhaltsangabe:Abstract: Even though the benefits of mobile agents have been highlighted in numerous research works, mobile agent applications are not in widespread use today. For the success of mobile agent applications, secure, portable, and efficient execution platforms for mobile agents are crucial. However, available mobile agent systems do not meet the high security requirements of commercial applications, are not portable, or cause high overhead. Currently, the majority of mobile agent platforms is based on Java. These systems simply rely on the security facilities of Java, although the Java security model is not suited to protect agents and service components from each other. Above all, Java is lacking a concept of strong protection domains that could be used to isolate agents. The J-SEAL2 mobile agent system extends the Java environment with a model of strong protection domains. The core of the system is a micro-kernel fulfilling the same functions as a traditional operating system kernel: Protection, communication, domain termination, and resource control. For portability reasons, J-SEAL2 is implemented in pure Java. J-SEAL2 provides an efficient communication model and offers good scalability and performance for large-scale applications. This thesis explains the key concepts of the J-SEAL2 micro-kernel and how they are implemented in Java. Software Engineering And Middleware written by Thomas Gschwind and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-03-31 with Computers categories.

Middleware provides an integration framework for multiple and potentially - verse computing platforms. It allows developers to engineer distributed appli- tions more easily, providing abstractions and primitives to handle distribution and coordination. Middlewareisconstantlyfacingnewchallenges.Today’sadvancesincomp- ing, including development of pervasive applications, exacerbates the diversity problem, introducing variations not only in terms of performance, but also in terms of environments and device characteristics. Software engineers are the- fore challenged both in the area of the development of new and scalable m- dleware systems, where open, heterogeneous, component-based platforms should provide richer functionality and services, and in the area of application devel- ment, where tools to simplify the use of middleware solutions are necessary. Software Engineering and Middleware is the premier workshop for the - search and practice community of software engineering working in both areas to presentanddiscussnewideasinthis?eld.SEM2004wasthefourthinternational workshop on software engineering and middleware of the EDO/SEM workshop series. Previous workshops of this series were successfully held in 2002, 2000 and 1999. Most of the proceedings have been published by Springer in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science series.
