Joc de llunes està format per cinc monòlegs desglossats en tres veus de dona, que enmig del caos, opten per seguir el seu instint. Deixant-se arrossegar pels sentiments, desconeixent l'abast real de les seves accions. Aquestes veus que neixen d'un tronc comú, els components i les referències de les quals són les mateixes però amb diferents proporcions, ens parlen des d'un punt de vista desajustat, d'una realitat parcial, focalitzada, que distorsiona els lligams personals que hi ha entre elles. Joc de llunes transcorre en un ambient rural i alhora, de ciutat. On les protagonistes es mouen influïdes per un passat, que determina el seu present. Les històries comencen com petits relats que s'interrelacionen i van creixent. Allunyant-se dels estereotips, cada veu narra a la seva manera, la difícil comunicació que provoca la falta d'entesa. I com es van aïllant per centrar-se, empeses pel desig atàvic de preservar un món propi que s'esquerda, mentre s'alterna la claredat amb la incertesa.

This study focuses upon the work of the Catalan woman poet Maria-Mercè Marçal. It analyses the interaction between body and language in her first five books of poetry. Drawing on the Italian feminist thought of il pensiero della differenza sessuale, it examines the ways in which Marçal’s poetic images display her Catalan feminine subjectivity, including the function of the poet, the space of poetry and the representation of love. It also explores the potentiality of the space of poetry to reconstruct female identity and reconfigure reality. In addition, it unravels the way in which the poet uses poetry to express the love for the other whilst also extending the boundaries of the self. The central concern is to bridge the fissure between female experience and universal precepts on the art of poetry through the predominance of an embodied and natural iconography. This study presents Marçal’s poetic compositions within the international panorama of poetry and feminist studies and aims to open up new terrains of discussion in the field of language, body and writing.

Short story writing has flourished in twentieth-century Ireland and Catalonia. The genre has attracted some of the finest writers but in particular women authors. This book considers the disadvantaged position of women in Irish and Catalan society as refracted through the medium of the short story. The writers under discussion include Edna O'Brien, Julia O'Faolain, Eilis Ni Dhuihne, Mary Beckett, Clare Boylan, Mary Dorcey, Angela Bourke, Katy Hayes and Anne Devlin. Women Write Back also explores the subordinate position of Ireland and Catalonia historically in relation to the metropolitan powers of Britain and Spain respectively. The cultural implications of the colonial connection are considered from the viewpoint of women and men. The study breaks new ground in placing Ireland and Catalonia within the same comparative framework. There are of course differences between the two societies: the languages and geographical settings are far removed, for instance. But, on closer analysis, it is the similarities which predominate. Both are post-colonial societies, the status of women in many respects is comparable; issues of identity and language are to the forefront of consciousness and national debate. In this book feminist theorising and post-colonial discourses are fruitfully brought to bear on the literary creations of Irish and Catalan short story writers, in what might be described also as an exercise in literary decolonization. Women Write Back was awarded the distinction of the VI Premios de Ensayo de Catalán, Gallego y Vasco for the year 2000 by the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia in Spain.

Passant per les poblacions de Barrow, Nome i Homer la ruta també permet veure com la modernitat ha afectat a diferents comunitats ancestrals, i finalment a les illes Kodiak l'autor comprova com en alguns llocs, aquesta modernitat encara no ha arribat i la vida salvatge, especialment la dels óssos, segueix com a l'inici dels temps. Al llarg del recorregut l'autor desgrana la història d'Alaska i el Yukon fent especial èmfasi en els seus pobles nadius però també en l'arribada dels primers exploradors (russos, espanyols, britànics, americans,....), i aprofundint també en la fauna i la flora locals i les històries personals dels homes i dones, antics i moderns, que ho van deixar tot per a marxar cap al nord. El llibre es pot llegir com una guia de viatges per a visitar Alaska i el Yukon o com a narrativa de viatges per aquells lectors que vulguin aprofundir en el coneixement d'una de les regions més salvatges del planeta i tota l'aventura que hi ha darrera la seva exploració.
