C. H. Dodd's Historical Tradition in the Fourth Gospel, published in 1963, marked a milestone in New Testament research and has become a standard resource for the study of John. Historically biblical scholars have concentrated on the Synoptic Gospels: Matthew, Mark and Luke. However, Dodd's book encouraged scholars to take John seriously as a source for the life of Jesus. This volume both reflects upon and looks beyond Dodd's writings to address the implications, limitations and potential of his groundbreaking research and its programmatic approach to charting a course for future research on the Gospel of John. Leading biblical scholars demonstrate the recent surge of interest in John's distinctive witness to Jesus, and also in Dodd's work as the harbinger of advancements in the study of the Fourth Gospel. This volume will be invaluable to all those studying the New Testament, Johannine theology and the history of the early Church.

The Father And The Son written by William Frederick Lofthouse and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1934 with Bible categories.

This book does not attempt to settle questions of authorship or date, or to suggest fresh critical analyses or rearrangements of the text. It takes the book as substantially a whole; a religious document, coming in the main from the pen of a single Christian writer, who lived near the end of the first century A.D. It then proceeds to analyze with some care what appears to be the author's central interest and message, his special conception of fatherhood and sonship, as something to be seen and known only in the relations between Him who is called the Father in the pages of the Gospel, and Him who is called the Son. This conception is somewhat different from that which is generally connected with God's Fatherhood in the New Testament. A comparison of the Fourth Gospel with other New Testament documents makes it probable that this specific form of the doctrine is the center of the actual teaching of Jesus, and has been reproduced in its original purity in the Fourth Gospel. - Foreword.

Johannine Theology written by Paul A. Rainbow and has been published by Apollos this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014 with Religion categories.

In this magisterial synthesis, Paul A. Rainbow presents the most complete account of the theology of the Johannine corpus available today. Both critical and comprehensive, this volume includes all the books of the New Testament ascribed to John: the Gospel, the three Epistles and the book of Revelation. While not proclaiming a definitive position on the question of authorship, this work seeks to shed light on the theology common to all the New Testament authors. John's root beliefs concerning God, humanity, sin, the world, and the significance of the Christ-event on eschatology unite the examined books with the rest of the New Testament canon. The Johannine corpus also highlights the important areas of Christology, soteriology and ecclesiology in a manner that is worth exploration. Organizing John's ideas by the main characters around whom they revolve, the Johannine universe consists of persons divine and human, and their relationships with each other. Father, Son, Holy Spirit, faithful believers and the rest of the world are the main cast of characters that make up the rich set of writings considered in this exhaustive analysis.
