Inscrita en el marco de la historia social de la literatura, esta investigación contextualiza la obra literaria del escritor bogotano Jorge Zalamea en su trayectoria vital (1905-1969). Parte de la premisa de que texto y autor constituyen una unidad inseparable, por lo que el ciclo vital del literato puede aportar a la comprensión de su producción intelectual. Puntualiza las posturas del personaje estudiado frente a tópicos como la función social del escritor y la profesionalización del oficio, su lugar dentro de un tejido de relaciones y contextos, sus vinculaciones con instituciones sociales y literarias, su percepción sobre la responsabilidad intelectual, y su integración a círculos de pensamiento y poder influyentes sobre la configuración de la sociedad de su tiempo. Relaciona entonces –desde una perspectiva sociológica– la situación de un escritor específico con estructuras, clases o grupos sociales, en aras de la formulación de explicaciones y análisis.

Haga el cálculo: El cambio climático provoca ya 400.000 muertes cada año, pero la actual economía intensiva en carbono está relacionada con 4.5 millones de muertes anuales en todo el mundo. Este libro es sobre el periodo 2020 y 2050. Calcule. Hoy se ha reducido la producción global en un 1.6% del PIB mundial. Algo así como 1.2 billones de dólares. Pero está previsto que las pérdidas aumenten: 6 millones de muertes y una reducción global neta media del PIB del 3,2% antes de 2030. Ahora bien, si usted decide no leer este libro, de todas maneras esto ocurrirá, pero usted no se dará cuenta. Es mejor que lo sepa. Si el nivel de las actuales emisiones de carbono se mantiene (escenario RCP8.5, IPCC) el promedio de las pérdidas globales puede superar el 10% del PIB global antes de final de siglo. Y la vida humana enfrentará riesgos mayores. ¿Qué indica todo esto? Que si no reaccionamos entre 2020 y 2050 ya no podremos hacerlo entre 2050 y 2100. Si la economía global entra en una crisis de este tamaño no será posible atender los daños causados. Mucho menos la adaptación. Los gobiernos centrales han enfrentado el problema pero no han podido detenerlo. Los ciudadanos deben incluirse en las decisiones que afectan sus destinos comunes. ¿Cómo? Enterándose de la crisis, participando con los gobiernos locales en las transiciones, con empresarios, medios de comunicación, colectivos sectoriales y académicos; educando a las generaciones que actuarán en el periodo más agudo de la crisis: 2020-2050.
