In der ersten Arbeit soll anhand einer Analyse und Interpretation die Frage "Welche Tropen und rhetorischen Mittel nutzt Goethe in 'Willkommen und Abschied', um das ständige Auf und Ab der Gefühle darzustellen und inwiefern schlägt sich seine neue Sprache in diesem Gedicht nieder?" diskutiert und beantwortet werden. Die zweite Arbeit behandelt die Motive des Sturm und Drang anhand dreier Gedichte von Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Der Schwerpunkt der Untersuchung liegt auf den wiederkehrenden Motiven in den drei behandelten Werken, stellvertretend für die Werke Goethes des Sturm und Drang. Innerhalb der wenigen Jahre, in denen die Gedichte "Willkommen und Abschied", "Wandrers Sturmlied" und "Prometheus" entstanden, lebt der Dichter unter unterschiedlichsten Umständen, die er in seinen Werken verarbeitet. Die letzte Hausarbeit beschäftigt sich mit dem Zusammenspiel von Patriarchat und Kapitalismus als konvergente Ideologie der Ungleichberechtigung der Frau in der literarischen Kunst. Goethes "Clavigo", 1774 publiziert, thematisiert diese Thematik prototypisch. Zuerst werden anhand eines Theorieteils systemtheoretische Grundlagen zu Patriarchat, Männlichkeit und Fragilität, Präkapitalismus und dessen Ideologie des Habens, nach Erich Fromm, dargelegt. Nach einem Modell von R. W. Connell – und z. T. auch von J. Halberstam – wird eine Möglichkeit zur Bestimmung des Grads sozialer Männlichkeit angewendet; im Anwendungsteil wird hieran aber auch Kritik aufgezeigt und versucht, weitere Möglichkeiten/Kriterien zur Bestimmung des Grads der sozialen Männlichkeit anzuführen.

Ever since Aristotle opened the discussion on the role of the chorus in Greek tragedy, theories of the chorus have continued to proliferate and provoke debate to this day. The tragic chorus had its own story to tell; it was a collective identity, speaking within and to a collective citizen body, acting as an instrument through which stories of other times and places were dramatized into resonant heroic narratives for contemporary Athens. By including detailed case studies of three different tragedies (one each by Aeschylus, Euripides and Sophocles), Claude Calame's seminal study not only re-examines the role of the chorus in Greek tragedy, but pushes beyond this to argue for the 'polyphony' of choral performance. Here, he explores the fundamentally choral nature of the genre, and its deep connection to the cultic and ritual contexts in which tragedy was performed.

At the beginning of the 21st century, there is still no generally accepted comprehensive definition of the lyric or differentiated modern toolkit for its analysis. The reception of poetry is largely characterised either by an empathetic identification of critics with the lyric persona or by exclusive interest in formal patterning. The present volume seeks to remedy this deficit. All the contributors ‘theorise’ the lyric to overcome the impasse of an impressionistic and narrowly formalistic critical debate on the genre. Their papers focus on a variety of different questions: the problem of establishing a framework for definition and classification; the search for dynamic and potent critical approaches; investigations of poetry's cultural performance and its fundamental relevance for the construction of group cohesion. The essays collected in this volume offer a consciously polyphonic range of theories and interpretations, suggesting to the reader a variety of theoretical frameworks and practical illustrations of how a discussion of poetry may be firmly grounded in modern literary theory.

Mit dem Versuch der Menschen das eigene Welt- und Selbstverständnis zum Ausdruck zu bringen, haben sich mit der Zeit verschiedene Mythen herausgebildet, von denen die Schöpfungsmythen eine besondere Relevanz für die Menschen eingenommen haben. Viele dieser Mythen blieben dabei im Laufe der Geschichte nicht nur auf einen rein religiösen Kontext beschränkt, sondern haben ihrerseits Einfluss auf die unterschiedlichsten Künste genommen oder fanden durch ihren inspirierenden Charakter immer wieder als Themenstoff eine schriftbezogene Verwendung. Doch nur die wenigsten der auf die Schöpfung eingehenden Mythen konnten eine immer wiederkehrende Resonanz hervorrufen, wie dies der Prometheus-Sage als Bestandteil der griechischen Mythologie gelang. Dabei hat die Auseinandersetzung mit dem Prometheus-Stoff eine äußerst lange Tradition vorzuweisen. Gehört doch die mythologische Gestalt des Prometheus zu den bedeutendsten Figuren der okzidentalen Literaturwissenschaft. Doch obwohl die Rezeptionsgeschichte der Prometheus-Gestalt kaum zu überblicken ist und nicht ausschließlich auf die deutsche Literatur begrenzt bleibt, ist die wohl bekannteste Bearbeitung dieses Mythenstoffes Johann Wolfgang von Goethe zuzuordnen, welcher nicht nur mit seiner Beschäftigung mit der Prometheus-Sage eigene Akzente setzte, sondern dieser gleichzeitig auch einen neuzeitlichen Ausdruck verlieh.
